    This happened to Rhinox not once, but twice.
    The first time, Megatron inverted his morality, turning him into a Predacon. This worked a little too well, as he started taking down the Predacons from within.
    Beast Machines saw his spark get removed from his body and his personality overwritten, turning him into Tankor. However, even after Primal managed to undo Megatron's influence, Rhinox remained an enemy this time.

One of the many backstories for the G1 Constructicons with the whole Crystal City thing. Glitch becoming Tarn and Dominus Ambus becoming the pet in IDW 1.0. Wasp and Black Arachnia from Animated. Just kinda funny that almost anytime a Transformer is switching to the good or evil alignment, they HAVE to be associated with Autobots and Decepticons respectively, like the factions are the objective extremes on the morality scale.
    I get it though it helps for marketing, but groups like the Mercenaries striking out on their own or the former Bots/Cons who became Non-Aligned Indigenous Lifeforms in IDW add another layer of depth to the conflict I think, among other things like Sentinel Prime usually being a nasty Autobot

    • @2bdaqueen268

    • @devinhamb6586
      @devinhamb6586 Před 22 dny

      @@2bdaqueen268 I...can see were your coming from with that. The NAILs were being EXTREMELY judgmental along with Metalhawk towards the bots & cons. But I'm also looking at it from their perspective a bit. I think a main reason why a lot of the NAILS are like this towards the 2 factions is because of the impact the war had on the universe. I said this in another comment sec, but even though the war ended, the cybertronians became an extremely hated race due to the war. Autobot and Decepticon alignment be dammed. I think a majority of the NAILS faced immense prejudice and discrimination from other races due to the war. So this is probably them taking out their frustrations on the 2 factions, the bots especially.

    Something that sticks out to me about the Prime Orion Pax thing is that when you stop to think about it, it in no way works: whether you look at it as the Prime cartoon, the WFC game or the Exodus novel the Alligned continuity establishes that Orion Pax doesn't get the matrix until long into the war, in the case of the cartoon this is literally established in the same episode. Optimus losing the Matrix should have robbed him of his memories of earth, and maybe some of his allies, but he should be well aware of Megatron and the Decepticons, for that matter he should recognize Bumblebee, since at least the game and book show them meeting before this (in the book Bumblebee actually accompanied Optimus to the core)

  • @AerialConvoy
    @AerialConvoy Před rokem +37

    Just FYI, the way the whole Hot Shot/Wheeljack dynamic went down is quite different in Micron Legend (The original Japanese sub of Armada) compared to Armada.
    As opposed to what Armada did, something that was particularly grim and morbid about this arc in Micron Legend that was completely dumbed down was that Hot Rod/Hot Shot did actually abandon Rampage/Wheeljack to die out of cowardice and fear for his own life, and Hot Rod telling Rampage that he was going to get help was nothing but an excuse (Instead of how Armada shows Hot Shot leaving Wheeljack in the fire, promising to get help at face value, so Wheeljack's hatred of Hot Shot looks like wrongful resentment)
    In fact, Hot Shot doesn't even try to help Rampage until his superiors tell him they're not sending any rescue. Hot Rod eventually realizes that abandoning Rampage was a terrible idea but at that point, it's too late. (This sets up Rampage's grudge against Hot Rod when it's revealed that he has been saved by Megatron, and swore loyalty towards the Decepticons as a gift to Megatron for saving his life)
    It's an easily missed difference (Especially if you never watched Micron Legend), but I like how this difference in Micron Legend does give Hot Rod a greater failure to overcome, and the outcome for this where Hot Rod swore to never repeat it again when his current trainee, Stepper (aka Side Swipe in Armada) suffers and almost dies due to his own past mistakes. Rather than running away again, Hot Rod actually stays and is willing to save Stepper; Refusing to let down his current trainee in the same way he failed his former trainee I find to be more satisfying in Micron Legend. I had no idea if such changes came from accidental mistranslation or a conscious simplification of the narrative and dialogue's nuance, but in my opinion, the omission of such a vital detail in this arc in Armada is a huge mistake.

      @Bucket-the-lizard Před 2 měsíci

      I respectfully disagree with the idea that it removes nuance in Armada because in both Micron Legends and Armada they are both pretty realistic reactions to have, even if they are in different ways.
      Obviously, you went into why it works in Micron Legends, so I'll just stick with Armada.
      Wheeljack's resentment is very much misguided but you can understand it, he didn't know that Hotshot was coming back for him, he didn't know that Hotshot was telling the truth, all he knew was that Hotshot didn't come back. How would you feel in that situation? To him it looks like he was left to die, why wouldn't he feel angry and hurt at the fact that to him it looked like he was left to die? Emotions aren't rational at times especially relating to moments/accidents like that as the mind has a weird way of processing things and sometimes it just needs something or someone to blame in situations like this, even if it's misguided.
      Now, Hotshot, survivor's guilt is a real thing. It has a name for a reason, the idea that it was "dumbed" down because it was done differently is kind of insensitive. Feeling guilt over a loved one's death when it was out of your control is very much a real thing. Again, it may not be rational at the same time, again, it's just something the mind does in situations like this to blame the closest thing even if it's misguided.
      Now, I can get being annoyed at the fact stuff was changed and having a personal preference(I personally prefer Armada's version in this case as it just personally resonates with me more and hits a bit too close to home for me). At the same time, that doesn't make one worse or better then the other because they were done differently. There are cases where Armada did make changes or took out things from Micron Legends that did make it worse, this is not one of those cases though.

    Tow-line wasn't the only character that Japanese G1 timeline retroactively changed, they changed Smokescreen as well. For awhile I thought Japan did it to Prime Knockout where Japan's toyline of RID15 had him all evil but if you think about it, season 3 never did air in Japan, so him changing sides never happened.
    Transformers Animated had a fair share of characters that had a tragic backstories that led them to the Cons like Blackarachnia or Wasp.

    What you said about every series being in continuity with each other in Japan during the 2000s is not entirely true. The three Unicron Trilogy shows were always billed as a new separate universe from what all had come before them, even in Japan. At the time, there were only two major Transformers universes in Japan, the Japanese G1/G2/Beast Era universe and the Japanese Unicron Trilogy universe.
    As for RobotMasters Wrecker Hook, another lesser known reason for his joining the Decepticons is not just because of his amnesia, but because he was found on Earth by the Decepticons in a deactivated state (according to his profile in the RobotMasters encyclopedia). This suggests that, for reasons still unknown to this day, he was somehow deactivated and left for dead on Earth after the events of Car Robots, despite being last seen still alive and well by the end of that show.
    In the case of the Wings universe Combaticons, they were considered "renegade Decepticons" not because of their past as Autobots, but because of their having served Deathsaurus instead of Megatron. Megatron had them imprisoned because of their having served a dissenter.
    The name "Victory Bomber" was made up by Ask Vector Prime. The original toys of that two-part only named Stealth Saber, with the BB reissue unnamed.
    You forgot one of the EARLIEST cases of an Autobot going evil, and one who was an Evil Autobot instead of a Decepticon: FLAME! Flame from Marvel UK! "Flame (Marvel)" as he is currently known on TFWiki! That Autobot was an evil madman!

She used to be Elita 1 until an accident during a little trip to a spider planet with Optimus and Sentinel went horriblly wrong, both thought she was dead and Sentinel blamed Optimus for it (despite that it was HIS idea to be on the planet to begin with 😒)

    The most like easiest conversion was mud flap from cybertron I forgot who was talking to him might have been thundercracker but he was already (in the show) like impatient and a loose cannon really someone just told him like the decepticons don’t do any of the things the auto bots do and he like bet and changed his allegiance like that. Landmine didn’t like that too much and was shocked n stuff lol

    So... I'm going to avoid using characters who we never actually saw as Autobots or Maximals since we have no idea what their personalities would have originally been like if they weren't reprogrammed as Protoforms. I'm also going to avoid mentioning characters who temporarily wend villain just for an episode or two only to convert back to the heroic side by the end.
    So the Constructicons in the G1 Cartoon it was revealed that they were once friends with Omega Supreme before being reprogrammed to destroy rather than construct. Not sure how I really feel about counting this one since they were wearing Decepticon insignias even before they were supposedly reprogrammed and it contradicts another episode that claims they were built on Earth but worth at least mentioning.
    The first real instance of a heroic character being reprogrammed into villains and isn't a protoform or a one episode encounter is Silverbolt and Rhinox being turned into Jetstorm and Tankor respectivly.
    In Jetstorm's case it was temporary but I'm counting it because he was the primary antagonist for nearly the entire first season before he became Silverbolt again.
    Tankor even after recovering his memories as Rhinox CHOSE to remain a villain which is totally out of character for Rhinox and I hate that he just chose to stay a villain.
    Of course there's the Armada character who was mentioned at the beginning of the video who might be the first Autobot to CHOOSE to switch sides without being reprogrammed against his will.
    We got 2 in Animated with Blackarachnia and Waspinator.
    Blackarachnia was originally Elita-One until being attacked by a bunch of alien organic Spiders and being turned into what possibly was the first Technorganic Transformer in this universe. She only fell in with the Decepticons cause they rescued her after she was abandoned by Optimus and Sentinel who just assumed she was already dead. Optimus did make an attempt to go back for but the coward Sentinel was too chicken to deal with organics.
    Wasp was orginally an Autobot and was falsely accused of being a Decepticon spy. Shockwave was of course the actual spy being disgused as Longarm the whole time and planted the exidence for Bumblebee to find that got Wasp wrongly arrested for a crime he never comitted. Wasp then went insane in prison, escapted and tried to swap places with Bumblebee as revenge. Animated Waspinator's backstory is way more interesting and tragic than his BW name sake who just always was a Predacon.
    Anyway, technically since Wasp never sided with Megatron he never really was a Decepticon he was only ever falsy accused of being one.
    Oh and the Constructicons were originally friends with Bulkhead. They weren't really Autobots exactly although Scrapper was recruited by Sari when the main cast went missing durring a Soundwave 2 parter. But they weren't really Decepticons either till they offically joined Megatron and got branded with those insignias.
    Wild Wheel who was mentioned in the video.
    In the War for Cybertron video game it actually seemed like Starscream and the Seekers were good guys working with Jetfire and the Airealbots to protect the station that produced Dark Energon. Megatron was only able to access the dark Energon by convincing Starscream to join his side. Of course Starscream would quickly seek to overtrow Megatron as leader soon after joining the Decepticons.

    Huh, that Wrecker Hook thing is a lot like BW Silverbolt but in reverse, where Silverbolt's basic heroic nature meant he was a poor fit for the Predacons who found him.
