I hope it can be resolved, there’s so much more awareness on PTSD and the importance of treating it now vs years ago. In fact, I’m in my 50’s and have Ptsd from much milder traumas in my childhood but Right up until I read your post,I assumed I’d always have to live with it 🤷‍♀️ I don’t know, I’ve been to counseling, therapists and all sorts of things but I never ever mentioned if I could just remove my body’s response to my triggers or how. Definitely have to have a talk with the people I see because I am not doing the act or the gift of LIVING justice. @@r.a.c.h6172 - Panic buttons are a great idea. One of my biggest fears as a teacher was that I wouldn’t make it to the door fast enough to get it locked before the bad guy got a chance to get in. A panic button would be great but I think it would need to be portable so the teacher could put it in her pocket or wear it on a lanyard so she could lock the door quickly from wherever she was in the classroom. Gas stations/convenience stores have them usually under the counter on the cashier’s side. One for a teacher would need to be more portable.
Some schools have already implemented a locked-classroom-door-at-all-times rule. That makes the most sense to me. Anyone who needs to get into a classroom during instructional time already has a key - principal,
assistant principal, custodian, and there should be an extra in the office with the secretary.
I’d still be in favor of the portable panic buttons though in case the class was outside, at lunch, or in the hallway.

Immediately took a left to deliver to the office but I could have easily walked around the school. It should not be this way...I should be walking through a metal detector and go through 2 sets of locked doors with questions being asked and even being refused to be let through the 2nd set of doors, leaving the bag for the customer to come get. This little boy is a hero!!! He saved all his class!!! He was very brave to run and tell the teache. Even me as an adult I think I've would've frozen with fear. May the Lord give strength and peace to the families and friends who lost a little angel and the four kids that one of the teachers have, she didn't hesitated to protect the kids even knowing that she was leaving her own kids. I'm not sure if the other teacher had any kids but my deepest condolences to all of the victims families.

If he came face to face with the shooter, yet 20 plus law enforcement officers stuted at the door and did nothing. He saved others students and his teacher. Many other students an teather would have been saved if law enforcement officers and their leaders would've acted sooner in busting the door down instead of waiting on a freaking key. When has any law enforcement officers waited on a key if they needed to get in a home or any other type of structure.

This 8 year old angel here was the "resources officer" who ran and told his teacher when he saw the devil face to face, and they could shut and barricade their 2nd grade classroom door. God! where were the adults who should have been carrying all this out for the whole school?!!!!

Our local gun stores are reporting record business today. This always happens after a mass shooting, because people are afraid that the federal government is finally going to institute meaningful restrictions on firearms.
Don't worry. If our country couldn't do anything after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in 2012, when twenty kindergarteners and six adults were murdered in cold blood, we won't do anything now. Sandy Hook was a turning point for this country: our refusal to take any steps to prevent another mass shooting means that we've accepted these as a way of life.
What's that, this isn't a good time to discuss this? It's NEVER a "good time" to discuss this, is it? So we never do.
This isn't the first mass shooting in the US and it won't be the last. And they will just keep getting bigger and deadlier, and it will never, ever, ever be the "right time" to discuss how to prevent it.
By the way, I was a teacher for thirty years, including elementary school at one point. If you say "arm the teachers", I'll just ignore you. Because if having teachers pack pistols and rifles is your "solution", you are just too stupid for words.
Y'all feel bad about this but you won't lift a finger to prevent another one. You can't bring back these little kids, but you could make the next shooting less likely. But you won't. So save your prayers and telling us all how really awful you feel. So do something. Words are meaningless. Only actions count.
