Best review on this IEM and there are many reviews out there.
Very kind thank you. 😊
Thank you for a truly objective review of this set. So much hype. Good to know about the analog vs dsp performance. You probably saved a bunch of people (like me) who don’t use dsp, a bunch of money. If I were shopping in that range, I feel like there are better options at the moment. Performer 8, Hype 4, and maybe even the Freya 2.0 for $100 less. Great review again!!!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching. I really think you can skip. Freya 2? I’ll have to check it out!
Did you get a hype 4? I just got mine last weekend, and it’s really good. I think doscinco is a better value, but the hype 4 gives you that extra 10%-15% with a similar tuning.
@@Hijynx87 nope. I thought I did… there is a funny story and a cautionary tale that I will share in n my next video. It will explain why I didn’t “get them” or anything else I ordered…
Been testing the Moondrop FreeDSP cable tuning on some IEMs and I think the Dioko was one of the IEMs that surprised me the most. That planar driver can really thump if you tune it right.
Although took nearly 4 hours with noise, limitation, and artifacting issues.
Anyways, seems like a good idea to hold on the dusk for now. Great review!
Thanks for watching. I am glad to hear people are liking the Dioko!
Agreed. I have a dioko too and once u get used to it it's a really good set.
A real good review. Personally I have done most of my iem purchases for the year already. If something crazy good comes out, I will maybe consider it during 11.11 but it wouldn't be anything from what's in the market currently.
Yeah the iem game is so crazy, never know what's going to happen. Always good to wait.
Honestly, even if i dont agree with the final verdict, you did a really great job with the review. Personally, I kind of have the opposite view where i think Dusk is best value in terms of tuning (DSP is better but it is also a bit of a gimmick, I think analogue still stands on its own pretty well) and details for the price while hype 4 is overpriced for what it offers. My preference lay more on the neutral side so Dusk comes off as just right while Hype 4 is just dark and bloated to me. Even so, really good review and always nice to have more unbiased opinions out there :)
That’s fine. It’s a subjective hobby. Thanks for the kind words. I was somewhat harsh but I wanted Singolo tuning with better tech and I didn’t get it.
I tried it equalized both with its DSP cable and with the QUDELIX T71, and, personally, I prefer it without EQ.
Fair. Some like the stock tuning. I just find it a worse pula pa02 at 360. Just not competitive.
So getting hype 4 was a better choice? Im loving it.
I think so. Especially if you need flexibility in your life. For analog people dusk is very shippable!
@@Jaytiss I mainly listen to rock and metal, so the hype 4 has been absolutely great. Doscinco a close 2nd. I probably don’t need both haha.
@@Hijynx87 Everywhere I look, people praising Hype4, summer sales can't start soon enough :D
@@Jaawaudio it’s great! I also just got the Sliivo sl41 today and that thing is wild for the $160 I paid. The detail retrieval seems close to performer 8, but it’s fun and musical.
@@Hijynx87 what genres are doscinco better for?
That's what I'm saying. They should revise the product to make the DSP tuning as default regardless of analog or DSP connection. I'm hesitant to buy the product knowing I'm bound to the DSP cable. I say keep the DSP tuning inside the IEM and freedom to change the cable.
If they can do a dsp iem that can plug into normal amps…. That’d be winning.
I went to Crinicale hang out in singapore , try it out but I didnt find the sound signature anything worth the price tag...I tried many other iem and the one that really stand out was the variations, any feed back comparing them?
I like variations more. I think it’s more fun. I think dusk is just a little boring.
I'm absolutely loving these, but I can't recommend them without using the DSP cable or the same EQ by some other way. Imo way better than B2 Dusk and even if you EQ that to the same FR these have really nice deep bass and cleaner highs. I EQ always so the limitations are irrelevant to me and I've bever heard this kind of clarity and naturality in an IEM.
It’s a solid product.
which is the direct upgrade of the EPZ Q1 pro you think below 400 USD? natural, wide soundstage with good vocals and instrument timbre/placing, also resolute/dynamic iems, which do you recommend? Big bass isn't that important, just good quality low end.
I like p8 a lot. Also dusk analog might fit the bill.
@@Jaytiss does the new Dusk justifies its price in analog version? I was also considering the Sliivo sl41 which is significant cheaper at 180 usd.. I want best price performance.
I haven’t heard that iem. But I think the pula pa02 is a solid pick.
I have an Android Phone and a laptop with type c connector. This is gonna be a huge win
It’s a great device for that use!
@@Jaytiss Well, I already have Seeaudio Yume Ultra and I guess I will skip these.
I really don’t know .. I have both (android and iPhone) and I use the FiiO btr15 .. and my usually go to is the FiiO ..
I don’t know if I bought the dusk I will use on my android device .. mix feelings with this one ..
It is a fun experience if you like it wired only from android.
Nice review again Jay.
You have to remember though with these compressions, whilst you prefer more vocal energy at 3khz, some people like myself can find it shouty.
I had the variations previously and whilst I liked them they made me wince if the volume was fairly loud on certain music because of it. Its probably one of the reasons (amongst others) why I prefer the Mega5EST over the Variations. Its also one of the reasons the analogue tuning of the Dusk appeals to me (as its not too far removed from the Mega5EST or Mirai which I have and love).
I haven't received my Dusk yet, so I won't be here defending it until I've heard it myself. I'm not surprised that you found it boring though, I do seem to have a preference to tunings that quite a few people would say is a little dull!
I definitely wouldn't recommend people by the Dusk though if they're solely relying on the DSP tunings in order for it to sound how they want - UNLESS you're an Android user and primarily listen to audio from your phone. In that case it seems like a great choise.
One thing this iem isn’t is shouty. It’s very tame in the stock formation.
How does the dusk DSP compare with the hype 4, mega 5 est and canon ii?
Thank you for the review.
Depends if dsp it is amazing. Without it I like the hype 4 a little more.
@@Jaytiss how does the em10 and mega 5 est compare to these two. With dusk DSP and dusk analogue
Have you tried peq cause it changes the iem not the DSP for using it with the 3,5?
I have. I typically use sone eq, to make sure I understand the iem better. But it is a pain when changing sources.
@@Jaytiss I meant more the peq in the moondrop App which changes the iem itself.
Solid video. Did you encounter any of the strange artifacts or noise other people encountered using the DSP cable?
None. It sounded nice and fine from my android phone and my pc. It sounded fine.
First time IEM buyer here, having watched every review there is on this IEM.. do I cancel pre-order? Overpriced?
exclusively Android user so would be using the dsp. I'm looking at the chopin, nova and perhaps Hype 4 then...
If you just use it on android and a pc, I think it’s a very nice product, for traditional audiophiles they might be better off with something else.
@@Jaytiss That's the thing, does someone in my position want to become a traditional audiophile, I have no amp since I have a Phillips Fidelio X2 headphone, there's no need for one there. Albeit, If there's better options out there for the price then I'm all in on the IEM front.
As a newcomer, the end result Is most important to me, I don't care for the majesty of clockwork, I don't care how the sound is achieved.
This Dusk w/ DSP EQ vs any other best configuration of any IEM, amp, EQ'd, whatever, is what I'm trying to compare in the prevention of buyers remorse and sadly reviewers don't do this at all extensively in an extremely subjective field.
Are IEMS above a certain price point simply pointless if you intend to EQ anyway, as I certainly don't care if they reach the end result traditionally.. or if they're juicing for that Big-O.
That’s a good question. I think the goal is to start out with something simple that you can return easily if you don’t like it. I’m working on the Tangzu nv and it’s pretty solid. I think m the goal is to not eq, it makes the item more flexible.
@@Jaytiss Hmm well perhaps I'll order all of them from amazon in the end, trial and return is the only way.
(Y)
@@Jaytiss I am in this same boat, mine comes in June 5th, I do already have the blessing 3s. Should I cancel?
Thanks for the honest review, this is a skip set for me. Please compare with Davinci when it release
Will do!
Crin in one of his tweets said applying this EQ to analog makes it sound like DSP. Did you try it?
1400Hz, -3.0dB, 0.8Q
5400Hz, -3.0dB, 2.0Q
14000Hz, -5.0dB, 2.0Q
Yes, I messed around with a few EQ profiles. This does sound good, but the issue is that I don't want to EQ an expensive iem. IEM should have perfect tuning or darn near it especially at this price.
@@Jaytissthere's no perfect tuning for everyone tho, some prefer bass and some prefer treble
This is a spot-on review! I think the Q5K beats Moondrop's DSP implementation and it's not long until we see WORKING DSP cables. Dusk's DSP is just a marketing ploy to up the price. I would probably buy a Dusk with a better analog cable, no DSP and $100 less. How would you compare the Dusk with the Nova? Thanks, man!
I think the Nova has a nice warmth in the bass, which is massively satisifing and great upper mids as well. I think it's the better value with a quideliz 5k. I mean that's what 250 (sale truthear nova and Quidelix) vs 360 for the dusk.
Thanks. I already have the Q5K and the Nova is on the way :)
Do you still happen to have your Truthear Nova review unit ?
If you do i wonder how that stacks up with eq to the Dusk
Preamp: -8.0 dB
Filter 1: ON LSC Fc 300 Hz Gain 1.5 dB Q 0.500
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 400 Hz Gain 1.0 dB Q 1.000
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 3200 Hz Gain -2.0 dB Q 1.700
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 8800 Hz Gain -2.0 dB Q 2.000
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 14000 Hz Gain 8.0 dB Q 1.400
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 15000 Hz Gain -7.0 dB Q 4.000
Here is an eq done to mimic the Analog version of the dusk but slightly more bass and lower midrange
Review unit? You mean fan unit. Yes, it's here. And it stacks up pretty well. Like 99% of the way there. Dusk dsp is pretty decent, but not worth 360 maybe 150 or 200 tops.
@@Jaytiss I see ty for the reply and for tryin out the eq , just saved me 360$ !
LOL 1 sec review of the Waifu. It's too bad the analog cable quality was subpar. I totally thought the default signature for DSP and Analog would be identical, but DSP has the option to tweak the frequency.
Thanks for the review.
It was 1 second too long!
@@Jaytiss
Treble extension is a great reason to upgrade from the dusk 2 for analog no eq users. Too many reviews state the opposite (better midrange, higher resolution, more detailed, etc for the X Crinacle dusk over the dusk 2. And that's just the analog. But I agree. DO NOT upgrade to this from the dusk 2 if you are going to ONLY use analog with no eqing. Much better ALTERNATIVES out there instead for cheaper. The hype 4 stomps the X Crinacle dusk (analog mode)
The dsp gives the iem its worth. Just buy a cheap android phone if you have iphone. I see stupid decisions like buying $1000 android daps when android phones are superior (even sound wise in the galaxy s series). My $1000 dap is collecting dust. My galaxy s23 not only sounds better (usb c line out with phenomenal dac dongle) but it is much smoother, faster, has system wide eq, etc
In summary, I AGREE WITH YOU 100%
DO NOT buy this if you only plan to use analog with no eq
100%. Hype 4 is a great set.
what dongle do you use??
I using 870 snapdragon and adapter type c to 3.5 and very happy with the sound. Heard that samsung phones don't have direct audio.
@@viktor1845
Hidizs s9 pro plus (martha). Sounds 98% as good as my mojo 2. And yes Samsung has usb direct output (they don’t have a headphone jack)
@@h1a8 I love the mojo2 very much! If this is true its superb!
What iem do you have?
@@viktor1845 mest mk2, Quintet, Chopin, Hype 4, ie600, and a bunch of others ($100-$200 range)
Thank you for the review. The dusk looks like a downgrade to the variations, will be skipping this one out.
I feel it is for a certain audience.
Nice review but these are a pass for me. Not a DSP fan. Thanks!
That’s my take as well. Nice set. But has a unique place in the market.
They respond well to eq. Crinacle released the eq settings to make it sound like the dsp settings.
So if you eq your iems then these are NOT A PASS.
But if you don't eq your iems then these are a pass.
Dsp has nothing to do with anything here
You mean you don't like this silly DSP cable, or you don't like DSP in general?
I'll tell you now that the DSP on the Mojo 2 is something that really gets you more out of every IEM & (easier to power headphone) that you own. As far as I'm concerned, any set should be 95% perfect tuning (based on what music you're buying them for). If you're having to do a significant amount of EQ-ing, you're using the wrong set.
If you use the DSP on the Mojo 2 and you want a little less upper treble or a to kick the sub bass up a couple of notches... bam... and unlike PEQ tuning, which is quite susceptible to compromise in sound - that is not the case at all here. There is absolutely no compromise. It's one of the best features that exists on what I believe is the single best device in personal audio.
Don't dismiss DSP until you've tried it.
not sure how accurate this is, but chatgpt says
Equalizer (EQ):
- An EQ allows you to access tonal adjustments that are not catered for by the standard frequency controls (i.e., bass, midrange, and treble).
- It can reduce or amplify different sound frequencies to your liking.
- EQs help restore sound frequencies that get disrupted by noise or internal car acoustics.
- They are generally more affordable and easier to install and tune than DSPs.
- However, with equalizers, you can't change output for individual channels-it adjusts the whole system collectively.
Digital Sound Processor (DSP):
- A DSP takes digital signals and alters them through a series of algorithms, usually within milliseconds.
- It works by manipulating incoming digital audio signals with specialized algorithms before passing them on to the next part of an audio signal chain.
- Features like bass boost, active noise cancellation, adaptive equalization, and voice typing are all the results of digital signal processing.
- DSPs offer more precise control over sound characteristics and are better at correcting for room acoustics.
- However, DSPs are usually more complex and expensive than EQs.
I mean it adjusts frequency response. It can fix a bad transducer but can also make it worse…. So much worse. Interesting…
DSP and parametric EQ are the same thing. What chat GP is comparing is DPS too is the old fashion standard 5 band EQ that came on old hifi systems, you also find it in apps like the Sony wireless headphones have. Most people use parametric EQ these days which is exactly what DSP uses. In fact the parametric EQ in the dusk DSP is more basic and less advanced than a full parametric EQ that you find In Something like usb audio player pro or hiby player
I am not a fan of this DSP hype. It could lead to lazy manufacturers not tuning things to an optimal level and slapping a DSP cable in the mix and call it a day. This would be problematic for Analog users.
The Moondrop App is also basically Spyware. In addition, contrary to what others have said, that cable does not work on all DAPs. Even with UAPP, it wouldn't work on a few of mine.
The analog portion of this IEM not sounding as good as the DSP is also a bummer because I never use my phone to listen to music, like ever. I also have a bunch of really nice gear that I already own that won't make these sound as good as the DSP version...so what's the point?
Seems to me that this DSP hype is extremely overstated and could potentially be very problematic to the hobby.
Most people are overstating the changes made under the DSP cable. A lot of purists with large sums invested into the hobby are mad about this making those purchases obsolete. Resolve wrote on Reddit about how it really isn’t much different and how it’s great with its analogue performance. Reviewers are focusing too much on not liking DSP cables, the app, etc.
I think the only audience is is for is those too lazy to eq. It's not a bad product, but not a traditionally good one either. If they could do dps in a cable with a traditional connector.... that'd be different.
@@Jaytiss I could not be bothered to EQ and I don't mind a DSP cable when I'm on the go. I also use an iPhone. So Dusk's DSP adds no value to me, unfortunately.
@@Jaytiss then that is dac (on your device) followed by adc (on the cable) and again followed by dac (on the cable). rather stupid and will generate noise and distortion that gets amplified at each step.
If it says crincile, all that means is there is no bass.
Singolo isn’t that bad but the is so bad.
