  • Hello Drum Nerds, hopefully you're well. Welcome to the Iron Maiden - Aces High 【NEMOPHILA】 DRUMMER REACTS video. I must say it was a pleasure to watch although I would like to know more about the issue with hearing a snare during one of the tom rolls.
That aside, these gals are clearly very talented and know their way around both their designated instruments but also the song as well. Total musicianship is clearly shown and Tamu is a force behind the kit.
Original video here - • Iron Maiden / Aces Hig...
Thanks for all the support as always and be well.
Keep your stick on the ice,
    Colin

Ai Murata (stage name Murata Tamu, or Tamu for short) fall in love with drums since her high school days and now a mother of two, the love became stronger. She is on top of her game as a solo drummer and the most sought-after drummer for fill-in role in Japan for years. She is a multi-instrumentalist, play drums, piano, keyboards, bass, guitar, xylophone and saxophone. She had been on the scene for over 10 years before she got together with her 'sisters' forming NEMOPHILA.
In 2007, she started as jazz drummer at the early age of 15 in high school and received guidance from a very well established session drummer, Masahiko Noguchi at Saila Drum School (now Tamu is also one of the lecturers at that school).
Tamu continue her drumming activities after graduated from high school and in 2013 she joined a girls band SORAMIMI as a drummer.
She graduate from university in 2015, the same year she won the best female drummer award in the voting project My Goddess 2015 by BEEAST - Living with Rock, Lifestyle Support Magazine. In the same voting project that year, SAKI, guitarist from Mary's Blood and her soon-to-be band mate that time, won the best female guitarist award category.
In 2016, SORAMIMI released an album that includes the song 'Parallel Line', which is the first song composed and written by Murata Tamu. She also signed her first endorsement contract with TAMA Japan that year. She is using TAMA Silverstar (Jet Blue Burst). SORAMIMI was suspended in March 2017.
Year 2017 was a time when her carrier in drumming started to pick up drastically. She held her first drum solo performance in February 2017 and it was a completely sold-out solo drumming concert at the TSUTAYA O-Crest live music venue.
In April 2017, she joined a project led by Takeshi Kuramochi and Daisuke Kurosawa for INSPION Inc., a corporate sound production company providing music for games and TV programs. Among their prominent clients are CAPCOM, Cygames, Square Enix, SEGA, Nippon Television Network Corporation, BANDAI NAMCO Studios Inc. and many more. She is still an active staff member of INSPION Inc. until now (2022). She also released her self-produced DVD titled Murata Tamu's Hyper Drum Training.
In May 2017, she held her second solo live concert at TSUTAYA O-West and invited Japan's infamous drummer, Nyango Star as her guest. She appeared again at the same venue in September 2017 to mark the release of her self-produced EP titled INNOCENT with four original songs, one of which she also sings.
In July 2017, she was announced as the best in female drummer award category again for the voting project My Goddess 2017 of BEEAST magazine award. She appeared in NAONのYAON (female's outdoor stage - yearly event organized by legendary Japanese all female metal band SHOW-YA) every year since 2017. She was also one of the prominent drummers in SAKI's World Guitar Girls Collection (WGGC) project.
She is very active with drum seminars at vocational schools and musical instrument stores; and Drum Clinic Tour in China. She is also the drummer support for idol group The World Standard (WASUTA), Nanase Aikawa, Rie a.k.a Suzaku and many other successful artists. She regularly appeared on the national music information TV 'MUSIC BB'.
In August 2017, she launched a CZcams channel Tamu Zukan where she invites, learns, explores other drummers' skill set and also about various musical instruments.
In January 2018, Tama Drumsticks H-TMTM, Murata Tamu signature model hits the market. In March 2018, she appeared as a guest drummer for Naka-Kon event (Kansas City, USA), an annual convention celebrating anime, manga, cosplay, music, fashion and gaming. She held another live concert at TSUTAYA O-West in May 2018 to commemorate the release of her double-sided A-side single "Super D & D-Completely Lead Imai Me / D Absolutely! SAMURAI in the Rain" featuring Ladybeard, former vocalist of Deadlift Lolita and Ladybaby, who is now lead vocalist of BABYBEARD.
In mid 2018, she held her 5th installment of her solo live concerts at two venues, OSAKA MUSE and Shibuya WWW-X, celebrating her entering into 10 years of professional drumming.
By 2019, she already had 6 live solo concerts under her belt with the latest one was held in January 2019 at TSUTAYA O-West again.
In August 2019, she was invited to perform in Mayu Session band by vocalist, Mayu and bassist, Haraguchi-san who were high school friends and just quit their bands, LIPSTICK and HöLDERLINS respectively. At that time, they were still looking for guitarist and mayu contacted SAKI (Mary's Blood & AMAHIRU guitarist, ex-Destrose) through mutual friend. SAKI then introduced Hazuki (Disqualia guitarist) to the rest of the band since Disqualia activities was put on hold and Hazuki that time only supporting RAMI and Li-sa-X project as a session guitarist (later in 2020, Li-sa-X Band was formed with Hazuki as permanent member). Tamu, SAKI and Hazuki already knew each other since Tamu is the drummer for SAKI's WGGC project and Hazuki is one of the guitarist in WGGC, but they never played together in a proper band setup.
Mayu Session band performed at live venue and they hits off immediately eventhough its the first time they played together and some members didn't know each other before. They had lots of fun together and thought this is what they are looking for individually - technical superiority asides, a tight band and fun friends. So after that one session ends, they decided to stay together and make their quintet permanent, which is now known as the NEMOPHILA.
In September 2019, she announced in her social media "I became a drummer of NEMOPHILA. Thanking you in advance. I'm glad I met some nice friends and I'll hit them with my soul." ...and she did hit them hard as the band grew tighter every day, in line with the growth of their local and international fan base. In October 2019, Tamu signed another endorsement contract with MEINL cymbals.
SAKI, the leader of the band and also the composer for Mary's Blood said she and the composer team write songs for NEMOPHILA too and pass the midi to other members for input but Tamu, being the most experienced member of the band write the drums notation by herself. She got much respect from SAKI even before WGGC & NEMOPHILA since both of them top their categories in 2015 BEEAST goddess award and Tamu did it again in 2017. All NEMOPHILA songs drums notations are Tamu's original works.
Entering 2020, NEMOPHILA announced Japan tour schedule for that year and but was cancelled due to pandemic. They managed to perform one show in February 2020 at Shibuya REX but not featuring all NEMOPHILA line-ups because Tamu was on maternity leave. Tamu had always been called up to fill in for drummers' absence but on her absence, NEMOPHILA called in the legendary drummer Miki 'mittan' Tsunoda of SHOW-YA (all-female metal band - legendary status as one of the best-selling Japanese metal bands in history) who was more than happy to make an appearance that day covering for Tamu.
In the lockdown period, Tsunoda also seen paying respect to Tamu during her time-off giving birth. Tsunoda appeared in NEMOPHILA line ups again supporting them covering two SHOW-YA songs, taking the drummer's place while honouring Tamu by wearing the frog t-shirt which is Tamu's trademark shirt. Another legendary drummer did the same was Kyoko Tomita of Princess Princess (all-female pop/rock band, known for their 7th single 'Diamonds' - first ever single in Japan that hits over millions sales) while NEMOPHILA did their cover song. A respect from legendary Japanese drummers really shows how big Tamu reputation is.
She played in Roland/BOSS Players Summit 2020 to wrap up Roland's Junior Drums Competition in which she was one of the judges that time. She is also using Roland V-Drums TD series at home.
In 2021, she took part in NAONのYAON officially as NEMOPHILA. Gacharic Spin also took part in that event but their drummer Yuri was on maternity leave. Levin, the drummer of La'cryma Christi was covering Yuri's place that time but since NAONのYAON is dedicated to only female artists, Levin was not permitted to play. Therefore, Tamu filled in for Yuri and was seen reading the music sheets for the entire performance. That was not the first time Tamu supporting Gacharic Spin. Back in 2018 during Gacharic Spin tour, Tomo-zo (guitar) was hospitalized so Hana (drums & vocals) took over Tomo-zo's role and Tamu was called up to cover for Hana. Gacharic Spin could pick any session guitarist to cover for Tomo-zo but it seemed they prefer Tamu to stepped in for Hana who was covering for Tomo-zo. That again shows how reliable Tamu's drumming skills is and how thoughtful she is for answering emergency request in such short notice.
In January 2022, NEMOPHILA appeared in one-man show for the first time featuring all original members including the drums goddess, Tamu. In that show, they performed a song LIFE as finale, which was a very special song they performed for Tamu during one of their live streaming event, celebrating Tamu's return to the line ups after maternity leave. This time around, it is very emotional for mayu seeing all the band members around her managed to pull off this one-man show with her and she cried hard. Before their final bow, Tamu is the first to approached mayu and gave her a hug with gentle stroke on her hair like a mother's gesture saying she did a great job.
I was impressed by your RAITEI reaction before so I suggest another 2 of her masterpiece, NEMOPHILA originals, HYPNOSIS and 鬼灯 (Demon Light, pronounced Hozuki. If you want more adventurous drumming, check out her video titled NEMOPHILA /OIRAN 2人で叩いてみた where she invites Madoka of Drum TV to play OIRAN with her (yes 2 drummers side by side), another NEMOPHILA original. In this performance, Madoka hitting the original notes while Tamu on freestyle.

I think her smiles are from the satisfaction of being and creating such loud sounds. Given how being noisy is such a Japanese etiquette taboo, I think she feels the joy of being a rebel. A sweet, beautiful rebel who has transformed her loudness into a flourishing career that is beloved by so many around the world.💪🏻🤘🏻

What your hearing is the actual recording on the day the over head shots for the video dont match in correctly with the sound and were added from Tamu's overhead drum cam(its her studio) in the video editing this has confused several drummers LOL .They do these covers in a batch on the day not doing much practising LOL. and leave the errors in like the start when Hara comes in on the wrong count .Its all done for fun with the covers .Have a look at there originals that's where the gold is .

Knowing TAMU's chops and how this band loves to have fun with these covers...she appears to me that she's having a little fun with HARA-chan coming in on the 1 count of the following measure 2:33. There could be more than one video track that has been dubbed in like Mark said. Check MAYU's outfit in the SORAI MV. 🥁🐸🏆

Someone named Roland Karlsson just commented on my reaction to this same Nemophila video saying that I was the second reactor that he's seen that caught the "snare sounding toms" in this video. 😆 The consensus seems to be that what you're hearing in the video is from the actual live recording but that some editing was done to the video afterwards to improve on the cuts and that the editor must have put in the wrong video clip over the snare drum roll. That part of the song is repeated several times with different drum rolls so that theory is plausible.

Nemophila was just a side project for singer Mayu to get some exposure since she left her band Lipstick. Mayu knew bassist Haragushi-san from college. They recruited drummer Tamu Murata. Tamu asked guitarist Saki (right side) if she knew anyone to help out. Tamu worked with Saki on one of her side projects. Saki brought in her friend Hazuki (left guitarist) for the project. After their first session. They liked each other. Became friends. And knew they have a good chemistry playing as a band. Nemophila became a band right around the pendemic (COVID) happened. Nemophila last January 2022 played their first concert as a complete unit in front of a live audience. Since then it's been music videos, zoom shots or livestreams. They will break out in 2023.

I have noticed with the covers they have recorded with each member in their own space, the audio mix is a s good as when they are in the studio, as in this video. I have always suspected post production for the volume levels alone and reverb on Mayu's voice here and there. You picked up on an overdub for the tom drums so I wonder how much other tinkering is carried out in post? Not saying that is bad because obviously they want the sound to be good. The Nemophila lady's are more than capable of playing live. Unfortunately, there is not too much live material from them due to the pandemic. These cover versions are a good substitute for the lack of live material.

You mentioned that there might be different parts of the Drums at different times. They didn't say anything about this being live.
Come on dude, you can see from their faces in different sections, Sometimes smiling and sometimes concentrating within a split 2nd.Obviously this is edited, But that doesn't take away from the excitement and expertise of the performance. They have obviously done about 3 performances. and brought different captions from each performance to make a more impressive final product

    • @DRUMNERD
      @DRUMNERD  Před rokem

And I don’t recall saying anything about caring if it’s live or not - I said what I heard which wasn’t incorrect. Plus, coming from a background of being told and practiced enough to do everything in one take it makes me expect that when I see a band in a studio on the floor. It’s not an impossible task to ask, I’ve done it, others have done it, purely saying what I heard from the track at the end of the day.
I never also said that took away from their ability either. Be well.
