- there is lot to explore in rFactor 2 but after driving it for five days and jump in different cars out of all sims I drive for years, Assetto Corsa Competizione , iRacing , Race Room , Automobilista 2 , LFS , AC the tire models of this sim in combination with the Force Feedback and rotation of the car under trial braking and acceleration out of the corner plush the tricky curbs create the best driving experience for me personally!
and I just discover a car from my favorite ever BTCC championship !

Rf2 was the first sim I tried when I got a pc, being on xbox for years it literally blew me away all other sims I've tried just fall short. The ffb and physics model just feel right
haven't fired up RFactor 2 in a while, but your making me do it tonight. Brands Hatch is my favorite track and BTCC is the class I like to run. Thanks for reminding me why I love sim racing on RFactor 2. Easy on the eyes and the road feel was better than even AC IMO. Just the tires felt "weird". Haven't tried it since the update, but I just might have to take a break from upping my iRating
RFactor 2 is second to none in terms of force feedback, there just isn't another sim that gives you the same feeling in the tires, it's so dynamic, so alive. The UI is just still a bit of a mess, it feels like a game that expects you to know where to find everything in terms of settings, it's not RIDICULOUSLY hard, but it's significantly more complicated to set up a race weekend with the AI than any other sim right now, its content is A LITTLE more organized nowadays and it's great that you join races with cars you don't own now for sure. Online multiplayer is better with LFM but online capabilities are still unstable as we saw on Virtual Le Mans, but the inability to create a championship offline, the AI behavior being super weird, especially over curbs (very hard to get through a single race without a car being flipped over for simply going over a curb), and just how poorly optimized the game is because SO much can go wrong every time you fire it up makes for a decent albeit frustrating driving experience. When it's working, it's great, but the problem is it isn't nearly problem free enough considering how long it's been out and how long they've had to iron these things out.
I was thinking the same two nights before trying to lunch the game and just didn’t start at all!
Today it crashed several times ones I start tweaking the weather!
It really surprised me how after so long time have this mess.
I have to test so many things and the driving itself is what’s keeps me so engaged as it really is amazing 💪
@@chepilevski I work full time and I have a 5 year old kid. My sim time for practicing, league races and some official iRacing races or maybe 1 or 2 on ACC have to happen in a window of 2 hours a day for like 4 days a week. So I have around 8 hours in total a week to enjoy my hobby and I always feel that I'd rather spend it practicing or enjoying a race than just fiddling around to try to get rFactor 2 to work. It's beyond me how the company can't see that fixing their usability will skyrocket the user base since almost everyone agrees it's one of the best feeling and ffb sims out there. Nobody cares about graphics, fix the damn UI and get it to work every time like other titles out there.

The set ups are a dumbed down version of Race 07 and the FF is not as good either on my g27 might be better on a direct drive wheel . The game has a lot of promise but a long way to go especially with the pits area

That's why I am carefully enthusiastic for the new Le Mans Ultimate sim, it can give new life to this wonderfull Rfactor 2 engine.

Every time I join an online race I can see a yellow cube in place of the the corresponding car. Put 10 IA and the game just lags with CPU hit 100%

I agree with you. I spent a lot of hours in ACC with a simcube 2 pro well tunned. I thought I had a good simulator feeling until I discovered rFactor2. One of the things I like more in comparison with ACC when you notice the grip in the front wheels due to the downforce in the car. If someone reading this comment haven´t try it yet... go ahead you will enjoy it! :D
I love Rf2 but have been thinking about giving ACC a go especially as its on sale, however I'm torn between using that money for the GT3 DLC for Rf2 instead. I'm more interested in the feeling over the visual and as someone who knows ACC well any advice you could please offer would be greatly appreciated
Acc def not the best sim if you think about driving experience, car handling and ffb

Done over 1,000 hours in rF2 (which is nothing in comparison to what others have done). And 99% of that is offline.
Its just such a compelling driving experience thay its hard to go to anything else. And, its made massive strudes forward in the last few years.
People who moan about the UI...it was WAY WORSE before. Its a bloody joy now in comparison.
Not saying everything is perfect, my god, theres some stupidity, but i love a challenge and i love investigating and tweaking.
I almost gave up on this sim. I couldn’t get it to feel right with the sc2pro I sat in my garden room from 8am till 430am messing with settings wow mate I love it!!! I do keep having the odd crashes etc but when it runs right boy dose it go show how good sim racing can feel 👌
You finaly tried this incredible title 😍 it's been years that I had a crush on this Sim and I was surprise that you were not already on it !
Still the best FFB and physics ever, but the UI and multiplayer is killing me 😮💨
What we need in SimRacing is simple : rF2 physics + iRacing Multi + BeamNG Damage model = Perfect Sim 😁👍

I started doing rfactor 2 about 6 months ago. Was great then they did a new physics update a couple months ago for gt3 and cars were almost undrivable. They have it fixed now thankfully. Def a great sim

I own RF2 from 2016, and I got more than 4000h on it and I'm a bit ashamed to say that I got very few issues with it in all these years. Only once I needed to reinstall from scratch to overcome an issue (stuck to 70% loading a track).
I use it only for online races, almost never use offline because I have a team with our own server to test cars and tracks. But as far as I know, if you use it for offline racing against AI you need to let the AI "train" to drive on the track so, no 5min practice, 5min quali, then a race because you risk to have AI massive crash, brake really early, maybe go pit.
Also you need to set only black flag, in event options, no SC, no FCY othewise you get a messed up experience. So at least 20min/30min practice, 10min qualy, the at least a 10 lap race I think it could be good. I repeat myself I'm not used to offline so this could be not enought.
Online race is RF2 top experience. You can fight wheel to wheel with no ghost contacts (provided that you and others have a good ping) and now with LFM if you live in Europe you can have some fun online race.
Yes it's difficult to set all things up, you need to know a few things about setups and the behavior of a car and what to do to correct bad behavior in a car, you need to take care of your tyres otherwise after three laps you are a sitting duck. But you can find much help in RF2 discord and in LFM discord. Just ask question politely and on "topic".
BTW some AMD video cards don't like RF2 (or vice versa)

Try the historic spa with the 1955 endurance cars and it feels like you are feeling every little pebble on the road in a way on,y such a vintage car can make you feel.

You need a good wheelbase however.
I couldn’t really feel it as good with my fanatec DD1, but since I have a Simucube 2 pro it’s blowing me away completely!
Rotation of the car with the throttle is still the thing that differentiates rF2 from all other sims, as they lack it, IMO.
AC has rotation of the car with the brake, but they miss the throttle part.

I don't entirely agree. With Assetto Corsa, while it's not possible with all cars, especially the less motorsports focused ones. It is still a characteristic you can tune into the more motorsports oriented cars which allow you to adjust the suspension, brake balance, and differential and dampers. You are able to get rotation on the throttle when these variables are properly adjusted in the setup of the car. You can even get this in some of the road cars that don't enable adjustment of these variables in the setup by turning off the cars traction control.
RF Engine has a long history of being licensed out in different iterations including an RFPro which has been used in those big expensive testing simulators for auto manufacturers and racing teams. I don't know all the details or which parts are incorporated into RF2 etc. But if you look around the web you will find that at least some of RFPro is supposed to be integrated in RF2 . Might explain why it feels so good compared to a lot of the competition.

Sometimes the game crashes to Windows drivers me crazy but the driving experience is second to none 😮

I can say that you aren't late with rFactor 2. You started at the right time. You need to try LFM when you can. It is definitely a life saver for rF2. Also, the servers are being fixed and theese weird crashing bugs are being investigated and trying to be squished by S397. So good timing. And soon S397 will release their Le Mans Ultimate sim and there will be another sim later or sooner that will come out, which is Rennsport. So a very exciting year for Sim Racing!

I had zero crashes while racing with the right amd drivers in 1000 hours. I had way more glitches in other sims because of the netcode. And most bugs are gone now.
I really cannot understand, why people don't accept, that a sim that allows mods is way more complex than other sims. And if it allows modding, it allows the host of a server to do mistakes, too.
Yes: It's not as easy as ACC to get into it, but other sims like AC and iracing are as complicated as rf2 to start the first time in my opinion.

I needed full guide from someone at the time and things haven’t changed at all the last 12 years even with the new UI
ACC is probably simpler and AMS2 is as complex as this one !
In my opinion is just different and people feel unfamiliar but I set it without any help so must be simple enough!
Then I hope, you will have the same 'stable experiences' as i have with rf2 in the future. It's simply amazing and I cannot go back to other sims because of the immersion that rf2 gives me.
Looking forward to the new competition System in the next months. I hope they will bring a good user experience with this update.

RBM, I still only own a G29, not being the richest person on the planet, hahaha. But for me, one of the most "realistic" feeling sim races I ever had, was in the rF2 FORMULA VEE.
Mind you, this was about 2 years ago - but give that vehicle a try also if you enjoy open-wheelers as well. As the feeling thru the front wheels even on my G29, was just awesome... [;]-)

Finally someone talking the truth about this great sim 😍😍😍 so under rated but defiantly the best imo, shame about the online multiple in terms of finding races. You need ideally to be in a league but s397 have said a huge change is coming 🤞
They have make big job this 2 last years, new UI, racing vs unowned content , new IA who still need some adjustements. And they are working on lnline stability. I’ve been playing online open and endurance champ since 1 years without any issues

Sure, we have to wait a few week/month for the new compétition system, but for me it’s more plesant to drive in leagues with respectfull drivers
Great video! Yes the BTCC cars are great fun, have a go at the FWD ones they’re awesome too. RF2 has great FFB no doubt, but do your self a favour and after a few weeks of RF2 go back to the original AC, you will then see/remember which sim is the king of FFB. There is no other sim that gives you the same feel and controllability of car right on the limit as the original AC. There just isn’t.

RF2 ffb is so good itll make a budget wheel feel like something more expensive. My first wheel was a thrustmaster tmx and nothing made that cheap starter wheel shine like RF2

Ah yes, on it’s own I don’t like the graphics too! They are way too blue and the picture bit washed !
Someone suggested to use Reshade software and I just tweaked the black levels and saturation down!
That software do some magic!
Those graphics have huge potential and in the beginning I’ve also said they are not very good but they actually are!
There are plenty of videos about reshade on CZcams and in my opinion the program is very intuitive and easy to use !

It is a kind of self defense actually, where you fight for your life, to not end ind the wall. And if the game is good your instinct automatically takes over and when you save it, it really releases some endorphines and sometimes boost your selfesteem and can lead to a few overtakes in the next couple of laps, because you go to beast mode - a bit dramatic but you know what i mean 😆

Welcome to the Dark side 😂... Originally couldn't get it to run on my setup and steam download took hours , sat in library for months then after a graphics card upgrade tried again and like you cannot believe the feeling through the wheel !

My mix will be AMS2-ACC graphics- iRacing online services and outside animation of the cars as in iRacing TV cam cars looks the most realistic in movement around the road and rF2 Tires and FFB
That will really be ultimate experience on all different levels 😃

For some reason I expected to be easier because I’ve heard is controllable beyond the limits but is not easy at all 😁
@@chepilevski tonight there is a 30 min race on Sebring in the competition system at 21h CEST ( you need to own Ferrari 488 gte and Sebring ). Registration starts 30 min before if I remember well. Fixed setup. My first steps on the game were very difficult but I insisted. Tyres are hard to manage on a 60 min race, you fight against yourself more than against the others drivers not to commit the fault. Car is hard to save and damages render the car undrivable the most of time.Need to be very careful ont the throttle in corner exit.
Next thing you'll probably love in rF2 - how race progress and ends up, depending on car or how people work with tires ;)

It is the faster way as a line itself for closing the lap by 0.010 which doesn’t worth much but is already habit I have for years !
In close racing is also better line to not live the door open too! Mostly habit buddy 🤛
You should try the Porsche Cup (992)… it‘s the best car you can drive at the moment in Simracing!

Literally just deleted RF2 again! I have a love hate relationship with this sim - when it works it s great. But today, I had random races at 22fps and sound that just kept switching off (as well as crashes to desktop). Rage delete was the resultant end point. It’ll be back, as it always is.

It's something curious. I've had it installed for 4 years now. I've had zero crashes and it always starts, except one time when I had incompatible mods installed. I don't use Windows, it's installed on Linux. It's hard to believe we're talking about the same game.
Rfactor 2 and Assetto Corsa have the best force feebcak in the industry IMO.

@@SackyX I respect that mate, it's just that I've recently come back to AMS1 after a couple of years, and I'm blown away by the FFB and vehicle handling. With VR mod it has become my all time favorite sim. And I was a die-hard fan of rF2.
Now you've been convinced about rf2, come and join us online in the HSO gold star 1954 series for respectful racers.😀. Plenty of power, zero downforce, tyre feeling essential.

You have to try, perhaps with an lmp2, the 24h of le mans (it's the right time) perhaps concentrated in 3 hours, how the dynamics of the track change according to the weather and temperature.

Hey buddy, it took me few hours to find all the settings and start driving car on the track but that’s because I was not familiar with the software at all! I managed that without help so must be intuitive enough!

Hey buddy, I haven’t attached the SC2 for quite some time but I will go for reconstruction filter 3 and damping/friction 0 as this sim creates somehow stickiness in rotation!
The rest will be just like the iRacing suggested settings from true drive !
What are your FFB settings ? Both for your wheel and in-game?
The problem with RFactor is that the positives end with the physcis

I think the FFB in RF2 is the best of any sim and RBM is 100% correct

I buy me the M4 GT3 in Race Room, it makes so much fun to drive it on the Tracks. What are your Graphics settings in R2? On my PC it looks not so good as yours:) ( PC: Rtx 3060,Ryzen 7,32GB Ram)THX 4 the Very Good Video :)
I think it mostly comes down to physics (or ffb, not sure which it is) refresh rate, and of course, tyre model. But the refresh rate of 2400Hz is what gives that lively feeling when you feel every move and slip. Closest is ACC with only 333Hz if I'm not mistaken. Low refresh rate driving feels like playing shooter with 15 fps. Bumpy tracks and Nordschleife especially feel bad in other sims after rF2.
Unrelated question: what would be a correct FOV for a 49" G9, sitting at around 60 cm away?
According to your recommendation, i used a FOV calculator with 54cm distance at it recommended 32° VFOV. After digging some more, i found someone saying that because of the screen curvature, you should add 10° to the 32°...
Any thoughts?

Just gave it a go lately, and after falling in love with the tire feeling, i discovered that its pretty much the only thing i love on rfactor2 🤣 tires feel great and forgiving on the limit, but thats it. Sometimes they are a bit too forgiving, which makes the fastes driving style just throwing the car into the corner with unrealistically high steering angles and weird setup exploits. Also there are simple functions missing like the „shift horizon“ function to make triple screens aligned properly (when having your monitors higher or lower than eyelevel).
Driving aggressive in rF2 is much faster compared to pussy footing around and trying to be TOO smooth and precise... BUT... once you are good enough to get a fast lap driving over the limit, you will find more time by then reining it back by a few percent and being smooth. It is a very fine line, and that is where the true skill lies.
You can shift the horizon buddy!
It is in the camera settings you choose button in combination with shift!
@@chepilevski not really, i have found just tilt, fov, height and seat forward and backward. But no shift horizon :( at least i cant find it anywhere, maybe i am just being stupid haha

That is SSRG wheel but the company doesn’t produce those anymore 🙈
@@chepilevski The buttonplate is definitely from Johan (SSRG), but the rim is not from Sportline (that's the rims Johan uses) I think the rim is a SRS GT300 (several branding are possible like Densu or Runsco). Please correct me if i'm wrong.

How did the fov settings compare to the other sims?
I have a challenge for you. BeamNG I created a off road Trophy Truck scenario called Rage at the Valley. It is the most challenging sim racing content I have ever tried. If you can complete the run in under 17:00 minutes I will superchat you $25. Default truck configuration with no mods. 🤑

The BTCC cars in Iracing imo feel horrible. They have this horrible bouncing around the centre of the steering and the steering wheel recentring feels so off but RD2 feels so good. Also the sound of that car is incredibly good. Where dp you take the sound from? Directly to your go pro or in room speakers. Sounds incredible even the tire noises sound amazing.
In my opinion the BTCC cars in rfactor 2 are one of the best simulated cars ever.
I use to race with Ash Sutton for years on iRacing with the Kia Optima and he was super happy with that car but he don’t like the TCR much 🫢
That BTCC BMW on rF2 sounds so good bro 😱 absolutely brutal particularly on low gears with the screaming differential 😃
I usually record the sound in OBS and then sync in post !

@@chepilevski not sure I wrote that correctly lol. I was saying BTCC in RF2 are amazing but in Iracing I wasn't impressed at all they have this weird centring feeling in iracing I couldn't get used too but in Rfactor 2 they feel amazing. Glad you decided to give it a try.

Today I put the smoothness to almost zero just 3 clicks from the absolute 0
Interpolation to 4 and damping/friction zero too!
It still feels like butter with the ultimate

I like rfactor 2 but I can’t even start the game and don’t know why. I tried reinstalling but when I press play the sim will start up and immediately close before even the startup screen.
