For this particular performance, the following concise instructions were provided:
Encouraging a creative approach and musical decision-making that connects the auditory experience with the visual aspect, harmonizing pitches and durations for visual resonance. By merging scores and improvisation as a foundation, the intention was not to impose restrictions but rather to offer potential directions or focal points for exploration.
TEMPO is represented by a moving red line that clearly illustrates the entry and exit points of the specified section (Each symbol in the score was allowed to indicate a different time meter as it intersected with a red line). Across the entire score, INTENSITY is sought through the size and thickness of each symbol, emphasizing a strong sense of continuous forward motion. The selection of PITCH (register, timbre) was flexible, guided by a mindful consideration of the overall concept to ensure a close and cohesive conversation with fellow ensemble musicians. ARTICULATION acts as an invitation or suggestion for how to play a given part, indicating the desired direction. It doesn't need to adhere strictly to a predefined image, but it is desirable to capture the intended idea. The void between symbols holds significance, urging one to approach it with reverence by honoring its spaciousness and leaving ample room. DURATIONS of the symbols should be respected by the moving red line.
At the conclusion of this video performance, the original handwritten notation is presented to maintain the essence following the creation of the contemporary digitized scores.
