I really believe the father's resolve to Kobe's "No" was top tier guidance in temperance. No violent outbursts in his being openly rebellious or physical thrashing resulting in psychological scarring. He just let him know.. you don't get what you want until I get what I want. This isn't a rushed discipline but one that teaches and exemplifies trust in the form of guidance.

@PinkHypatia It's done with tears of retrospection. I endured years of physical abuse based on my asking "why" or even when I was able to support it with *substantive reasoning. ["I better not catch you lying to me again"]
RE: "But you tell me to lie on the phone all the time to those company people." *I didn't know who they were. It was just that if I dared and challenged an order, it would be met with a painful and swift reprimand. The lessons didn't match with the adult examples from time to time, but at least I'm not embittered. I had decent parents. They just didn't believe "subordinates" could challenge "leadership." So, this manner of teaching really resonated with me. Thanks for your evaluation. It was appreciated more than you know.
