I kinda relate to Bea D. cuz I'm a first-year college in CS and I am also having doubts because My first choice was civil engineering cuz I want to follow my dads' footstep as an engineer, but after some thought processing parang napagdesisyunan ko na this is what I have chosen and I have to prove myself that this is the right path, I wanted to finish what I have started.

My mother wants me to become a civil engineer because of money and I don't know what to do or what I want at the moment, so I just went along saying “I want to be become an engineer”. Then I kept fiddling with the internet like the usual and eventually found something that piqued my interest.
At first I wanted to be a digital artist but I don't think I could financially support my family, then programming came to mind. I'm taking it as my second hobby for now, but it fits my the requirements for my goal.
Sa totoo parepareho lang halos lahat ng subjects mapa BSIT, BSCS, BSCP, BSCE, may konting pagkakaiba lang, at kahit ano sa apat na yan masakit sa ulo, kung ComSci ka this is more on Codes and Algorithms at may konting pggng developer, just like Programming, kung BSIT ka this more on troubleshooting of software and hardware, Kung BSCE ka naman this is more on developing jan naka center ang isang BSCE sa pag buo ng website, pero kung pagkukumparahin niyo halos parepareho lang naman yan, Kung BSCS ka focus ka sa Algorithms at Codes ganon din ang BSCP, at Kung BSIT more on troubleshooting pero hindi ka naman makakapag troubleshooting kung hnd ka nakakaintindi ng codes at algorithms, ganon din kung BSCE ka hnd ka makakabuo ng websites at any applications kung hnd ka nakakaintindi ng codes at algorithms at fomulas, halos parepareho lang silang may Alam sa bawat subjects ng kursong kinukuha nila pero may kanya kanyang center kung saan nka focus yung kursong yun. Talagang Hindi po biro kumuha ng computer courses kahit po anong Computer Courses masakit talaga sa ulo. Nong panahon ko hindi ka makakagraduate ng comsci kung Wala kang mabuong applications or program na maiprepresent, diskarte muna anong apps yun office programs, games, websites. I choose office programs for encoders yung parang ganon sa LBC may barcode, may database, at my apps kung saan sila mag eencode, I am BSCS from Lipa City Colleges, graduate in year 2017.

nice insight, creating something out of nothing/notepad (cs grad here & 5 years in the industry). Madaming field at specialization na pwede ka pag-pilian pag nabored ka sa isa. Could be solid development, designing, hardware/infrastructure, project/business management, machine learning , AI and etc.. You're on the right track. Job satisfaction, fair compensation, high respect, praise and recognition from your colleague (depending on your skills). Kung passionate ka magsolve at magprovide ng improvement sa mga bagay bagay para sayo ang kursong ito :D

Same experience hahah after senior high, hindi ko na alam yung program na kukunin ko :
Mula elementary pangarap ko na talaga maging Seaman, tapos nabigla nalang ako nung pag SHS ko GAS strand pa tapos nung graduation, dun ko nalang nalaman na di pala ko papasa sa medical test, kaya no choice yung buhay ko napunta nalang sa Computer Science nakaka lito lang talaga parang wala sa mood matuto hays
now lang ako nag you tube uli. di ko pa na open email.. mag email na lang ulit ako. thanks.
Same experience. HAHA kala ko sure na ako regards sa course na kukuhain ko, and when the results came out na nakapasok ako sa mga qualified students sa BSCS, nagdadalawang isip pako regards kung itutuloy ko ba ang pagkuha ng CS or not. And until now nagiisip parin ako. And this video help me to pursue CS even more (kahit pa 100% sure HAHAH)

I'm about to choose between two courses. I like CS but it's success is like tossing a coin either fail or success. While the IT will give me stable life even if it is not my dream. Not too much, but not low salary. It is based on my countrymen opinion tho. It is between my future or my dream. Pilipino here.

One thing po, malalaman mo kung para sayo yung course na kinuha mo if sinubukan muna, wag kang matakot subukan, kung fail ang resulta hindi ibig sabihin na bobo ka o tanga, ibig sabihin po non either hindi fit sayo yung course na kinuha mo, or hindi talaga para sayo yung course na yun, ako puro ComSci Graduate po ako at aminado ko puro 3.00 at 2.75 grades ko halos bihira ka magkita ng 1 sa TOR ko but still naka Graduate ako. So ganon lang try lang banat lang ng banat at wag ka matakot at wag mo isipin yung stress kasi talaga pong nakakastress kahit na anong computer courses.

I used to be Comsci during mu freshmen year. Sadly i didn't finished it. Naghihinayang ako sana tinapos ko but then i have multiple diploma in computer studies but then gusto ko pa rin maging ComSci or IT at my age @41.

Just curious... do companies in the Philippines look for college diplomas of candidates for dev jobs? I wonder if a dev who is self-taught and has extensive experience (gained from Freelancing, Volunteering, or Contractual) can land a job at new companies..

Yes, if you want to take that career path. You can be a software engineer, android app developer, data scientist, etc. :)

Honestly, di ko sure kasi wala akong experience sa ICT but sa STEM naman useful siya dahil sa math part if walang specialisation 🙂

I enter in private school without any idea in using a Computer. Tapos kinuha Kung course computer science haha hirap tlga tas nag self study lng tlga katulong mo , pero kahit my Alam n ako as programming psrang Hindi ako masaya sa career which is sa Field .

Dude Ganito yan BSCS vs. BSCP vs. BSCE vs. BSIT halos lahat ng kursong yan halos same ng subjects may mga konting pagkakaiba lang pero lahat sila may Alam sa HTML, CCS, at lahat sila Developer hahahaha. Nalilito kana ba lalo. Iba iba lang sila ng focus at more on na ginagawa.
