NEW YORK (AP) -- Milo Yiannopoulos has resigned as editor of Breitbart Tech after coming under fire from other conservatives over comments on sexual relationships between boys and older men.
On Monday, he was disinvited from the Conservative Political Action Conference after video of his remarks was promoted through social media by a conservative blog, the Reagan Battalion. Publisher Simon & Schuster and its Threshold Editions imprint later announced it would cancel the publication of his book, "Dangerous."
In a statement Tuesday, Yiannopoulos said he would be wrong "to allow my poor choice of words to detract from my colleagues' important reporting."
I think Milo deserved better than this.

I think he's brilliant and could be an incredibly powerful voice.
But, he needed to learn that saying whatever you want, whenever you want, comes with a price. And, that price is even steeper when you insist that you have a legitimate political view and are a journalist after the truth.
He relies upon humor far too much, for someone that portrays themselves as a medium for truth and honesty. He could choose not to be a provocateur, but that seems unlikely after the statement he gave here.

Speaking as a fellow child abuse victim at the hands of a family member, I will take this apology. As Milo said, we all have our personal ways to deal with our experiences. With him it's obvious he's chosen to deal with his abuse with the dry, offensive humor that's given him the notoriety he's famous for. Personally I'm nearing my mid 30s, and despite struggling with anxiety, depression and self esteem issues stemming from said abuse I'm still able to crack a joke or two at my own expense.
I won't say his choice of words were tasteful, but that's Milo. He's apologised and acknowledged he made a mistake, which for anyone who's followed him for a long time is something, he's never done before. Pedophilia is a touchy subject, and if people choose to unfollow/ignore/hate him for what he said, that's their choice and I can understand why. But from this victim, I will continue to follow Milo and support his fights.

I am a child abuse victim and nothing he said offended me. It struck me as a young man working through his own childhood issues. It is a complicated issue and how we each deal with it is just as complicated... I hope this brings a light to pedophilia and how horribly it affects the children involved and those around them.

J D I'm very open about my experiences and I use humor (some call it gallows humor) to take the edge off the serious nature of it. I have offended a lot of people in the process so thank goodness I am in no danger of being a personality of import. I speak frankly that the little girl in me still sees one of the people involved as a sort of savior. I was much much younger than Milo at the time of his abuse and it is still at times hard for me to reconcile my adult feeling with my childhood memories. He could be anyone, he just happens to be in the spotlight at the moment, my only hope is that it does indeed bring awareness to those hurting from a trauma that literally lasts a lifetime.

Im a christian and don't agree with the lifestyle Milo chooses to live but God created us with the freedom of choice and that in itself is the greatest love of all. I also agree with a lot of his thoughts and theories on our culture and government. We all say things we don't mean or wish we could take back. The poor guy was abused as a child and that deserves our compassion and we all could end up different depending on upbringing. In it Milo has spoken against child molestation, he has said that he used to say things for "shock value", he mentioned that he chose is words wrong in the past and that some of the videos of his were edited to reflect things in a way that he did not mean. He also mentioned that the word "Boy" or "Girl" in the homosexual community may denote someone who is "18 or 19" and does not mean a young child. He apologized for his words, apologized if he personally hurt anyone and addressed that he has single handed taken down 3 child molesters in his career where many other journalists remained quiet.
So I see no "child molesting sympathizers" here. In fact, I see a man who did NOT molest kids having his poorly chosen words against him. I see a man who actually protected several kids from sexual assault by exposing them being "exposed" for his stupid words.
