That brings back happy memories of my steam engine which I had one Christmas in about 1970. Mine had a rod which screwed onto the front axle through the chimney and was used to steer it with.
Growing up, my brother and I used to play with my dad's Wilesco D16 Steam Engine and his Wilesco Old Smokey D36 Steamroller. When he passed last August, I not only inherited his steam models, but we discovered while cleaning out his house that he had a Mamod TE1 tractor as well. Plus. Enough of the solid fuel tablets to run 1000 steam engines. Which reignited my passion for live steam models.
I usually run mine on compressed air! The Mamod has two speed forward, fast and faster and two speeds in reverse, again fast and faster. You seem to be missing a scuttle. You can get accessories for them, like boiler bands and such! They are almost indestructible and with oiling may run for ever! My first one was roller then the TE1, then on to the Wilesco's! Getting one steam engine seems to lead to another! Happy steaming!
I've got one like that which I only steamed up once. I need to get it back out again but the bolt that holds the reverser lever broke and won't screw in properly. I have no idea where to get a replacement from, but I'm sure I'll find out eventually!

I’m sorry to hear that he passed away. I’m sure he would be pleased to know that his models are still being steamed 🙂
Brilliant Alec. I believe Mamod's factory are just a couple of miles from me in Smethwick, West Mids

They crop up quite regularly online. I believe Mamod do supply parts. It might be worth contacting them.
