yeah thats because port of spain proper is not dangerous. its the outskirts of port of spain that are dangerous. areas like lavantlle,east dry river,john john and besson street. if you go those parts of port of spain you will see danger and if you are white you will stick out like a sore thumb and be a magnet for every criminal going from pimps to muggers.

I'm white af and I worked for a week in downtown Chaguanas with zero issues. Awesome people awesome food, shout out to the Hot Doubles vendor near Barataria.
Also they mentioned the KFC in Trinidad, the chicken tastes way better because they use locally farmed chicken and it is the bomb.

Marwa's guide should have told him that that area (Independence Square) is very busy and alive almost twenty-four hours a day, instead of saying it is the most dangerous area. It is not! It sounds like he's going by a lot of heresay. As usual when you travel, no matter where, you have to be aware of your surroundings. This area can be problematic like any other area in the country or in the world. When I am in Trinidad I go through this area on foot several times a week.

MARWA don't be fooled. I walked from the Diego Martin taxi stand to Sealots and went to the POS market. After I finished at the POS market I walked to the back of the market crossed the road and ended up by the Besson Street police station. Walked the road along the East Dry River up to Saint Francois Valley Road. No problems, no attack no, no crime, It is daylight. Nobody is going to do you anything. At nights it is well lit and people are out selling from the old church all the way down to the Promenade. If you are at upper Charlotte Street, they sell ice cream opposit the school at nights by the taxi stand. Make it up to the Savannah and you get people selling food there too. No crime. No danger. Just don't walk through the middle of the dark savannah because well...

I would travel by myself as a preteen
by day trinidad is pretty safe at night on the other hand you will have a problem. my advice would be go to tobago it is a lot safer there. then see if you can go on an arranged tour of trinidad from tobago organised by your hotel ie a group from your hotel on a day trip to trinidad it would be safer that way. it can be done a flight from tobago to trinidad is only 20 minutes in duration.
