  • SA Law, 2004 - South Africans are taking the law into their own hands, as communities feel they are abandoned by police, some say it's worse than during Apartheid.

A decade on from the end of Apartheid, many believe that the streets are more dangerous than ever before.
Small businesses in the township of Alexander employ private security firms to keep crime under control. The police are not trusted to deal with the problem efficiently. Mapogo, the country's biggest vigilante group relies on robust methods to exercise justice. Armed with a Sjambok whip and hosepipe, they extract confessions from suspects. "It's the only way they will talk!" says one satisfied Mapogo client. But it's a rough kind of justice, open to abuse. One suspect is held for four days, lashed until he bleeds and then chained up outside. Both black and white communities are angry that democracy has not fulfilled its promise. "The crime wave began with Mandela's walk to freedom!" claims one resident. And as the insecurity increases, more and more people are prepared to take the law into their own hands.

If you actually looked up the crime stats pre 1994, you'll notice that crime has not gotten worse since Apartheid ended, the opposite actually happened. The only reason people feel like crime is getting worse is because prior to 1994, 74% of police resources were allocated to policing the white population. When police were suddenly allocated to serve everybody, the middle classes started feeling less protected by the police. That drove the sense that crime was going up, when it actually wasn't.

The reason for "Apartheid" was that the SA White minority had invested much labor and capital into the country, believing that if able to vote, a Black majority would treat them unfairly and destroy what they created, as we see they were 100% correct.
As others have stated, this is more about education than race, by percentage educated Blacks are the largest group trying to leave SA, many Whites have already left.
The HARD truth, is that the educated White minority was a blessing to the poor Black population, they kept order and created jobs, but many resented their wealth, seeing this ANC communist agitators, stirred up trouble and took full advantage of this.

The death penalty needs to be introduced with a 3 strike conviction so we can plant fear and respect into future generations, a stream can flow in many directions but always chooses the easiest path so educate parents and youth, this revolution is only possible if 3 generations are educated and afforded better lives.

I'm a 24 year old man who grew up with friends of all races and went to multiracial schools etc. For my generation race is getting less and less relevant, the only time I see people fighting and arguing about race is when I'm on the internet, when I come across videos like this. If you pay attention, usually people that don't get along with people of other races are usually older and grew up in a different time. These days when I go out I see at least one interracial couple. Now, South Africa's ANC Government is on a path to making a criminal of a person that defends self, loved ones and property against murderous criminals.
The intention appears to be that the most drastic action permitted will be to tell the criminal to stop trespassing and leave, and to call the SAPS to send a police officer to the crime scene; an on-the-ball officer, probably a Constable, may arrive within 12 hours, if it doesn't take several days or more, by which time the unknown actual criminal will be untraceable and the injury or damage done, irreversible.
