I like the fact that you’re listening critically…. And you’re speaking your mind. This album did divide opinions when it came out. You should give it another go, maybe when you’re not so tired. There are definitely some exquisite diamonds there.

As a huge Zep fan this album took me by far the longest to get into. Its a grower for sure. I can't wait for you to check out 4, Houses of the Holy, and physical Graffiti. Those 3 albums are so much more experimental and amazing than 1-3 in my opinion.

Some advice, take it or leave it:
When you do videos, it's best to get some rest.
Yawning makes it seem like you are disinterested or lazy.
Getting rest is a part of preparation.
Treat your viewers as if you are doing a job interview or making a sale.

Zeppelin IV is most certainly amazing, but my personal favorite (and I'm sure many other peoples favorite) is Physical Graffiti. That album is not only my favorite Led Zeppelin album, but along with the White Album by the Beatles, my 2 favorite albums of all time. And the more you listen to these songs, the more you'll realize that Since I've Been Loving You is not only one of the greatest tracks on this album, but indeed, one of the greatest achievements in audio recording history.
    Peace

You have to keep in mind that this era was a huge evolution in Rock music.
So this is very likely engineered just how Jimmy wanted it.
He did remaster their albums in 1990, so you could see how that sounds.

I'll say a couple of Zeps albums take a few listens to fully appreciate. On Physical Graffiti which is a great album there were a fee songs that took a bit to appreciate because they were very different and unique.
So not going to knock you for being tired because I don't know what you got going on, but I've found in my 60 years of life that you look at things differently and enjoy them more when your rested.
Example imagine going to say a amusement park or even the show when your very tired verse well rested there 2 totally different experiences. Just a thought

Gallow’s Pole is a traditional British folk song from the 1600s. As a schoolboy at the end of the 59s into the 60s we learnt this song in class. I think it must’ve been part of the British schools music curriculum. My guess, as Page is only slightly older than me, is that Page heard this song in school just as I did.
There is a version of Gallow’s Pole by the black American folk and blues artist Leadbelly from the very early fifties. It is mistitled Gallis Pole. It’s a very good interpretation.

Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” was used in several films. Here is wikipedias entry on its use in films:
“Led Zeppelin originally denied Richard Linklater permission to use "Immigrant Song" in School of Rock (2003), but star Jack Black was able to convince them by making a video of himself performing the song.[24] In the movie Shrek the Third (2007), "Immigrant Song" appears in a battle scene involving the character Snow White.[25] A cover of "Immigrant Song", produced by Atticus Ross and Nine Inch Nails member Trent Reznor with vocals from Yeah Yeah Yeahs lead singer Karen O, plays in the trailer and throughout the title sequence of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011).[26] "Immigrant Song" was included in both the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and twice in the film itself, due to director Taika Waititi's suggestion of the song from the time of his first involvement with the film and to the persistent efforts of the movie's music supervisor Dave Jordan.”

  • @ursgeiser6570
    @ursgeiser6570 Před 5 měsíci +1

It's worth listening to the remastered versions out loud because you can hear so many instrumental nuances in the acoustic songs. I love these acoustic live sets from around 1971, which were then reintroduced in 1975+77, because to me they show how good a band is from the ground up. Since ... is of course a masterpiece, especially live.
Sometimes you need to hear something several times. At my age and environment at the time, it was easier: the albums were relatively expensive; that's why we organized listening sessions before purchasing. The artists lived primarily from the albums, so they were innovative, not from touring like today; that was more of a promo for the current album.

As a 66 year old lifetime Led Zeppelin fan I was ALIVE when these albums were ORIGINALLY released!!😮 The FIRST album that I PURCHASED was Led Zeppelin II, THREE had NOT yet been released!! Once I heard Led Zeppelin II, I IMMEDIATELY went out and got Led Zeppelin's DEBUT album and absolutely loved it!!! So I was very excited and had great anticipation for Led Zeppelin 3's release!! Yes it was DEFINITELY more acoustic than the previous TWO albums, nonetheless I fell in love with it pretty QUICKLY!!
I am in agreement with you that "Since I've Been Loving You" is the standout tune on this album!! Personally I think it's Robert Plant's BEST vocal performance EVER!!!

At last! A reactor who "gets" Hats Off to Roy Harper. Most Led Zeppelin "fans" detest the track and completely miss the point that the lads were imitating the experience of listening to old Chess Records blues songs on cheap transistor radios. As pure a channeling of the Delta blues as they could have conceived.

I know this may feel like an odd direction considering 1 & 2, but oddly, even though I think it's an imperfect record, I find myself returning to 3 more often than 2 or 4. 1 will always be my favorite. It's just tight, punchy, rollicking iconic blues rock. I don't know if you plan to do their discography front to back, but I think you'll have a ball with Physical Graffiti. Just an unambiguously great record.

3 is a very transitional album that’s for sure and I think you articulated very well what I didn’t like about the album at first: the messiness. And while I don’t like the last two songs to this day, the rest of the album grew immensely on me, especially Friends and Celebration Day. I wouldn’t say it’s better than 1, but I like it pretty much equally.

B stomp is a song about Robert Plants' dog. I love the raw sloppy, production, WAY WAY, so much WAY more interesting than much of today's computerized spittle. You like what you like, but the unsettling chaos is perhaps an acquired taste that a yawner will never devour to one's delight. I'm not drawn to debating you on your assessments, opinions, but obviously I'm listened for (50) years and have the depth to love the production.
