YES!!! My expensive 25 footer wouldn't go back in all the way, and this saved me. THANK YOU!!!
You’re welcome I’m glad the video help you out. Thank you for taking the time to comment
Thank you so much!!!! My little one's love to pull my husband's EXPENSIVE tape measure out till it won't return and because I don't want him mad I usually buy another but this time I was clever and looked for a video and this made it so simple!!!! I saved $25!!!! Thank you!!!!!
You’re so welcome I’m glad you found the video helpful and save yourself $25 now the little ones are happy and your husband’s happy too and it’s easier on the wallet. I love reading these comments. Have a great day.
nobody cares that it’s “EXPENSIVE”
@@ro_dweeb2498 it’s expensive to me! I CARED!!!! I don’t have $25 laying around all the time even if it was going to give me peace. That is a lot for a tool in my opinion but it’s not my tool…I think the ones from dollar tree are just as good but hey that’s why I got smart and found this video! I guess you did too smarty.

Omg the same thing happened to me this morning lol
excellent, tried to fix mine. rolled the spring up really good and glued it in as it had come off the spindle. put it all back together and quickly realised I had wound the spring up the wrong way and the tape measure springs out. tried to "undo" my brainwave glueing effort and snapped the spindle and the sping shot out in a nice big birds nest. Excellent to see you fixed yours.
Don’t feel bad I’ve had that happen to my name as well as far as the spring popping out into a gnarly mess.
Thank you so much you saved me a great deal of money. From Jamaica 🇯🇲
I find that this is a really good example of how garage door torsion springs work. You want there to be just enough tension on that spring where it just moves the tape back into the unit consistently. The spring shouldn't be so tightly wound that the tape violently lashes around when it retracts, and the spring shouldn't be so weak that it can't pull back in the tape. Just the right amount of force.
Yes I agree, it certainly needs to have a balance. Thanks for taking the time to comment
Thank you! Ive broken my fathers old tape measure which he used almost every day and is my dearest thing i inherited from him, I hope I can get it fixed using this video, i was wondering how to get it open but now i know :) Can't explain how much this means to me!
You’re welcome I’m glad it helped thank you for taking the time to comment
Wow! Thanks! My Stankey 16-footer would retract. Your CZcams video showed me how to fix it in ten minutes. Now I don't need to drive to the store and buy a new one! Thanks for your clear and helpful video!
It would not retract - now it does!
Your welcome, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Mine went back right when the video started
Thank you for the video. I had a brand new 35ft Husky tape measure I bought as a set a few years ago. It didn't even retract with help. It's been sitting in my toolbox since new and I just never got around to taking it back. Now it's discontinued so I figured I see if someone made a video on taking one apart. Yours was close enough so I took it apart and was able to reattach the spring to the post. Now it works.
Thats great to hear. thanks for taking the time to comment
I needed two spins for my Kobalt 35’. Thanks for the video.
Thank you this was super helpful
Your welcome
Thank you so much! My son had pulled out the tape and unhooked from the spring, so that it completely unwound. I was not sure how to open it, but thanks to your video was able to do it and got it fixed. Works as good as new now, maybe better 🙂
You are very welcome, I’m glad you were able to get it fixed. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment.
Good idea. Ive never bothered to open one but I do have a stubborn tapemeasure that im going to try to fix. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
You’re welcome, I hope you’re able to fix it.
Learned and subbed. Thank you

My tape measure sprung apart and became all twisted up like a bird's nest. I was on the verge of scrapping it out until I saw your video. Thank you!
You’re very welcome I hope you get it back up and running. Thanks for taking the time to comment
I just did this on my tape and it works perfectly now thanks to your video 👍
I’m glad it helped, anything to save a few dollars. Thanks for commenting we really appreciate it
THANK YOU!! JUST THE INFO I NEEDED!
Thank you!! So helpful. Worked on an overextended komelon 25ft tape. 🙌 awesome
You’re welcome I’m glad it works. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
Awesome video. I've thrown a dozen away over the years with that same problem. Never occurred to me that they're "serviceable".
I was about to throw mine away. This video saved the day.
Thanks for the video on how to fix a tape measure. I felt more confident I could fix mine after watching.

Thank you. I just learned how to fix my tape measure by watching your video. I didn't even need to take completely apart. 🤣🤣🤣
thats great thanks for commenting
Was hoping to see how to reassemble this AFTER the spring housing had been removed.
Thanks for your help! I wish I had watched this BEFORE I took my tape measure apart!! The inner pieces went flying! 😆
I’m sorry you did not find my video in time but I hope it helps you with future issues thanks for taking the time to comment and check out my channel you might find a video of something that I fix that you may have trouble with in the future thanks again and have a great day.
Great!!! Simplified a puzzle!!!! Thanks!
your welcome , thanks for taking the time to comment
Thanks alot for your help. I had a measuring tape give me the same problem a while ago. I threw it away only to buy a few one and have the same problem again.
Glad I could help
This was great, thanks!
Your welcome
Thanks, have a 25Ft unit that had stopped, and this worked wonderfully, just had to do it with the back side, (non label). Otherwise, perfect instructions. Any of you needing to do this, pay attention to which way the spring is winding when you are doing it, and see how he's doing it if you can't get it the first time, I had to rewatch to get it in all honesty
Thanks for taking the time to comment I’m glad the video help you out
Awesome mate!❤❤❤ Thankyou so much
You are very welcome, thank you for commenting.
You may lose length when you do that. I tried it on a 10ft Stanley and could only extend it 7ft. I loosen the tension and it went to 10ft. Guess the spring is shot.
Interesting, I’ve never had that happen. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Nice tip! Thanks!
You’re welcome, thank you for commenting
nice plastic pegs on my vintage craftsman i thought was metal broke haha

Thanks so much!
You’re very welcome, I’m glad I was able to help. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Thanks. My dad's, that probably dates to the '60s, jammed hard. I had tried monkeying with it in the past but had always been a little reticent to start prying. I wasn't able to get it working--feels like there's a kink in the tape such that I hadn't even been able to force it back in--but at least this memento now takes up 2" instead of 82".
Lol well I’m glad I was able to help and yeah sometimes they’re worth more as a sentimental piece than anything else. Thank you for taking the time to comment and telling me your story
thanks!
Thank you so much ❤❤
Yes very welcome, thank you for taking the time to comment
So nice
Thanks, I've taken several apart without success. They always sprung apart.
I’m glad you like the video hopefully That doesn’t happen again to you and you’re able to fix them. Thank you for commenting
Great, worked with our 15year old tape. Wanted to throw out, thanks to your video works again.
I’m glad it worked for you as well. Thanks for taking the time to comment
Hi thanks so much
You’re welcome, thanks for commenting.
I have the reverse problem. My tape won’t lock anymore when I slide the button forward. Can it be helped? Thanks!
its is possible that the lock is just to warn out, you would have to take it apart to see what is going on.
Thankyou❤
Your welcome
Nice
My tape measure is another brand, and when I opened it, a small metal v-shaped piece fell out. It was near the entry/exit of the tape housing. I cannot determine where to put this V shaped piece. . Can you advise me ?
TIA !
Unfortunately I’ve never come across that before so I also would not know where that goes. Sorry I couldn’t help.
Tip for another video: Do one were the spring must be shortened because the number of wraps needed to tighten jams the spring tight.
Good idea, thanks for commenting
Do spray a little bit of clear silicon to lubricate the spring so to allow less friction btw the coils.
Actually, I have never done that It sounds like it could be a good idea but I’d be afraid that it would cause more dirt to stick to the tape measure and get inside the workings
Thank you , would’ve thrown a perfectly good Stanley away .
your welcome
Why do I imagine Ray Romano is the one who's recording this?
I dont know but others have said that about me as well. thanks for commenting..
The center screw seemed to be missing and hard rubber cover wouldn’t come off its a 25 ft Boss can someone do one of those i wasn’t able to see any screws at back couldn’t get it apart
You need to take the protective cover off. It will slide back off opposite side of tape. Then you can get to the cover......
How about rubber measuring tape
How do you fix if the lock is no longer tight. My powerlock retracts by itself slowly even if locked. Thanks.
I am guessing that it is an older one and the tab that sits against the tape is worn out. It may have to be replaced. Good question.
@@shanesmaineshop Maybe take 2 broke one's and fix one?
@@jerrymccurry9372 Sometimes that does make sense in this case I was able just to repair this one all by itself. Thanks for commenting
Thank you 🥺🥺🥺😭😭❤️❤️❤️
Your very welcome
I can’t find tajima G lock 25 I can’t take off the rubber
I am facing issue that reversingly going out side
Interesting
You just saved me from an ass whooping
Well, I guess I’m glad I made the video for you then. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I’m glad you won’t have trouble sitting for the next few days. Lol
This is way too much work and I don’t have the tools my father is going to kill me😭
Oh no sorry to hear that wish I could help, I think if you tried hard enough you probably could get it done.
@@shanesmaineshop nah it’s all good man you helped a lot of others fix this problem
Take the belt clip and throw it in the trash. Those are for amatures.
Thanks for taking the time to comment
This doesn't work with $10 plastic crap ones, regardless of the name brand.
This is the second time. I'm not buying DeWalt anymore. Every time this s*** happens I lose money.
Okay but mine just spins anothet side
It may actually be broken, not just loose
You made me brake mine😭😭😭😭😭
I did not make you do anything, hope you were able to fix it. Thanks for commenting
.
Nothing worked my tape measure is from Dollarama not dollar tree dollar store I live in Chestermere Canada exist
I’m sorry you were not able to get your tape measure fixed sometimes they are beyond repair. Thanks for taking the time to comment
WTF. Just buy a new tape measure. They are like $10. If you can't afford a $10 tape measure, you have bigger issues.
If you want to throw it away and buy a new one that’s your business, some people like to repair things. Thanks for commenting.
