    Somebody ought to make a video about the characters of world trigger. Despite the enormous cast, the characters are surprisingly deep. Characterization in this show is subtle and often shown to us, rather than told.
    For example, when Hyuse joined the squad we get a subtle insight into Yuma's character. Toward the end of their first rank war together with Hyuse, Osamu makes a bad call, and Hyuse refuses to obey his orders. In this situation, Hyuse is correct and Osamu is wrong. Yuma and Hyuse have a brief argument. Yuma thinks obeying the captain is more important than making the correct strategic decision while Hyuse disagrees. Ultimately Yuma and Hyuse split up, Yuma obeying Osamu's orders while Hyuse continues alone. The result is that Hyuse is taken out and the targets they're hunting manage to bail out, costing the squad those potential points. A minor disaster, though they still win the rank war.
    When this happened, I suddenly remembered earlier things that Yuma had said and done. He's constantly asking Osamu for orders. Before that, he was constantly asking Replica what he should do, and Replica would always answer "That is for you to decide yourself, Yuma". When Tamakoma 2 was first founded, Yuma insisted that Osamu become captain. Why? Yuma himself had vastly more combat experience, he should obviously have been captain. At the time I assumed that was just a plot convenience to keep Osamu relevant despite his weakness and inexperience, but when you put all the pieces together the picture becomes clear.
    Yuma has a psychological need to be told what to do by someone else. And he always obeys his orders. Why?
    Well, what happened last time he disobeyed an order and took the initiative himself? His tragic backstory happened.

    • @ClaustroPasta
      @ClaustroPasta Před 2 lety +49

      And the "plot convenience" doesn't felt cheap because that particular episode literally throws Yuma's reason to live. So him putting that choice on others really makes sense. He had no drive, might as well leave it to someone who has the drive to do it for him.

    I also love how most of the time, the show doesn't hide a characters surprise strategy. often they are hidden in plain sight, like when you can see Osamu put up more wires before dying, but if you watch closely enough you can see it all happening.

    • @TheByQQ
      @TheByQQ Před 6 měsíci +15

      Yeah, the attention to detail is incredible.
      Usually if another anime had a scene like the moment Chika finally uses a real bullet, the guy trying to use a rooftile to protect himself would just... Have it. It would just be in his hand out of nowhere, explained with "he was prepared".
      But in WT you can actually *see* the exact moment he picks it up. It's not mentioned, or explained in a post-match flashback, or in any other way explicitly pointed out, you can actually just see him grab the tile when he hangs on the building wall for a split second to jump at Osamu.
      Sure, it's not exactly realistic to just effortlessly rip out a tile, but at least the author pays attention to the details enough to show what happened

  • @KizunaCollection
    @KizunaCollection Před 2 lety +26

    World Trigger really is an underrated series. I had the same expectation for Tamakoma-2 would win the rank wars after Round 4. Osamu acted like a captain in Round 2. While in Round 3 he was a captain, but throw it all away for aiming for another point against Nasu. Round 4 was the turning point for Osamu, he finally understood the power gap between the top teams. He needed to do what a captain for his team. Improving on his strategies, having his Ace Kuga grow stronger with his wires. With Chika using lead bullets. Rounds 5 and 6 was still a struggle, but his team overcame those struggles. Also had wonderful fight in those rounds. Round 7 was also another revenge match against Kagura and Asuma Team. While Suzunari-1 was a team they defeated they too, grow stronger with there tactics as well. With the inclusion of Hyuse now joining Tamakoma-2, Osamu took advantage of this since there was no data of Hyuse. Round 8 was the real meaning of the final obstacle that they must take. Hyuse able to handle 6 enemies at once, and using Viper to defeat Ikoma. Kuga with his creativity with his scorpion using it as shuriken. Chika finally using regular bullets to protect those she cares about. Finally Osamu, the rematch that we all waited for. I believe that the final shoot had another meaning. Through out the series, Osamu has stated that he was not a HERO. That he can not give those people expectations. Though there are some people that believe that Osamu is a HERO. When he activated his bugworm against Ninomiya. I truly saw that Osamu overcame the obstacle that he overcame. Also World Trigger has some really awesome openings.

Also afto invation was the best arc, I wonder how Invading aftokrator would come out. That arc may have a lot at stake knowing their goals, the higher ups' plan against huse and many more.

    i want to slightly disagree on the improvement part, world trigger doesn't invalid self improvement in a place where everyone is also trying to improve. WT compare to most shonen is more grounded more realistic, Osamu effort to improve himself that time was not pointless and it was never consider as pointless, Kazama point was Osamu self improvement was not pointless, it was just not enough and was not fast enough to be a tangible thing to help his team. While Osamu got teaching from both Arashiyama and Izumi that time but atbest Osamu only got was a few day of self training, while yes few day is enough to see some improvement but it is not big, this is where WT is more grounded than normal shonen manga.
    Improvement in WT and irl is not an instant power up like you playing a game where you just put point into a skill tree, it a process that you slowly building up and this can be see from Osamu with each later round after that defeat. If u pay attention in the beginning of B rank war, Osamu will have slight hesitance or small freak out when in combat, especially if opponent in close combat range, but as each round later, you can see him being more compose, having better reaction, more quick to take action and starting to handle himself better when being alone and get target by his opponent. His training is showing it result and it was not a waste but like anything, it need time.
    Before anyone jump in and said what special about that as everyone else is already fighting super well like it was nothing. I want to remind yall that Osamu was only a trainee before he met Yuma and coz of Yuma that Osamu got jump straight into B rank. While irl the manga/anime make it feel like it been very long already but in WT, it was only a few months since Osamu was still a trainee and beside Chika and Osamu, most B rank agent have atleast over 1 year of experience and training, the top rank is even more. Asking Osamu to play catch up with people that have more years of training and exp is very unrealistic demand to Osamu, and if you consider the whole picture, Osamu already improving as a very fast rate.

    on the 3rd point brought up the fact that even with all that hard work that every agent did and the sacrefices that all agents made the fact that it's still only the 3rd best outcome shows that no matter what path they took there were gona be casualties and there were gona be consequances.
    also while i do like match 7 of the b- rank wars arc the most out of all of them i will always concied that match 8 is the best among them it showing all that world trigger is about not only in the final bout but throughout the entire final match

    Hi. Ii feel the tight character writing is well summarized in Katori's battle against Tamakoma-2. We got introduced to her, we get basic information about her team and some insight as the battle went through. And even some narrative pay-off in her final attack when she was against the wall.
    While that was only her "abandoning the slumber state" arc, it encapsulates what you said about how well written the plot (and some characters) are, since Katori's involves all of her teammates.

    • @user-jy8zb2wc8l
      @user-jy8zb2wc8l Před 2 měsíci +1

      I didn't like that match when I first watched it, but having rewatched it a few times, I now understand the loss in terms of a loss to the other teams' strategies vs Osamu's.
      The purpose of the other teams' strategies was to get the easy points and Tamakoma-2 was both weak and a threat - the team were clearly less experienced and not done fixing their fatal flaws yet but they also could NOT be underestimated. That combination gives the other teams ample motivation to target them (esp when you know Tamakoma would have done the same thing to capitalize on other teams' weaknesses for points in the reverse). It also made tactical sense for Ninomiya and Azuma to take down Tamakoma rather than go head on as a match up (they'd be proven right by both of them running out the time after being unsuccessful in knocking each other out). If they had done so, those would be exactly the kind of conditions where Tamakoma would sneak in. These two squads have the A/B rank levels of experience of many battles to know better. These would have been the other highly experienced team leaders' mindset going in, based on their knowledge of the other teams they were facing.
      However, Tamakoma lost because Osamu focused on improving his individual ability and overlooked on the team strategy. It shows Osamu himself isn't going to be some absolute genius in his strategies but he can lose focus and make mistakes (and the other teams will take advantage when he does) and he can become distracted by side goals. It emphasises to us too that Osamu's genius strategies don't happen by itself but require a great deal of hard work, in a smart direction. Through the loss, Osamu learns to see the big picture of the team goal and fully accepts his weakness is something he has to take into account but isn't his true goal.

    • @sonicchaos-ir9kw
      @sonicchaos-ir9kw Před měsícem +1

      @@user-jy8zb2wc8l I think you make good points and yes them being targeted makes sense. I'm referring specifically on osamu's defeat, they claim that ye should've been careful when in reality that decision is pretty solid. If he had gone outside he would've been sniped anyway even if he didn't know. Inukai was two on one with a missing arm against two attackers. Osamu had a very clear opportunity to at least inflict damage if he went for it so having him get sniped through a building seems incredibly unfair. Even if that is the point of the battle it's just not a satisfying loss.

    • @user-jy8zb2wc8l
      @user-jy8zb2wc8l Před měsícem

      @@sonicchaos-ir9kwI think that is fair! I don't think there was much Osamu could have done differently during that scene. His judgement in the battle was solid but at the end of the day his weakness was still being a less experienced fighter including reaction time and instincts honed through battle. Azuma also just has an incredible OP move. He probably could have succeeded a hit on any of them and he picked Osamu. I think that's why I eventually came to decide that the only thing that he could have feasibly done to prevent that loss was to work on the broader team strategy to find solutions for or avoid fights where he is so disadvantaged by being the lesser experienced fighter. Though I do think Osamu probably still did learn from this battle - when Ema did something similar by shooting through the floor, he seemed much quicker to move and dodge. Ema is not Azuma level though.
