150 people might not be alive today if it weren't for Capt. Sullenberger and the crew of U.S. Airways Flight 1549. 60 Minutes invited some of the passengers to reunite with them in, of all places, Charlotte N.C.
What an incredible and a humble individual Captain Sullenburger is. I love the fact that he looked at this event as doing his job. Much respect and love from Canada.
I saw the movie yesterday. One thing (of many) that impressed me was how quickly responders showed up, Coast Guard, NYPD in helicopters, Red Cross with blankets. Then when he was told he was the only one who could have saved them, he immediately disagreed, saying the flight crew and rescuers were necessary, and the lives wouldn't have been saved without them.
Proof that real heroes dont throw a ball or hit at one or play an instrument or vocalize or star in movies. A true hero like Capt. Sully, is one who makes critical decisions to save the lives of many and then carries those decisions out to perfection when the odds do not look favorable. Although he may not like the label "Hero", he is definitely the epitome of a real one. Bless you Sir and your courageous crew.
I was a cop for 23 years, and I dealt with some of the strongest, most courageous. and selfless people on earth. I went through hell, arm and arm with them, but it does not compare to the strength and courage displayed during this terrifying, life altering nightmare. I consider myself a pretty good person, but I couldn't hold a candle to the crew and passengers of Cactus 1549 on that freezing cold horrific day. I choke back tears, every time I watch these videos. on a lighter note, did anyone tell Sully that he was not ALLOWED TO PARK THERE LOL!!! And don't even try to convince me that this was a plane CRASH, IT WAS A PICTURE PERFECT LANDING!!!! just so happened that it was a very WET RUNWAY LOL!!Sully=155 Satan=0!!!! GREAT job done by EVERYONE.
renegade1644 Being a police officer is dangerous heroic work. People don't call the police b/c they are having a great day they call b/c they are in some sort of danger and you guys are the first ones in time and time again. That's brave af. Thank you for your service.
Bubba John Honestly, I think this applies to all first responders. These jobs are all physically, mentally and emotionally intense, so thank you too John!
Here in Australia we have a term " Cops Are Tops " that I believe in 100% my Stepson is a Cop and I know what he has seen and had to witness, so 1644 You light your own candle in fact 2 and I will feel it.
Years later: forever respected!!! This man is outwardly the most calm and collected person, the only kind you would want in this type of an emergency. For this incredibly skilled person and absolute hero to have any kind of doubt or any kind of guilt for not doing something better is breaking my heart. He did everything any person would want him to do: stay calm, laser-focused, collected and get the job done to land that sucker and not have any casualties. His mind should forever be at peace with this heroic action. I am glad that he understand why people are calling him a hero. The fact that he is humble about that well-deserved title, makes him even more deserving of it. Captain: I salute you.
Such a down to earth person (no pun intended). They were so lucky to have him as a captain. And not only him but the whole crew (cabin crew included) and also the ATC who reacted so professionally and saved so many lives. This could have easily have turned out much worse. In fact it still is mind-boggling to me that nobody died in this tragedy.
I can't say I've ever seen a more humble man than this pilot. He is a true hero and he shares it with all the other people involved in this horrific tale that ended so we'll. Good job Sully.
I have never been prouder than anyone in my life than I was...am... and always will be... of Captain Sullenberger!! No one else comes close! And I wasn't on the plane! This Blessed and Exceptional...Outstanding MAN! Full of Pure Love!
If this doesn't swell you up with emotions, nothing will. America NEEDS events like this, to make us realize life is worth living, and people can be good.
Amazing last few words "people want to feel hopeful again...and if I can help in that way I will". This in a matter of fact way from a man who already did so much. It's amazing. Of course a lot of it comes from the man he is, but maybe some too from the sense that when he landed the plane he started something that has a lot of momentum and that it's less stress for him to go with it than it would be to say back stage "listen guys, let us off the hook on this one". A really brave and committed man.
I think Sully is a double hero. Not only did he land the plane and make sure everyone was safe, he continued to allow people to use him as a figurehead for the good feelings the USA needed. It's the way he says after all he's done "And if I can help in that way I will". Blimey. Not just brave but strong in his mind and in his emotions, and in control.
Seems no matter where I go, the people there have no fucking clue what they are doing. Be it Walmart, or the doctor's office, or a furniture store, it just seem all of America is phoning that shit in. Just clueless and apathetic and horrible at their work. And in a world like that, it is SO refreshing to see a guy like Sully who just absolutely fucking crushes it at what he does. God damn I wish we had more people like that. The dude is Jimi Hendrix but with an airplane instead of a guitar. And without the LSD. No afro. Forget the Jimi thing, this guy kicks ass. That's all I'm saying.
I always watch this video from time to time. It's just so cool. This guy is a real life hero. Not some bs from a comic book. He really saved so many lives. So many families affected by what he and his crew did.
A lot of respect for his excellency Capt. Sully and his team. He deserve respect. He's the hero of civil aviation. And people will remember his contribution till the last day of doomsday. Every pilot of the world should be like Capt. Sully. He's not only the hero of United States but the hero of every human around the globe who loves humanity. A lot of respect for Capt and his team and every one on board that flight Huge respect from his fan from Pakistan
I must have watched this a dozen times. And I still tear up. Now that I can stand a bit farther back, I realise how wonderfully this film was put together. Those 60 minutes people were on top of their exceptional game!
After being in the military and serving on a flight crew for 4 years of my service, what he says at 4:36 is a common fear that all the pilots i have flown with have. "Did I do everything?" I cannot imagine that feeling all the time... he is an incredible guy...
Just saw the movie, "Sully" last night; it was awesome! All involved that day demonstrated great humility, skill and courage. Their feat that day was a gift and inspiration for all the rest of us.
I remember watching it all on TV and it was a shock, I was waiting for the plane to come apart in the Hudson river. And he landed it so great like on a runway. The man is a hero still to this day and if I ever fly any place ever I want him as the pilot.
Thank you US Airways for this beautiful gathering to celebrate life. The moment @ 1:21 on this reunion video is absolutely precious. A three year old boy of a passenger says thank you. These are the moments in aviation that we all are proud of and we all will remember. Air travel today is difficult for everyone, including airline employees, passengers & everyone in the professional aviation support industry. I am so thankful for this celebration, for Sully, Jeff, and the excellent crew. " J "
Sully seems like a very humble man. But, I would hope he let his chest puff up a little bit when meeting the passengers and their families. He deserves that. As Hemingway said, "Courage is grace under pressure".
When I was at my last job, I kinda wished Capt Sullenberger had come in, so I could have bought his meal for him. I would have gladly done so. The right place at the right time.
He is just really humble, this is the second video of him I am watching right now after I watched the movie Sully last night. It just made me cry again, just like the movie and his other interviews 😭😭. May God bless this man and his family. Life is beautiful if you know where to look at❤️.Be human people
I cried watching this video. I watched from Brasil the amazing landing in the Hudson River. Sorry Captain if my english is not good. But my feelings, are true, to my dear hero, Captain Sullenberger.
Sully - A great example of a human being that others can learn from... Do the best you can do and remember it is always good enough. He was good enough and struggles to be at peace with it.
Who is cutting all those onions in my eyes?!? It takes such an awesome human being to accomplish such an act of courage and executing his job so professionnally and still being this humble about what he was able to accomplish at that very critical moment! Such an humble man with the purest soul ever! A true legend and a role model for everyone! Much love from Canada!
hmm, a simply phenomenal piece of professional work on the day under the highest possible pressure. Personally, what impresses me the most is the way this gentleman has dealt with the emotional aftermath which he and his crew were not trained for. What a wonderful group of human beings, all 155 of them. Great respect. Sully, you sir, are inspirational on many levels.
The last comment by Sully was so poignant. What I took from that was him implying that the training those pilots went through was so intense that any other captain of a jet would have done the same thing in that situation. I was on a submarine in the '80s and we knew we had a trained crew that everybody knew their jobs and those of others. When I hit the rack, I slept well knowing that those on-watch would do their duty. Sully was one of those guys who the passengers knew he would do what he could to save them. Bravo Zulu!
I watched Sully for the second time tonight and I loved it. I have to work.tomorrow otherwise I'd watch it again lol. I had to look up this great story to get more information and I think Sully is a true hero. I loved superheroes as a kid and so when there is a true life hero it really makes me feel that there is hope in the world. Captain sully did an amazing job and.i love how he was modest and gave credit that was due to the first responders. Very touching and amazing story. I remember watching the news when this happened but now seeing the movie makes it so amazing. Thank you captain sully.
Captain Sully, I have heard the following many times - Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. I wasn't involved in that flight in any way, but you proved that saying a hundredfold.
Everyone aboard that flight has the right to be thankful to God for allowing them to have a brave, smart and dedicated Pilot. I'm sure Captain Sullenbergers' faith in God will continue to guide him throughout any situation that may come in his life. God Bless you Captain and if I get nerve enough to ride an airplane, I would want to be on your flight!
Very emotional. I'm on the rum. Can't watch this right now. But I love him. He's a great pilot with quick thinking that save over a hundred lives. He's a beauty.
Definitely the right man for the job! What an awesome and humble gentleman. A salute to you and your crew Captain. Loved the film but found myself loving these real life interviews even more.
i remember watching this with my aunt when it was first on a couple years ago and trying for all i was worth to not choke up in front of her. but when i ran across it just now by myself i dont care, i was choked up from start to finish.
What a reunion and interview, very emotional, Thanks to Sully and All the Crew on a great job, given the right circumstance and doing the right thing with that circumstance made them all hero's. Job well done!
Level headed calmness, stored up wisdom, resourceful experience are a few of the ingredients of this humble hero. God Blessed Sully that day and others in so many ways.
Any other pilot would have tried to make it back to the airport and would of failed. Captain Sullenberger is an amazing pilot, to be able to think clearly in a situation like that (life or death )and land the plane perfectly on the water without it breaking apart is just miraculous. ...
Its called a miracle because the right person was in the right place at the right time.. thats extremely rare.
it was the miracle that caused the plane to fail too. What a stupid thing to say.
@@anonaconn Nope; geese.
hwoods01 and why were the geese there, a miracle?
God has a way of presenting extraordinary challenge with extraordinary people to beat it.
Some things are meant to happen, other things are not.
And because there were no waves on the river on the right time
The world is a hard place to live in. But, every once in a while, we're lucky enough to have somebody like Sully around.
His reaction to his wife reading that letter fromt heman talking about his 84 year old father had me in tears!! xx
Jennifer Meehan crybaby
Me too
He couldn’t have done anything better!
He did everything 100% correct,
SULLENBERGER...Love you and Thank you so much😍😍😍😍
What an incredible and a humble individual Captain Sullenburger is. I love the fact that he looked at this event as doing his job.
Much respect and love from Canada.
155 families saved by this hero.
God Bless him and bless all the survivors and families.
Captain Sullenberger did a great job.
I'm not crying, you're crying!
😭😭😭😭😭😭
😭😭😭 yeah

Then when he was told he was the only one who could have saved them, he immediately disagreed, saying the flight crew and rescuers were necessary, and the lives wouldn't have been saved without them.
Remember those same boat crews evacuated more people from Manhatten then at Dunkirk in about 90 minutes on 9/11
This guy is so humble, collected, intelligent, professional. The world needs more men like him.. And he IS the definition of a REAL man.
I am a retired Amtrak engineer, not comparing that to an airline pilot, but what he did, saving all 155 passengers was heroic! Thank you, Sully❤
Proof that real heroes dont throw a ball or hit at one or play an instrument or vocalize or star in movies. A true hero like Capt. me too, the better side of the world
All of us I think
Your entire demeanour as well as your calm presence of mind saved 155 lives. Salute to you Captain. May your tribe increase.
Whenever I fly again I want this man as my pilot!!
+Gracie newsome Well, he has since retired.
Sully's co-pilot, Jeff Skiles, is still in active service though, so you could get him!
Gracie newsome me too me too
I can't say I've ever seen a more humble man than this pilot. He is a true hero and he shares it with all the other people involved in this horrific tale that ended so we'll. Good job Sully.
He and co pilot have done everthing right in most fatal circumstances. That is a miracle.
He should be proud of himself always!
I still hits me hard that the entire flight was saved. Thank you Capt., First Officer. You have earned your retirement. Thank you.
He is such a humble well spoken individual. True hero even though he would never call himself one.
I have never been prouder than anyone in my life than I was...am... and always will be... of Captain Sullenberger!! No one else comes close! And I wasn't on the plane! This Blessed and Exceptional...Outstanding MAN! Full of Pure Love!

Ok, this made me cry. He’s a hero. The entire crew is. Even the passengers are. They ALL survived it. ❤️🙌
When ever I fly I always tell the pilots thank you for getting me home safely I hope it means something to them God bless
This man and his crew are just wonderful human beings. Bless them all and FINALLY some good news in this weary world...
I always watch this video from time to time. It's just so cool. This guy is a real life hero. Not some bs from a comic book. He really saved so many lives. So many families affected by what he and his crew did.
It's not just what he did that day, it is also the remarkable modesty that is highly impressive.

this man is who you call a hero, very emotional reunion, it makes a change to see someone trying to save lives rather than killing them
Heroes like him belongs to the whole world. I’m crying watching this. Salute Captain

I still cry. I was 25 when this happened
4:19 that's the definition of PTSD, but he's coping up well
This Pilot and his crew deserve all the plaudits. Without his quick thinking so many lives would have been killed. A true hero.
A true hero and so humble! What an amazing man
He is a wonderful man. Someone to look up to and learn from. I like him very much.

Sully - A great example of a human being that others can learn from... Do the best you can do and remember it is always good enough. He was good enough and struggles to be at peace with it.
Isn’t he a lovely kind humble man. And of course a skilled pilot.
It's been 3 years since this accident happened, still fresh in the minds of many.
Wish all Americans was honest and truthful like this hero

He has the best answers. Wow.
Jesus this makes me tear up a little bit. I never saw this reunion until now. This is as real as it gets. Well done, Sully. A great American.
That flight crew of five are truly hero's....and Sully with those skills of landing that plane and keeping itintact what a heck of job they did
The last comment by Sully was so poignant. What I took from that was him implying that the training those pilots went through was so intense that any other captain of a jet would have done the same thing in that situation.

Bravo Zulu!
So calm and collected, I wish all airline pilots are like that. God bless you Sully..
I must say this man is extremely articulate ! I am so amazed and humbled by his ability to speak.
What a good human.. in the dictionary next to the word hero, should be his picture. Thanks and God bless you sir.
The story of one of the passengers losing his brother on 9/11 just makes this whole story more emotional
How can anyone in their right mind dislike this video showcasing one very brave and noble man.
Capt. Sullenberger and the crew of U.S. Airways Flight 1549
simply "HEROES"
I saw this on Tiktok, but this miracle and professional skills. Salute to the crew, staff and most especially to the pilot.
I watched Sully for the second time tonight and I loved it. I have to work.tomorrow otherwise I'd watch it again lol. Omg Sully! How could you have done anything different or better? You got everyone home safe to their families. How could that BE any better??
Humanity at its finest !! God bless !🙏❤️🙏
It is not only a matter of 155 passengers, Capt. Sullenberger inspired many people around the world, for me He is just like Steve Jobs.
How can someone be so damn perfect.....Hats off captain...:)
i remember watching this with my aunt when it was first on a couple years ago and trying for all i was worth to not choke up in front of her. but when i ran across it just now by myself i dont care, i was choked up from start to finish.

Would pay extra for him on all my flights haha
Flying Anxiety GONE
Sully, you're a true pilot and a true hero. You did good, always remember that. God bless you and your crew.
Very good movie and tom hanks really nailed the sully part. he never ceases to amaze me.
What a humble, brilliant, admirable man.
Superhero’s don’t always wear capes or masks sully your a hero 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
@3:20 seeing the Plane hitting the Water i still get goose bumbs...excellent Landing!
Sully: I'll be your captain on this flight.
Geese: *hold my feathers*
