    I've just bought my second BMPCC4K to use on a gimbal and for general run and gun style use. My setup is somewhat similar to yours in that I use a SmallRig cage to which I've added a Samsung SSD and SmallRig holder, an Andoer battery holder a bit like yours but it not only comes with the standard Weipu plug installed, it also has a 7.4V output for my monitor, plus a Rode VideoMic NGT. The lens I use is an old Olympus 12-60mm f2.8-4 that has manual focus and allows me to use the gimbal follow focus motor.
    For attaching to my gimbal (a FeiyuTech AK2000) I just remove the monitor and screw the unit into place. It took all of about a minute to balance the unit, but contrary to every video that I've seen, I flip the gimbal arm around so that the two tilt arms are on the left of the gimbal handle and the camera ports are on that side of the gimbal when the unit is attached. The unit fits perfectly and doesn't require counter-weights or anything else to balance. I've mentioned this mounting method a few times around the traps, but no one seems interested.

      Here's the adapter I use, but because of the world situation at the moment, they are listing as unavailable.:SmallRig DV Battery Plate Adapter: amzn.to/2TfiGxq
      But, I have it on a reliable source that this one will also work well: amzn.to/2WnpcVu
      The batteries are standard NP-F style. I've been using these particular ones in the field a lot and they are holding up well:amzn.to/3cqXJbf

    If you put the camera alone (no cage) barebones with a light native lens, would you still need any additional plates or weights? Or can you balance it properly with the camera barebones without modding the gimbal?

    • @mingeffect
      @mingeffect  Před 4 lety

      Barebones with a light lens requires no extra weights. Thank you for your question

  • @avance24
    @avance24 Před 3 lety

    Don't you get some flare with the ND so far from the lens? I did when using so many adapter rings and went over to adapters with a bigger jump (ex. 52-->77mm)

    • @mingeffect
      @mingeffect  Před 3 lety +1

      I do not get flares unless I'm shooting in the sun. Detail will be washed out as you approach the sun, as with most any lens, but that's why I use the matte box in those cases. I use this matte box, which is under $20 Neewer Plastic Matte Box: amzn.to/2Vt2HNm

  • @ChadVerified

    Do you think it would be possible to balance with the sigma 18-35mm with the small rig cage and follow focus?

    • @mingeffect
      @mingeffect  Před 3 lety

      As long as you don't top out over 7lbs, you should be fine. The sigma is a bit longer lens, so you would probably have to use counterweights, which add to the overall weight. Otherwise, the Moza Air 2 can take 9lbs and you should do well with it.

  • @TaedeMathis
    @TaedeMathis Před 4 lety

    Do you use auto focus with this lens and setup? If you do what percentage of your footage can be use?

    • @mingeffect
      @mingeffect  Před 4 lety

      The BMPCC4K is a cinema camera. There is no autofocus option (at least not yet). You can double-tap the screen to point focus or press the dedicated focus button to point focus, but the camera doesn't do a continuous auto-focus. Thank you for your question.

    hı dear friend.Thx for video.I also have bmpcc 4k and lumix 25 mm.But what is the set in front of the lens? Filters ?

    • @mingeffect
      @mingeffect  Před 3 lety

      In front of that lens is my SLR Magic MK II Variable ND Filter. That allows for easy adjustment of light coming into the lens, especially important in bright conditions.

    A few questions . . . What is the power supply cradle and base you use and how is it attached? I notice you don't use the follow focus, by choice? Will it work with a SmallRig Half Cage?

    • @mingeffect
      @mingeffect  Před 4 lety

      Smallrig battery adapter - tinyurl.com/wtlhbyv
      Correct, not using the follow focus was by choice. I have one. I use it. In some of my filming I'm rushing to shoot quickly and don't have the time for the setup. Also, some of the fly-by-wire lenses make using the follow focus a less than ideal choice, as their aren't accurate and dependable stops on either end of the rotation range to rack focus reliably.
      I'm assuming you're referring to the power adapter working with the half cage? If so, there are plenty of holes for placement on the side and top. There shouldn't be a problem. Thank you for your questions.

      Well done! Thanks! What cable did you use to connect the small rig adapter to the camera’s DC input? Would appreciate a link to purchase. I use the adopter on the original BMPCC, now I’m thinking of getting the “Blind spot gear power junkie” for my pocket 4K, hoping that the cable you use will work.
