HHT,3/11 ACR, 72(E3) to 74 (SP5) 3HQ6d, 74-75 (SGT) K troop, TC K13, Shift NCO @ OPs Oscar, India, and Romeo, Patrol leader qualified on North Patrol and South Patrol. Aerial observer qualified on 3/11 sector from the British sector in the North to the 1/11 sector in the south. ALLONS! I loved the Kaserne and the people of Bad Hersfeld. A fantastic training ground for a career soldier, many of the squadron/post commanders went on to flag officer ranks, among them, Lt General Donald S Pihl

    From: Dr. Helmut Neumann
    September 22, 2016
    To: G.Deitz
Thank you so much for the great job you do in connection with Bad Hersfeld, the US and divided Germany in the times of the Cold War.
To you and all the helpful Veterans of the US Armed Forces serving in and for Europe and NATO my sincere and heartfelt thanks.
And finally after 40 years of that great partnership and commitment the Wall and the Iron Curtain came down and Germany was within one year peacefully reunited. As you put it : United we stood !
Our National Day - Der Tag Der Deutschen Einheit is near on the 3rd of October 2016.
It is hard to believe that we celebrate already the 26th anniversary of that special day - for me the greatest day of all my life.
Let me end with the motto of the Bad Hersfeld BGS-Abteilung "Freiheit verpflichtet !" ....

First Female ever assigned to the 3/11th ACR Bad Hersfeld. West Germany 1974. I was a Redeye Team Leader HHT 3/11th ACR Sept. 1972 to March 1975. A husband and Wife joined the U.S. Army on the buddy program. The husband was stationed 3/11th ACR as a clerk or a cook, his Wife came to the unit as a Clerk. The 3/11th ACR was a full combat status unit at that time, we had the Oct. 1973 War that the unit was still on a Defcon Alert from per S3. So in 1974 when the husbands wife showed up about a few weeks to a month after he did, well it was a major shock to US Army command structure that a female, via an error or errors of shocking proportions, found this young female private, duffle bag in hand showed up to report for duty. The Army and the U.S. Cavalry Sh*t a big Brick when the error hit the fan so to speak. She and Husband were locked up some place out of reach of everyone and out of the unit within 72 hours. This fast departure from our unit only occurred two or three times and those we guys who were captured on the Border by the USSR troop's sorry Soldier's, they were our Cav. Troopers who got caught. My name is Tom Martin A.sgt. (sp4). (Thank you Nixon for the promotion freeze rank no pay)
