Every song they do live in japan is like the Road of Resistance video you saw. And a lot of them in other countries. Their concerts at Wembley and the LA Forum were awesome. They really have the big productions in japan though, i guess it's harder to bring all that stuff to other countries. They had 20 foot tall fox statues that breathe smoke and have lazers coming out of their eyes.
Not that they need a big production to put on a great show. They put on a great show even when they had no live band and it was only the 3 girls and some speakers.

Good reaction - and yes live BABYMETAL is best. Shame about Road of Resistance, but that one has been targeted and blocked a lot lately. If you still have it you could upload it on Bitchute or somewhere else and do a short video here to give us the link and for somewhere to add comments.
Road of Resistance was a collaboration with Herman Li and Sam Totman of DragonForce who wrote the guitar arrangements and played on the studio version for the album.
For 'Distortion' on the album version (not this one) Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy has done the scream vocals. Generally screams, growls and additional instruments (piano, synth etc) are on a backing track.
Yes there were 4 girls on stage here. This was 2018 and one of the girls, Yuimetal, didn't make the tour for health reasons so Su-metal and Moametal were supported by two dancers who became known as 'Muscle Metal' (they were very toned). Sadly Yui announced in October 2018 that she was still not well enough to perform and that she would be leaving the band.
Su and Moa chose to continue as a duo and since the start of the 2019 tour they have been supported by three dancers (the Avengers - Kano, RIho and Momoko) who take turns to dance in the third spot.
I think you were looking at BOH with his 6 string bass guitar. If you want to see something of what he can do with that you should watch 'Rondo of Nightmare' (this is a Su-metal solo, you will not see Yui or Moa in this one) with the 'Mischiefs of the Metal Gods' intro from the Kami Band. This is live at the Budokan in 2014 - it is old enough that doesn't tend to get blocked czcams.com/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/video.html
Another song where you will see more crowd control is 'Headbanger' live at Legend 1997 (December 2013 and Su's 16th birthday celebration) - again old enough that it doesn't get blocked czcams.com/video/QEsOaMbNFww/video.html

If you think they're good live hold your socks until you see an actual blu-ray of some of their best/bigger concerts. And as far as festivals go, their best ever performance (and best ever crowd) has to be at Metrock festival. You've GOT to see that concert. It's about 40 minutes long but it's GOT to be on your bucket list for when you'll be doing the livestream concerts reactions. I've never, in my 32 years of life, as a metalhead, have ever seen a more crazy crowd. Legit. Legit on the level (and above) of what DevilDriver can do to a crowd. It's MASSIVE participation. The crazy thing is that she is really a tiny person at 5ft 1inch tall, and Moa, the one behind her is even shorter! With their healed boots/shoes and hair, they look taller. Great reaction! This is actually the song that got me into BABYMETAL only about six months or so ago. I've been hooked ever since! Someone mentioned it already, but the different formation was an experimental one because of the loss of Yui Mizuno, aka Yuimetal, who was on hiatus for health issues from October 2017 - October 2018 when she officially left the band because of it. They did all types of formations: 4 girls with Su and Moa in the middle like this one, 5 girls, 7 girls. They finally decided after Yui officially left that they had to keep it at 3 for continuity, so they have a rotating trio they call the "Avengers" who swap out shows or even continents for performing. None of them have a mic, they are just there for dancing.
As for Su's crowd control and ability to play with them, I have said it in other videos and no one has come at me for it: I really feel like she has Freddie Mercury levels of charisma and crowd control. In most shows, she doesn't even have to say a word, she just moves her finger in a circle and people do as she wants. To think that she was only 20 in this video...hell, she was only 17 in the "Road of Resistance" video and called for a wall of death without saying a word. It's insane how good she is as a performer, but if you see her in videos when they're not on-stage, she was just a normal teenage girl, all of them were.
I suggested a couple songs on the other video, here I'll suggest different ones:
"Rondo of Nightmare" with Mischiefs of God Intro - This is a Su solo and features the band doing their own solo's before she comes out.
"Sis. Anger" - This is just Yui and Moa, aka Black BABYMETAL, and this is probably the most metal song they have in their entire catalog.
"Pa Pa Ya" featuring F. Hero - As I said in the RoR video, this is live video with studio track over it, but it is still excellent and shows more of their live shows and how crazy they get. It's also one of their newest songs, so you see the girls now as adults with their voices fully matured and it definitely changes the dynamic.
"BxMxC" - Ever want to hear rap in metal? Here ya go! It's such a good song, and the fans playfully say the title stands for "Bring Moa Chicken" because she is a foodie and loves fried chicken.

BOH, the bald guy, plays a 6-string bass. The guitars are likely ESP, a Japanese brand. Somebody else probably know the exact models. Yuimetal is absent due to illness. Later in 2018 she officially left. The two extra people in this video only dance and do not sing. Last year they switched back to the trio format with a dancer in Yui's place. The job rotates among three people who are called the Avengers. Two, Kano Fujihara and Momoko Okazaki are from the same idol group, Sakura Gakuin, that Babymetal sprang from. The 3rd (Riho Sayashi) attended Actor School Hiroshima with Su-metal and was part of another idol group Morning Musume. While they only dance as an Avenger, all three are singers leading to endless speculation that one of them will become the Yui replacement, but for now Babymetal is a two person act with Su-metal and Moametal. Everyone else, the Avengers and the backing band, are the supporting cast.

I believe ISAO is playing an ESP E-II HRF NT-8B.
Takayoshi Ohmura has one of the ESP Snapper 7 Fujioka custom guitars he inherited from his great friend Mikio Fujioka.
Like you mentioned, BOH has a six-stringed bass, his signature Atelier Z model.

    • @mitchellhodgemeyer7306
      @mitchellhodgemeyer7306 Před 3 lety +1

Uh, the rest are not a "supporting cast." Babymetal is a BAND at this point in time, regardless of how Amuse stupidly markets them as just being the two vocalists. It is largely Amuse's fault that they continue to market "Babymetal" as just Su and Moa, which is exactly the main reason that Babymetal has gotten so much push back and trash talking from the metal community now and in the past. Anyway, even though the instrumentalists sometimes change, it doesn't change the fact that they form a complete live band with the two vocalists when Babymetal does live shows.

    • @rakjr6
      @rakjr6 Před 3 lety +3

@@mitchellhodgemeyer7306 They are admittedly sort of stuck in-between and Amuse is to blame. Somewhere I saw a quote from Su-metal saying they work on songs like a rock band rather than an idol group. For the US tour they completely replaced the backing band, so I can't agree they are what many people consider a "band". Don't misunderstand me, I am not criticizing their approach. Westerns have this fetish for a "band" being a bunch of guys starting a garage band in high school, writing their own songs, and going on to success. But both popular and classical music have a history of music groups with guest performers and and independent song writers. Babymetal fits that broader and older tradition.

    • @mitchellhodgemeyer7306
      @mitchellhodgemeyer7306 Před 3 lety +1

@@rakjr6 You're right that many Westerners are stuck on this idea that the way the West makes music is the only "legit" way to make music, which is completely absurd and hella insultingly ethnocentric to boot.
And to your point about classical music, what many people consider a band is irrelevant - those people that are hung up on what makes a band are just using double standards. After all, no one says that the New York Philharmonic isn't an orchestra even though the member musicians regularly change. And even in metal and other typical Western rock bands, line-up changes happen all the time. So, does that mean the new line-up of a given metal group isn't a band? Of course it doesn't. If that were the case, then Metallica shouldn't be considered a band any time after Jason Newsted joined.

In the front of the middle is SUMETAL(vocal&dance), directly behind it is MOAMETAL(scream&dance), and on both sides are the two muscle sisters(dance)(It's a nickname that was given to me in Japan.). In the dark side, it was SU+MOA+Dancer, but then it became SU+MOA+Avenger. Unlike in the Dark Side, this member is in a position to replace YUIMETAL(scream&dance), who left in the middle of the group.

    - BEFORE, where you'll see the 3 girls (Suu, Yui, and Moa) doing mostly cheerful songs in black and red tutus. They were smaller and cuter.
    - AFTER: where you'll see 2 girls (Suu and Moa) + other girls with darker costume design and hairdo. They are more mature and doing less of the cutesy stuffs.
DISTORTION has become one of their staple songs in the new era, oftenly comes early in the setlist to hype up the crowd...

Actually, I was disappointed by this performance, the circle pits weren't big enough. ;-)
That's what you get at festival, not everyone is a fan.
I've actually seen people in wheel chair crowd surfing, but not yet at a Babymetal show though.
Funny you should mention the screaming, this was a single before the album came out and they asked Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy to do the screaming for the album version.
The collab with Rob Halford was amazing. But Babymetal alone is different as you've seen.
Babymetal live has it's own flavor, so to say. And amazing flavor.
2018 was a bit of a strange year for Babymetal appearance on stage. The outfits are kind of cool, but didn't really always represent them as many know them.

Road Of Resistance gets blocked a lot so it's not that bad for all their songs and videos (also, it might just be blocked in Japan cause I see it).
I recommend checking out 'Headbanger' live at Legend 1997. The atmosphere was massive during this song. The concert name is in reference to the lead singer's birthyear as this was her 16th birthday show, and it took place in December 2013.

You were asking about the strat-type guitar. The person playing it was Ohmura and he usually plays either his blingbling esp signature or in this case Mikio's signature guitar in his memory (or atleast it looks like it).

About the guitar, as there is some serious Babymetal history surrounding it, as well as the band. The band, named the Kami Band (or Kami God Band; Kami is the Japanese word for "god" or god-like). As they are - according to the lore/storyline for Babymetal - gods, or avatars for the Fox God, they are chosen by the Fox God, meaning that they can be changed out at any time. Any person may or may not be Kami. This gives them the ability to rotate out musicians due to scheduling conflicts, etc. The classic lineup of the Kami band is:
    Leda Cygnus - guitar
    Takayoshi Ohmura - guitar
    Hideki Aoyama - drums
    BOH - bass
    Mikio Fujioka - guitar
At this show, Leda wasn't available, and Mikio had recently died (he fell from an observation tower while stargazing). Mikio was also one of Ohmura's instructors (another instructor/friend also being one Marty Friedman, from Megadeth). At this show, Mikio was replaced by another guitarist named ISAO.
Leda has his own model of headless guitar, but will also play ESP M-100 series guitars (7-string). Boh has his own signature line of Atelier basses (6 string). Ohmura has his own signature line of ESP Snapper series guitars (one is pink, or "Pink-chan, while the other is gold, or "gold-chan"). Mikio has his own signature series ESP Snapper as well; for Babymetal, they are playing 7-string, while their models come in both 6-string and 7-string. ISAO is playing the ESP E-II HRF NT-8B, 8 string guitar.
Back to that guitar. After Mikio died, since this band is more family than anything, Mikio's wife gave that guitar to Ohmura, who stated that as long as he participates in any Babymetal show, that guitar will be those shows, if not on stage, if not played. It's their way of keeping Mikio as part of Babymetal, and always with them when they perform.

This is from the 'Dark BabyMetal' period. Rakjr6 comment gives you some further info. It was not known if Yui, would return and a tour had already been sorted. What were they to do? Cancel a world tour or go ahead without Yui. What caused so much grief amongst BabyMetal fans that it was never announced that Yui, would not be in the shows. Particularly in America, where the tour started, you had thousands of fans expecting the usual three BabyMetal members but the shock of the costumes, new dancers and no Yui, left many angry.

    Some advice about BABYMETAL reactions:
tl;dr: Don't use compilations for BABYMETAL, we have a better solution.
Please don't rely solely on videos that are on CZcams (mainly compilations); they're not meant to be used for reactions as the mix of concerts and generally bad editing can make it confusing for those new to BABYMETAL. Also, you won't get the full BABYMETAL experience with these. Some people think they are safer for reactions, but they're not. They may get past the bot initially, but you still stand the chance of your video being blocked later and the possibility of having copyright strikes.
Some fans made a selection of "best" performances for each song; I would suggest using it for future BABYMETAL reactions. Here is the link : docs.google.com/document/d/1DqPsavocgGvCyZfUHvrkgJ5KZMaMkmMgjy2UxNNG96E/edit#
You should note though, that your video will almost definitely be blocked if these are included in your video and that you will need to do what we call "link & sync". It's very easy and made easier with the help of Reactor Hub, a tool made for helping avoid blocks etc. We made a short tutorial on how to use it : drive.google.com/open?id=1X6hN2BdyKzFmVN9XMEo2M89hsKY0B-bnnHRVVMNY13w
Using that you are safe from blocked videos and even future copyright strikes, since no copyright material is included in your video :).
There is even a discord for Reactor Hub if you need any help.
I'm hoping you will have fun with BABYMETAL in future reactions :).
