    Hey, the reason we had two drop out was die to them mistakenly running in the network rid mode and as we don't pay for such, we hit the free limit and they quit broadcasting. The app used was OpenDrone ID, it is in the app store. The accuracy, well 🤣.

    I genuinely think what I took away from this video, and frankly ive known this all along deep down, but this video highlights a very important fact !! People dont know what remote id is, but when you tell them its just to track us drone operators so everybody knows who we are and where we are, then it sounds like a great idea to everybody !! However, if you explain to them in a more detailed manor about what implications this actually has and what an invasion of privacy it it, then it all of a sudden doesnt seem like a good idea... This is exactly how the Faa have cleverly implemented it and viewed it to the public, [without the details].. They just make it sound like mehh its good for you and everybody else..

    Such as "if your kids or family are out flying model planes, this will allow strangers to track them down to where they are standing and potentially confront them if they (the strangers) don't like the idea of models being flown there".
    My guess is you'd get different answers.

    The FAA doesn't have the authority to regulate hobby and toy airplanes. The FAA exists under the interstate commerce clause to regulate commercial aviation, not toys. Toy airplanes don't fly interstate! The Academy of Model Aeronautics, in coordination with the Hobby industry needs to hire constitutional attorney's to put an end to the nonsense. If states and cities want to make and enforce rules as to where you can fly these toys, then okay, likely some rules are needed. But those rules shouldn't apply everywhere.

    You should bring attention to the fact that remote id broadcasts the pilot location. Not there is an app the public can use to find them. We don't need to be letting that information out. The public does not need to know what app, where to find it or what. It's not there job. I don't want to get bothered by some random person while I'm out doing work.

  • @crystalclearwindowcleaning3458

    RID he's not going to do with the FAA says, hello surveillance of rogue drone pilots because it's not accurate enough nor does it broadcast very far away. So therefore the intent must be something else. The goal is to make it so that drone and RC fixed-wing pilot cannot legally fly. This will clear the air space for the big corporate commercial drone companies.

    • @coalfpv
      @coalfpv Před rokem

      Yesssss. So much this. The RID units they had were working perfectly well until they got about 2k ft out, and all of them failed for the same reason. If this were after Sept., ALL of those flights SHOULD be reported for having lost RID contact. Malicious compliance could flood the FAA with false positives, but even this test demonstrates as it stands right now: these units will never be able to track long-range pilots. This will ONLY track pilots flying NEAR enough for the BT signal to work. I'll bet Ken had full video from the Phantom the whole time. BT RID is a joke that could be simulated with a free phone app as follows: report pilot location and home point, start UAS location there, travel in random direction 2k ft and stop reporting. Done. Also, what happens if you want to fly a DJI Avata indoors after RID is required?

    • @xjet
      @xjet Před rokem +1

      @@coalfpv Regarding RID indoors... the FAA says that RID is not required for indoor flight -- but they also say that it must not be able to be disabled by the drone owner and it must be "tamper resistant". How's that going to work then? 🙂

    • @xjet
      @xjet Před rokem +1

      @@coalfpv On the drone's return, not all fo the RID modules were still producing a working signal and the RID rule says:
      The reported geometric position of the unmanned aircraft and the control station must be accurate to within 100 feet of the true position, with 95 percent probability.
      The reported geometric altitude of the control station must be accurate to within 15 feet of the true geometric altitude, with 95 percent probability
      The reported geometric altitude of the unmanned aircraft must be accurate to within 150 feet of the true geometric altitude, with 95 percent probability
      Clearly, on the way out, several of the modules failed to report accurate positions for the drone -- they appeared to be hundreds of feet behind the actual position of the drone (as reported by the drone's telemetry and a couple of the modules that were working in compliance with the rule). Also, on the return of the drone to the tent, several of the modules were reporting *nothing*.
      Self-compliance is what got the Boeing 737 Max8 into trouble... now it looks as if RID will also fall victim to this. However, there is no alternative -- if we're to have that promised $50 RID module that the FAA speaks of. It's almost as if the FAA *wants* RID to fail isn't it?????

    I’m still trying to understand how this is suppose to work and the requirements. It was my understanding that any RC aircraft weighing under 0.55 lbs. did not require RID. Is this correct? I mostly fly small cheap “foamy flyers” and they are all under that weight. I also pretty much don’t even fly above tree-top level. A few years ago when the FAA started with some of these shenanigans I was told I had to notify all airports that I was flying my airplanes if I was within their airspace. When I told them what I was flying, (small 12” or less foam RC airplanes), at treetop level they said that was idiotic that I was contacting them. They said any real airplane flying low enough to where my RC planes would be of concern already has other issues like TREES, HOUSES, TOWERS!!!

    The regs do not say that you can not have multiple modules on a single drone. It just says that it must have a remote ID module that is broadcasting RID message elements.

    • @DDsAerialViews
      @DDsAerialViews Před rokem +1

      Here's the response I received from the FAA when I inquired about it!
      The answer is dependent upon the operating rule you are flying under.
      Recreational flyers essentially register themselves as a hobbyist. They receive a single registration number, which applies to all of the drones they own. If they opt to comply with the remote ID rule by using a single broadcast module for their inventory, then they register the broadcast module remote ID serial number, then list as inventory all of the drones they will fly with that module.
      Part 107 requires each drone to be registered individually by make/model/serial number. Each drone must carry its own unique registration number. Additionally, 14 CFR Part 48.110(7) states, "The serial number of a remote identification broadcast module provided in this application must not be listed on more than one Certificate of Aircraft Registration at the same time." The practical result is under Part 107, each aircraft must have its own broadcast module. The registrant will individually register each aircraft using its remote ID broadcast module's serial number.

  • @lifeinthefishbowl
    @lifeinthefishbowl Před rokem +2

    I have no problem complying with remote id. My problem is the modules were supposed to be $50, not $130 and up. Due to high risk flying I use several cheaper DJI drones like the mini se and 2 se that don’t have remote id built in so I’m probably done with those come September.

    Hey, what about a part 107 pilot who owns a fleet of drones over 20 for the sole purpose of performing air drone shows (assuming each drone is weighs less than the required amount to register), would RID apply to that individual, or just those who have to legally register their drone based on weight?

    I landed small planes there several times back in the early 1990s. Last time I went over there to fly my drone a few years ago they were plenty of signs put up by the Nashville Metro parks department that clearly said no drones. Have they changed the policy or did you get special permission?

    Is RID just a "Horn Honk" ? Only those in range of the RID transmitter can receive the info ? RID is not sent over the internet ?

    • @YellowRoseDrones
      @YellowRoseDrones Před rokem +1

      That is correct. They are not network capable, most of them at least. It is not required to be network capable. So if Karen is within a short proximity of your drone, they can use the app to look up the app but it doesn't tell them the pilot's name, it just gives the ID.

    You should do a test of a drone with built-in RID. Presumably if your drone is connected to the controller it can also broadcast RID as far as you can control it. Or Do the drones broadcast with a different signal frequency?

    0:50 "You should know who is doing surveillance over you."
    Well, that is a typical example of what people think drones are all about. And then think Remote ID is a good solution. I wonder what they would reply if they A: learn that the FAA considers every RC aircraft a drone, and B: are told that even a kid flying a 250g+ foam plane in a parc is required to use Remote ID
    Do kites need Remote ID btw? That would make it even more crazy...

  • @antonnym214
    @antonnym214 Před 2 měsíci +1

    If remote ID were REMOTELY constitutional, I wouldn't object. But CLEARLY it violates the first amendment freedom of press clause that means they can't infringe on public photography. Also it violates the fourth amendment. You do not have to provide ID if you are not doing anything illegal, so screw this law at the molecular level! All good wishes.

  • @eleglance
    @eleglance Před rokem +4

    Correct me if I'm wrong, this is all new to me: From what I understand, Remote ID tells our Karen friends 2 things:
    1) Where the drone is in the air &
    2) Where the drone operator is.
    I noticed the pin indicating the position of takeoff was pretty much rock solid. right? And that's probably the more important data for a Karen: where the drone operator is. So they V-LINE directly to the operator trying to do their job and they can complain about their freedoms being violated or whatever, urgh. Fun-times-ahead.

    I noticed your comment on the video about the firmware update for the P4P. I guess since DJI doesn't list the P4, I'm out of luck. Really not looking forward to having to buy and add a module onto my drone and not ready to purchase a new drone yet. Maybe the effective start date will get extended.
