I literally just learned about this in Chemistry. The balloon shrunk when stuck in the liquid nitrogen because the cold temperature caused the pressure inside the balloon to decrease. This happens because when temperatures drop, molecules move slower than they do in higher temperatures, and when the molecules move slower, they don't bounce off of surfaces nearly as often, which is what causes different levels of pressure, hence why the balloon shrunk when the molecules inside got cold. And then when they took the balloon out, it expanded again because the opposite thing happened. The molecules in the balloon warmed up, causing them to bounce off the of surface faster, creating more pressure and allowing the balloon to expand. SCIENCE!

The reason the balloon shrank is because when gas is cooled, its volume decreases. So in the extreme cold, the gas (oxygen/nitrogen) inside the balloon's volume began to decrease, causing the balloon to shrink. Chemistry ;)

Correct, in a way. The heat energy from the gas passes onto the colder liquid with less energy, thus the gas particles in the balloon lose energy, losing speed and impact the outside of the balloon at lower speeds and with less energy. The gas particles lose energy and speed, and begin to slow down unable to counteract the pressure from the outside and the balloon shrinks/collapses. In a whole the energy moves onto the liquid, and then has less energy and thus force to provide enough pressure the keep the balloon inflated at its current size. The gas particles just sort of bounce around in a smaller area and are able to keep the balloons structure because the force is more concentrated in the smaller area. Also, Physics.

I thought the same thing, but I'm not sure it would work. The drastic change in temperature could cause condensation inside the PC for one. You also have to consider the fact that the liquid nitrogen would turn to a gas eventually and it might not be able to go back to a liquid state at room temperature.
