With another day dawning bright and early in Bridgetown, Barbados, my friends Craig, Nerissa, and I set out to have a Bajan street food breakfast and tour of the capital city!
We started at some outdoor craft vendors near the bridge that connects the two halves of the city. There was a nice man named Nigel selling lots of handmade sandals, belts, necklaces, bracelets, rings, and hats! They used lots of local materials like coconut and cowrie shells, as well as beads!

I bought three anklets for my two daughters and my niece for 25 BBD/$12.50 USD each, and a coconut bracelet. Past that is a square where they honor the national hero, Errol Walton Barrow, who led the fight for Barbados’ independence and was the first Prime Minister of Barbados.
Nearby is a harbor for boats. It’s beautiful! Across the bridge, we saw the Parliament building, a colonial building that was built between 1870 and 1874. Then, we headed down Broad Street to get some pastries. The buildings were colorful!
We arrived at Crumbz Bakery, which doesn’t have a sign outside. They have several pastries, but we decided to go with three: the beef patty, currant slice, and meat roll, which came to 25.75 BBD, or about $13 USD.
The meat roll was flaky and reminded me of a pastel. I loved the buttery, flaky layers. The beef was really nice and it had some tasty spices in it. It was really unique!
The currant slice was a dense, rolled-up pastry containing lots of currants. It had lots of layers and also contained cinnamon and raisins. It was very filling and tasty! And finally, the beef patty was large and flaky with tons of meat inside. It had a curry-like flavor but also had a sweetness to it.
Adding my David’s Been Here hot sauce added a nice kick of tropical sweetness from the pineapple and guava, and a small amount of heat!
From there, we walked to a street market on Swan Street one street over. There are swans in the mosaic-like designs on the ground. I could see vendors selling clothing, produce, jewelry, sandals, and more.
I tried a Bajan cherry from a vendor. They didn’t have much meat on them, but they were very sweet and tasty!
We walked to the end of the street and turned around and got some snow cones sold by a man named Tyson. They add lots of fruit flavors and condensed milk. It was like a creamy alcoholic snow cone for only 5 BBD/$2.50 USD. The Baileys and nutmeg in it blew me away! It was my favorite snow cone I’ve ever had!
From there, we headed over to Cheapside Market, which is a local farmer’s market! You can buy produce, juices, meat, clothes, and more. Saturdays are the best days to visit, but they’ve mostly closed during the week. There were only a few vegetable vendors open, but the butchers were open!
There were eight or nine butchers open, selling beef, cow heel, lamb neck, pig feet, pig ears, tongue, brain, and more. They have an amazing saw that can cut straight through the bone! It was so cool to see!
Back outside, we met a woman named Sheryl selling bottled sugarcane juice and coconut water, as well as pepper sauces! Her pepper sauces are 10 BBD/$5 USD each. She also makes tamarind balls. Some of them contain fresh cayenne pepper! It was very sticky and had a real spicy kick to it!
The sugarcane juice was very sweet and refreshing! It was exactly what I needed on a hot day. She also sells seasonal juices!

Watching this video just brings back memories of being in Barbados. My Parents from St Michael so we went back and forth lots when we were growing up. I’ve not been back for almost 20 years but will be going hopefully next June. Just seeing the rock cakes, snow Cones and coconut bread and in the other video the Mac and cheese and flying fish just made my mouth water. I can not wait to get back. Beautiful Barbados: an island that we used to call tourist island a long time ago because of it's tourism. Thanks Nerissa and Craig for being such gracious hosts. I loved those pastries: crispy, flaky, beef patties. We have the currants rolls in Trinidad as well and they are dense so you need a cup of hot tea or coffee to wash it down. Can't go wrong with freshly-made flaky pastries. I figured that you would go for the Guinness snow cone. Gave you a buzz. So you see, David, no matter what island you visit, you will always eat or drink something familiar. Bridgetown itself is a beautiful city. Too bad it was Thursday and not a Saturday when everyone came out because it looked quiet. Loved all the things you bought for your daughters and niece, and how can you pass up on the pepper sauce. You almost forgot it though. Island people (Caribbean/West Indian) the best, friendliest and you will find, honest to goodness down to earth and humble people anywhere. What else is there to say!!! I really love this series. Nothing complicated at all. Just a really nice visit to Barbados. Great job. Blessings to all involved. Kudos to Nerissa and Craig. Beef patties looked soo good but will pass on them though. My body has not had much beef for long time. When I have ate it my body is like what is this lol.. @@JudyT868 Thank you Judy I do drink warm water not too cold or hot. I don't like it anymore now days. Warm water helps move leftovers from stomach after you eat so i do that a lot. Today made Chettinad Pepper Chicken in Tamil was delish . I made it though not as spicy as I would like but was still delish. Depression sucks yes. When i can actually cry i do.. Think been this way so long tears almost dried out lol. but they do come time to time. Thank you Judy for the love and care. Much appreciated . The best Coucou and fish in Bridgetown is from Mustors restaurant, Split peas with Rice and a mouth watering beef stew . Delicious.

Capitol is nice city . Sweet gifts for your niece and daughters smiles. I love the colors of all the buildings. Will take current rolls mmmmm beef current meat rolls look really good. bit hot sauce on meat and beef rolll to top that flavor :D Yum will t ake Baileys snow cone lol . Markets amazing as always. If I ever get to travel that would be must stop. Also bring extra luggage lol. LOL you and brainz that was crazy to see chop chop the head.. One thing is there is no waste of anything. Being local,I'm shocked to see you found a sweet cherry,we ent neva had a sweet cherry in BIM( local name for Barbados), ummm maybe a lead pipe,that's a real bajan pastry, we do have a few that only we have,not the ones you tried,we can get those in most islands.

@@giselleholiday8728 sorry I can't give him a break. He's was very immature and lacked any sort of knowledge. They were taken to Bridgetown and to the market on a day when it was extremely quiet with no vendors. I don't know of the arrangements between David and him but from watching Davis videos and the other 90 pluc countries he's visited he always had someone who was a foodie expert with much more maturity and experience.
