    Alhamdulillah; finally I got the difference between tonic clonic and myoclonic seizures

  • @maihassan2725
    @maihassan2725 Před rokem +8

    what i've learned from this video:
    1- if it's the first seizure to the patient no treatment is needed
    2-if there's history of previous seizures, ask the patient whether he's taking his medications or not, are the seizures getting worse , are the seizures lasting longer and if there's any evident that would cause seizure as infection
    3- ask the patient for basic labs as serum electrolytes, glucose level, CBC, magnesium, LFTs and toxicology
    3- ask for ECG
    4- once metabolic and toxic causes are ruled out ask for CT and MRI
    5- once imaging has ruled out space occupying lesion ask lumbar puncture
    6- last thing do EEG
    7- if the patient had grand mal seizure the first line of choice in treatment is sodium valproate , the second line of treatment is topiramate and lamotigine
    8- dose of sodium valproate is 10mgkg/day to 60mgkg/day in 2-3 divided doses
    9- myoclonic or atomic seizures , valproic acid is the treatment of choice

      Patient is asked to stay awake for longer duration than his or her normal sleep. Then eeg is performed. Sleep deprivation induces stress on brain and if there is underlying epileptic activity in brain cells it becomes evident.
