Do you need serum to use the sounds or can you use other plugins ?
Heey Yannick, when is it good to put the side chain above everything in the mix and when is it good to put the side chain as the last plugin in the mix ?
Depends on how prominent you want it to be. Let's say you put a delay after it, the delay won't be sidechained. If you put a regular compressor afterwards, it can bring the part that you first compressed down with the sidechaining back up. So I'd put any dynamics processing (gate, compressor, expander, transient shaper etc) before a sidechain. Whether you want a reverb or so to be after it can be your decision, just make sure it doesn't negate the effect or create unwanted artifacts (reverberation of the ducking effect).

Why not use the step sequencer and patterns for the kick/percussion? What about the swing knob instead of manually adjusting the midi of the closed hats?

2 types of producers - first using step sequencer and the second using samples in arrangement mode. I use both bc i like too have FX like riser, crashes and soon on in arrangement mode. U have have more control over it.
Definitely Situational. I personally like having the extra bit of control over my samples.
