    Tip: Take a picture of the bar code on the back the detector. If you change your wifi name/password you will need to remove and re-add the nest detector. Easier to pull up a picture than to pull out the ladder X times.

      FYI: Nest has since updated this process (finally) for all gen 2’s to be able to do this wirelessly now through a software update!

    Nice videos on the nest protect, do you think this cleaning will clear the “CO2 Sensor Failure” on my Protect? It’s only 2 years old…

    Great video. Thanks for the info. I'm getting ready to install 8 Nest units in a new home that doesn't yet have wifi. But the Nests need to be installed so we can get the Certificate of Occupancy. Can I set up (program) the Nests in my rental (where I have wifi) and then bring them to my new home and get them installed there? Will I have to redo anything once my new home has wifi? Many thanks.

    Great video, used it as a refresher when I installed all 9 of my gen 2 wired ones. What have I learned so far, Nest protect does not like to be anywhere close to a bathroom with shower. Even with the steam feature enabled, when my daughters get out of the bathroom with the fan on, it still goes off every time.
    I did notice the firmware is from 2021 on my units but for some reason they won't update. If I can't get this fixed, I guess disable 1 out of 9. Kind of defeats the purpose but what are you going to do?

    About 2-1/2 years after initial installation, one of my Nest Protect units started to chirp and I got a low battery waring in my Nest app. I went to change the original factory-supplied L91 batteries in this unit (one of my THREE Protect products) and one of the batteries was VERY hot. The other 5 were normal temperature. I had to put the hot battery outside to let it cool off before discarding.
    I'm now worried about my other Protect products and will take them out of service today. I see on the forums hundreds of others had similar issues. Ever hear of or experience this yourself?

    Great info on this, quick question, do I need to have any nest products or I can just buy the detectors and use them just out of the box? I asked since I don't have a nest thermostat or cameras.
    Thank you.

    great video sir. we were planning to install this on a resort with 100 rooms. can a single app supports 100 nest protect device?

    • @nickbrous
      @nickbrous Před 3 lety +1

      The nest app supports 18 devices per home.
      You can have 3 homes (18*3 = 54 devices) with a nest based sign in.
      A google sign in will let you create 5 homes (18*5 = 90).
      I believe your only option is to sign up through google these days, so the answer to your question is 90.
      You can also create another google account with a different email address allowing you to add the remaining 10.
      You could possibly relate the different areas of the resort to the “homes” you create in the app.

    I got my first one to connect to the network on the 2nd try. The other 2 units would NOT connect (All wired units). I've tried about 40 times each so far.. I tried all the typical troubleshooting but no success yet. I wonder if once the first one is connected, disable it so the second unit THINKS its the first unit. Thats the only thing I can think of at this point. But on your video, one unit connects to the previous unit.
