Still enjoying this in 2023. Thank you, gals.
How they breathe together is amazing.
This is probably amongst the most heavenly of marimba pieces I've ever heard. Love every second of this.
Seeing this marvelous performance reminds of that great Ginger Rogers quote: She did everything Fred Astaire did, except backwards and in heels.
You two are perfection!!! The beautiful Marimba just makes things a million times better! Amazing job guys.
I've listened to this version of this piece so many times, and 4:19 never fails to give me chills. Beautifully done.
This is heavenly beautiful. What a performance. I'd love to hear this live.
This deserves much more views. Beautifully done. I can also imagine a violin playing a melody with that as well.
I still love this. I can't get over it. I turn the volume up all the way and this is one of my tests.
Dear Escape Ten, This is an incredible performance of this piece! Thank you for making a model of 2+1 that I feel comfortable referencing with my students. I love your sensitivity and attention to the musical nuances and groove. Bravo!
best marimba ever, huge. my high school, i regret not banging on them a little more, the sound and feel are one of a kind. two of a kind.
Such perfect musicality and control, wow
So satisfying to listen to. Absolutely perfect
I wish more people would like and appreciate music more. This needs more views because it's is better than most of the videos on this site in my opinion.
This definitely has to be one of my favorite marimba pieces ever now.
Playing this with a girl in my percussion class for Solo and Ensemble this year. :)
Two friend's of mine preformed this on a few days ago and it was so fascinating to watch in person. Beautiful preformance, to the both of you. 🖤🖤🖤
This is the best "marimba" video that youtube could afford me this morning. Watching it for the fifth time.
It amazes me like crazy every time I see someone masterful enough to be able to play with two mallets per hand! I'm still working on one mallet per hand!!!
Jolene ciccarone once you learn the four-mallet technique, excessive practice will result in expertise, just keep at it! i'm 13 and i've been learning the technique for quite some while and merely air-sticking with four mallets assists in the process of improving. good luck to you.
I love the way this sounds as I listen to it and I appreciate the technology that brings it to me. To me it isn't always about the skill of the musicians rather everything else: The quality of the: instruments played, microphones, computers, digital, post-processing (or lack of,) etc.
I gravitated to this video right away, seeing another musician approach the instrument alternatively (in this case upside down / backwards). The song is nice, I like many of the notes.
This is by far one of the best interpretations of the piece I have heard so far. Loved the voicing choices and balance. Great job!!!
this brought me to tears. so beautiful.
:D
YES! Man--good mallet playing is the key to my heart, I swear!
Excellent work, Ivan! Yet another great marimba duo to add to the world's repertoire! Keep up the great work!
You guys are amazing! You played with such passion and so much musicality. I hope I can play this piece as well as you all!
Der Klang ist genial
what a beautiful piece and great touch of the instruments. well done girls.
7 black olives + 1 green olive
LOL took me a minute to realize
Favorite comment I’ve ever seen
It is similar, no, to them competing against each other, though it is to the beholder that the melody rise.
beautiful
I love this piece, you guys did an amazing job!!
Ruhe bewahren und genießengute Laune machen zum Corona
I demand a HD version!
hear hear
You guys played at Steele yesterday! Y'all were amazing. :-)
show that xylophone who's boss 4:04 love this piece plus the classy wear and that rock star flare you two gave
How did you get that wrong... Marimba is in the title
Sounds pretty the way they are sincronized!
Have watched so many times
Beautiful piece!
im in love. beautiful song
Perfect synergy! Amazing!
The quality of the recording is so good that I can hear you breathing in unison doing the tick tock... practice makes perfect.
quality of the microphones is better
bit rate of an mp3 should never be set to less than 320 kbps
sampling rate should be 44 kHz or higher, highest rate available (48, 96, 192, etc.)
what
Ecellent performance !!!
Easy! Go to Ivan Trevino's website that is listed in the video description to purchase sheet music! Thanks for watching!
Lovely.
Absolutely gorgeous.
Patrick, your great grandfather James Francis Brannigan (my mom's father) played the xylophone. He was self taught. How he came by a xylophone I never got that part. he he
That is so awesome! Are there pictures?!?!
Somewhere. But I do not have any myself. I will check with my Aunt Lucy and see if she can come up with some. My brother Pete self taught piano and guitar. I know how to open the turntable and put an album on. ;-)
Hahaha, did you ever try any instruments?
Piano and Violin. I prefer the violin. Nobody else did. heehee
Que trabajo y que arte! Maravilloso! (spanish language)
sounds pretty cool in 0.5 speed great job!
Beautiful, transcendent ....sub'd and liked!
absolutely awesome
soooooooo prettyyy
好舒服喔
This makes me feel so relaxed.
Amazing sound
Very nice + soft touch at 2:40. Lovely playing.
2:33 agreed
4:04 is better :)
Very talented, congratulations!
muy bien excelente me hizo vibrar me llego al espiritu Bendiciones todo lo que respire alabe a Jehova!!!!
Just bought it!
Fantastic!
Very nice
What mallets are you using?!?!
really awesome
Lovely. Merci.
PHÓDA !!!
Muita proficiência !
wonder where that marimba is now, bet it's wortha whole bunch by now...
Awesome !
whenever I stood in front of a marimba like this I received a feeling that people watching me were thinking "be careful" or that they were jealous of me, that I could just smack it and make some music.
bcmasur like they were afraid I suddenly wasn't a musician because they thought I might not have known I was in the presence of a $50,000 machine. I always look at instruments in MY PRESENCE as if they are worth a million dollars.
+bcmasur What the hell are you talking about?
Please check out our new Radiohead video - Weird Fishes and Pyramid Song!
Escape Ten - Radiohead
Great, just curious as to why mics are above?
すごく好き
19 people are jealous because they don't have the skill for this.
actually its because their standards arent that terribly low, but whatever man
classic
Finessee!
Does anyone know if it is an absolute necessity to use a 4.5 octave marimba, because I only have access to a 4.3.
7+1
Seven are almost black and one is almost like an olive.
seven black olives plus one green olive
When you were mostly playing from the high half of the marimba you should have switched the camera angle to that end! Low end angle is dramatic also.
aw mannn if the audio was just a little louder!!! Still an absolute beautiful song though!
Is there a 4 octave version of this song I could play for scho
What's it called where you leave the mallet on the key and deaden the ring? That produces a very interesting effect. (2:30)
Called a dead stroke; one of my favorite ways of producing a unique sound on a marimba.
What mallets
You guys! you got the sound. You just got it. How about you come to Sweden and set up your stage in a forest?
This reminds me of the whole pregnancy process... like the soft start is finding out your pregnant, the build up to the climax is all the months in between, the climax is the actual birth, and when it gets soft the baby is born :)
Okay.
What the actual fuck?
oh my god i read this comment like ages ago and i still think of this "pregnancy" thing whenever i listen to this piece. i laugh every time
Actually. Idk I felt like the baby died at the end of this just cause the way it ends. idk it gives me the vibe of sad ending
Still the best 2+1
99.0
Do it again as one single recording without the clacks and the camera angle from above!
I think this is already faster than theirs slightly, but make it FASTER
bcmasur or split angle viewing
How many times are you going to comment on this video? lol
Oh my gosh!! 4:05!
"sniff"
Can anybody tell me what mallets they are using or what you think sounds good for this piece?
Hi quints4ever,
We are using Malletech MB8's on top and MB5's with a bass mallet on bottom. Also have used Malletech Chamber series 14's and 8's with a bass on bottom. Thanks for watching!
What mallets are you ladies using?
Looks like a combination of Malletech Burritt's and one randy green mallet, Mark Ford maybe?
my friend caomhan found this in 2014. he thought it was really good
Is one part easier or harder than the other? I would like to play this with a friend and I am wondering which person should play which part.
There seems like there's equal movement, although I wanna say maybe the person behind the marimba since they have to be able to hit the notes backwards and their mallets are hitting on a wider scale opposed to the other person
Brendan Smith
Well, the player on the regular side has much more playing to do, but the other player is playing backwards. I would say they're equal in different ways
How much was this marimba worth before you played it?
It must be worth double at the end of this video.
What is the song called, and where may I download the sheet music?
SkyrimRules599 Got the name...however I need a place I can download it for free......
SkyrimRules599 You can get the music at www.IvanDrums.com - but you can't download it for free. Escape Ten hopes you will support this amazing composer and purchase the music.
mavipixy Which grip do you recommend for each player. Steven's technique for both or another grip style?
SkyrimRules599 Hi there. Whatever grip you are comfortable with, and can play permutations with is fine!
nice;)
I don't think there's any amount of money that you could pay me to learn a backwards marimba part. Could you theoretically just play this like a regular marimba duo?
You could, but it this way makes the performance a little bit more visually intriguing to the audience.
いいね
killer
also from 4:04 at the height of the song looks like she was doing the dab
everyone else I see playing this uses too much elbow and not enough wrist. other duos I've seen playing this are clacking MUCH more than twice and it's mostly the BOTTOM player clacking. Hold wrists higher/forward, less elbow, from both sides.
brave
the best parts were the loudest parts
