🤘hopefully, Amorphis are still touring with Nightwish when I see them at Wembley at the end of the year 🙏. I am always blown away that one guy can produce both those vocals, switching from growls to clean . Frikkin amazing.

You can check out the story of the Kalevala related to the bee here
    czcams.com/video/ncHVNPOs16o/video.html
The Kalevala is an epic collection of poems published in 1835 and 1849, collected from Finnish mythical songs from Karelian villages, also from song battles.

Knowing where Amorphis started from I believe is quite important to understand the basis of their music. I would definitely recommend their earlier albums. Few of their earlier hits that people remember them from could be 'My kantele'.
Also, thank you for popping up on my CZcams feed quite conveniently just now with The Bee that's one of my all time favourite songs altogether. Consider yourself subscribed.

Hi Joseph! I think you should do a few songs (there's plenty of good suggestions in your Daughter of hate comments) and then check out album Queen of time. It's their latest release and a really good one to start with. Skyforger, Silent waters and Eclipse are my favorite ones also. Not forgetting the old ones from early 90's Karelian isthmus, Tales from the thousand lakes, but the band was really young and kind of inventing a new genre back then (among other melodeath pioneers). Lyrics are almost in all of their albums from the Finnish national epic Kalevala, either straight translations or at least inspired by it. Since, I think 2007 the lyrics have been written by artist/author Pekka Kainulainen. Amorphis has had 3 different singers 1st two albums it was Tomi Koivusaari (rhythm guitarist) doing growls. From 3rd album on it was Pasi Koskinen and at that time they introduced clean vocals too. I think Tomi Joutsen (current vocalist) has been with them since Eclipse (I wanna say 2005) I'm writing off the top of my head here 😂 Someone correct if my memory sucked 😂

@@BaldHeadedMETAL They just finished recording their new album which is coming out sometime next year. Lead guitarist Esa Holopainen released solo album earlier this year and it has been on heavy rotation in my headphones. It's a bit softer stuff than Amorphis, but really good imo. Guest vocalists from band like Leprous and Katatonia. Silver Lake by Esa Holopainen, check it out if you are intrested 😉

You will most likely get suggestions like death of a king and amongst stars, those are some more radio friendly songs from Amorphis. I suggest you listen Magic and mayhem album where the band re-recorded their most popular old songs to match modern standards, that's a good introduction to classic Amorpis. For the newer material and the current sound of the band, i'd recommend Under the red cloud album.

Good stuff! I’d recommend to start with the Eclipse album, though some others might suggest earlier stuff like Elegy or Tales from the Thousand Lakes. Eclipse is the first with singer Tomi Joutsen (which you are now familiar with) and has a good variety of their different styles. Tales is a bit more harsh death metal than the other two, which are more melodic.
