Using a Flesh Tearers scheme, I show you how easy it is to get a great result from using contrast paints on power armour! It can take a bit of getting used to, but with my tips, hopefully you’ll be able to try out lots of different schemes and experiment with contrast paints on space marines! Here's the basing scheme I used on this model too:

See you in the next video soon! - Jak na to + styl
I’ve decided to start Flesh Tearers for 10th and I think that model, once you’ve added the Nuln Oil, is just perfect, exactly what I want to try! Thanks very much, as always, for making it look so easy 😃
Awesome, great choice for 10th! Glad you found a scheme you like, bring on the army now!
Have you tried using the Mantis Warrior Green contrast paint? How about Mantis Warriors for your next project. Nice paint job on the Flesh Terrors
I do love all the badab wars chapters. So that’s a solid choice.
The Flesh Tearers color scheme is so simple yet so beautiful. Excellent job, and great video as usual
I really do love this scheme. And thanks as always pal.
WHY every time i seek a painting tutorial i always end up in this channel... Man i love your work, it just resonates with my style! Thanks for sharing all your knowledge!
Aw love to hear that! Thanks man and glad I can help you out!
So fast and effective yet again. Great job!
Thanks for the kind words pal.
Very clean result with the contrast. Looks very nice. Thank you
Cheers pal. Glad you like it.
Looks great. Love the simplicity of the paint job
Appreciate that pal.
Did this with the slap chop method and turned out amazing! Thank you so much you’re awesome! You’re one of my favorite painters on CZcams!
You just made my day! Thanks so much man, really glad I can help in any way, and delighted you’re happy with result!
Awesome job!
Thank you.
The Flesh Tearers are such a cool chapter! They take that inner aggression that every son of Sanguinius has and don't even pretend to hide it. This one looks like he has gone full rip and tear on his enemies.
I'd love to see you take on Minotaurs. I wonder how these techniques turn out when used on a mostly metallic scheme (and their Greek aesthetic is dope).
Great suggestion on the next chapter. And yes there awesome.
Sweet paint scheme, quick and effective
Cheers pal.
Very helpful vid - am feeling brave enough to have a go at it. Cheers!
That’s awesome to hear, hope it goes well!
Stunning video
Cheers pal.
Fantastic video as always. I would love to see more Dark angels or Deathwing painted up with contrast
I was thinking this myself. Potentially also some of the other unforgiven chapters as they can include these colours.
Solid ideas. I do love the idea of a large fallen army. That’s probably the dark angels army I would do. Leaning more on loyalists.
each video makes you want to paint. Thank you for this video which really learns worked the contrast. 👍👍👍👍💪💪💪
That’s so nice to read pal. Really appreciate it.
Awesome paint job
Cheers pal.
Very dark and this red is awesome ! Great job
Cheers pal.
Angels of Absolution or another Dark Angels successor with that bone colour. Celestial Lions or Soul Drinkers would be good as well. Nice job with the Flesh Tearer.
Cheers pal. I’d love to do an absolution. Or that white dwarf chapter. The tomb keepers.
I could use many more quick painting of these space marines in deffinerent colors schemes! God it looks good and easy
Cheers pal.
Very very very thanks You ❤!
Right back at you for watching! Appreciate it!
I needed this how to video so thank you.
Glad it was helpful to you!
@Mediocre Hobbies Extremely! _runs to build my heavy intercessors_
I’d agonise over traditional edge highlighting. It took so long and I really didn’t enjoy it. I followed the video and very happy with results, I’ll be sticking to this method with my flesh tearers! Thanks!
Thanks so much! Yeah edge highlighting can look great but if it’s stopping you from getting models finished then it’s good to step back and realise it’s not necessary!
Hi I’m new to painting and I’ve used what you did in this video! Thank you for make this video!
My models look awesome
Anytime
Pal. Go dot helped.
- Dark angels
- And a color scheme with oranges as a primary color.
Ofcause done with contrast or speed paints
Of course. I’d love to base out a nice orange one.
Great video as ever, Andy. I am thinking a similar approach on the red would work for Blood Ravens (for my sins my chapter of choice) but instead of using Nuln Oil for a wash use the new-formula Agrax Earthshade. Plenty of great ideas here even if one's own chapter of choice is not the focus.
Cheers pal. And yes it would work perfectly for raven guard.
I'm trying to do a human Blood Bowl team in the colors of the Crimson Tide, that looks like a great color to use.
Yep should work a treat.
Something COOL
Nice.
Flesh Tearers are my favourite chapter along with Salamanders (💚). Thanks for making this video! Love the end result. Shows how quick and easy the process can be. A question. How would you get around doing a black leather (avoiding edge highlights)?
Thanks pal. Black leather is a good question. Leather tends to be a little shiny. So make sure you don’t use mat paint. Potentially the new black legion contrast paint.
Hi Andy, very nice tutorial and paint job. I really like your style of painting and i would love to see you painting a Black Templar in your Contrast Style. Because im starting my Crusade or you could say i am looking for an easy and good looking painting scheme. 😉
Hmmm I have a playlist on how to paint every single black templar model already up. So I’m ahead of that one. Glad your liking the videos.
@@MediocreHobbies oh than i missed that, and go looking now :-) thank you
@@denislutz162 any time.
Ooooh! Might knock a squad together. Not a fan of edge highlighting either, I always think it looks unnatural, great video
Yep not a fan of it at all. And go for it I’d love to see you do it.
So the red would have ended up much darker with the old Nuln Oil then?
I bet this red tutorial would work great for Farsight Enclaves Tau as well!
Yep it would 100% look great for far side. And yes it would have been very dark with old nuln oil.
I've been practicing this method when painting my marines ever since you showed it when showing the HH videos it's a great way to paint :)
A question about layering, I personally have trouble at times figuring out what counts as a recess area and end up almost repainting the whole mini again because of that. Do you have any tips?
Great video as always Andy :) and could we see the Crimson fists?
So normally the shade should show you where the recesses are and give you an idea on where not to paint. But just think about where light won’t hit like cracks and grooves. If that makes sense. And yes a crimson fist is for sure on the cards.
@@MediocreHobbies That does make sense thank you very much :) and can't wait
Would you apply transfers before doing the sponge and blood at the end?
I’m definitely going to try this style it looks fantastic thank you for sharing
Yes 100% as the symbols would have been weathered and chipped as well as the armour.
what Red would you use for Flesh Tearers tanks? I don't get nice results with Contrast on the bigger tank surfaces
Khorne red would be the closest.
Hey! I love to paint the flesh tearers how you showed here. I dont layer the colors over the contrast colors though.
How would you prime tanks or dreadnoughts with those colors? Leadbelcher or still black with white zenithal?
Have a great day!
The same as the infantry so they all match.
If you don’t have the newest version of nuln oil will the old one still work?
It will indeed. It will just be a little darker before you start layering.
I am hoping that you will do a tutorial when worldeaters drops
No need to hope. That’s is a 100% guarantee
Knights of Blood SM
Yup
now i'm confused....why using contrast paint if than we do the wash phase as well as re-establishing the red base with a non contrast paint? Wouldn't be the same result if we go with the red, nuln oil wash and red again? how much of the original contrast paint is really showing after the wash+red?
Using the contrast as the basecoat speads up the process. In the same time it would take to coat the boot and shin armour with normal red paint you would have the contrast red on all the armour. I also mentioned for speed painting you don’t have to relayer if your don’t want to. I liked the contrast and wash result.
What Brushes do you use? I've noticed that some of mine make huge differences with the contrast paints "Streaking" look, even when overfilling the brush. Curious what you use to give em a try.
Mostly just standard gw models.
Could you do a sons of Medusa one please?
Not a bad idea.
Would you do Dark Angels in this style but just swap out the Reds for Dark Angels contrast and Caliban Green?
If you can hang on for a few more weeks I do have plans for a 40k Dark Angels scheme!
I will be looking forward to it 😊
Hey. Great video. Quick question from a noob painter - would you use this technique on larger models such as Terminators, Dreadnoughts and Tanks? Or would the contrast paint not work well? Cheers.
Check out my channel, I have a lot of videos covering all of those 😊 let me know if you have any questions after!
Do you reckon there would be a huge difference if I just prime the model in grey instead of doing the zenithal? Great tutorial btw, I love the end result :)
Yes the grey would be very dark to take the contrast. You need something brighter.
3 - 1 ratio ish water / khorn red?
No just a touch of water so it flows better.
Mate.. i'm not getting the kind of results youre showing.
What am i doing wrong?.
Are you?
Taking your time?
Having a loaded brush so your not tearing paint?
And painting one section at a time so you can prevent pooling or streaking?
Slapping it on then reloading the brush heavily. Tearing.. yeah theres plenty of that. Pooling and streaking comes with an overloaded brush?.
Heeeeellppppp!! 🤣🤣👍🍻
Turn the auto focus off
Will give that a go thanks!
so, did they reduce the bottle-size of the shade paints, but keep the price the same..? and made them half as strong as the old formula, so you need to use twice as much to get the same result..? geez... why do people still buy GW paints? they're virtually the only company that doesn't use dropper bottles; their bottles contain less paint than other companies; they are more expensive than most other companies; their bottles are DESIGNED to leak paint as soon as you open them. then there's the "dry" paints, AKA modern-day snake oil...
when i got back into the hobby i bought a bunch of GW paints, naturally, since i thought they were the best paints available. now, every time i look at my GW paints i feel ashamed. i'm so glad other companies have released contrast-style paints - the Vallejo ones look incredible! and the Greenstuff World ones are huuuge! :P needless to say, i haven't bought a single GW paint in a long, long time, and i don't plan to either.
oh, and most other companies that sell paints also sell wet palettes. guess which company doesn't sell wet palettes, and instead sell regular old dry palettes. hmm, i wonder why that specific company wouldn't want your paints to last longer...
sorry for the rant :P nice video as always! :)
Sending hugs pal. Don’t worry they can’t hurt you anymore lol. All valid points.
