When I was maybe 11, I thought planking was the funniest thing and kept trying to do it in public to try and make people laugh. I was once at a party with my friends and their parents, and we were outside when I got the idea to ring the doorbell and plank when they answered. I thought one of the adults would open the door, laugh and take a picture. Well the person who opened the door was my mom. She looked at me, rolled her eyes, and then walked back inside. That's when I stopped
Okay so I always crack up when someone mentions the planking trend, because there was a period of time before this fad where my family was OBSESSED with planking; but the exercise kind! Like elbows down, hold body up on toes, and see how long you can hold it for. My whole damn family was literally doing it every day for like 3 months trying to compete who can hold the position the longest. I had shit upper body strength so I always hated having to do it. My mom, on the other hand, can hold up to 15 minutes. So imagine my confusion when planking became a whole trend.

In 2011 I was in Iraq. My friend planked on top of a tower of Uday Hussein's palace while we were staying there. The mad man took all the dignity out of the war and that's actually why it ended a month later; everybody cringed and went home.

People put football shirts on it in AFL season. People put life vests on it, the joke being it’s a statue of a diver. Someone once spray painted it’s face in clown makeup. The statue is just a big ol’ meme, it was only a matter of time before someone tried to plank on it.
