- In this video, I will be showing you how to make this amazing Love Cake. This cake is really tasty and it really nice with a tea during the colder winter months. I have baked this cake in the oven, but you can put this cake on the pan, which I have shown in previous videos. I recommend everything making this amazing cake. Love Cake ingredients:
Salted butter - 200g
Semolina - 250g
Cashew nuts - 250g
Dark Brown Sugar - 250g
6 eggs
Some small cinnamon sticks
Some cardamom
1 whole nutmeg
Honey - 2 tablespoons
Rose syrup - 1 tablespoons
1 lemon

Many centuries ago, when the Portuguese ruled the tiny island of Ceylon, a cake was born. They called it the Love Cake, as it was baked to win the hearts of suitors. Like love, it was deliciously sweet, fragrant, lightly spiced and slightly intoxicating. Born of an unpretentious Portuguese recipe, the cake has taken on a life of its own, with fruits, nuts and spices native to the island, and fragrant touches of rosewater and citrus, courtesy of Moorish influences in the region.These days, there are as many recipes for Love Cake as there are cooks on the island now known as Sri Lanka. Some recipes specify grinding cashews coarsely, some require processing them into fine meal. Some call for semolina roasted in a dry skillet, some don’t. But all of the recipes agree on one thing: The key to authentic Sri Lankan Love Cake is a wonderfully moist, soft center, wrapped in the golden armor of a slow-baked semolina crust.

Yes, this love cake was introduced to Sri Lanka by the Portuguese, just as Mr. Yunus had written. It is also known as Bolo Di Amor. It is a common cake in Portugal and Spain. The taste of the cake was enhanced by the Sri Lankan spices and nuts with a touch of Arabic influence, the rose essence. The grinding of the spices and nuts those days was considered hard labour of love. Its an age old recipe taking us all down memory lane to the 16 centiry history. The Sri Lankans bake this cake for all festive occasions. You have baked it so well dear. As I love suji, I am going to bake it for Christmas. Thank you for sharing. All the best. Can you tell me what type of oven you are using. I made the love cake but started to get darker on the top with in 20minutes.
I have an electrical oven - use a low temperature for an even bake. Hope this helps :)
