The problem with this is that Steve didn't throw away his faith - he kept it, and that's how he made it through - he *does* care if "heaven will take [him] back", which is what guides his spirit and gives him his moral code that everyone trusts him for. The reason why he's the leader of the Avengers is because he can keep them in line, and they listen because they know that his moral code reflects the truth.

I agree, it'd work better if Bucky was the "Angel with a shotgun", but that'd be more WW2 Bucky, cause I'm slightly unclear of Bucky's relation with/how he feels about Steve at the moment xD
