- Trimming is sometimes called the poor man's autopilot, or the cruisecontrol of the plane. Why? Because trimming makes your flying almost effortless. It's a simple but often overlooked skill in flight sims.

what I really like about your videos is that it's always straight forward. no bullshit.
You are absolutely and single-handedly the best at explaining these flying concepts! Thank you so much!
Thank you for this. It helped me alot in trimming :) 9:30 timestamp for me to come bck here
Wow, you totally changed my outlook on GA. I guess other resources explained the same things, but it only clicked with me watching your video. Thanks.
I was having challenge keeping the plane levelled and your explanation is so detailed and clear. I am excited to try this now on MSFS. Great Job! Subscribed!
Haven't watched the video but did your nose keep going up no matter what and trimming never works on xbox no matter what I put it at it doesn't change
I love how you say trrrim
Lol this is the first time I've heard anyone break down throttle / altitude like this, bravo!
I start my training flight tomorrow and It really helps ❤
Thank you for the info. This is great. Something for me to look forward to mastering!! Hava a nice day mate.
When the trim tab moves on the elevator, it actually forces the entire elevator one direction or the other to pitch the nose. It's a little elevator for the elevator.
Just downloaded Flight Simulator a few days ago, this trim thing is something I am trying to figure out. It's sort of easy to understand but confusing at the same time. Thanks for trying to explain it.
Thank you, this is the clearest explanation of what trim is and how to use it I have been able to find. I now think I have what I need to practice and get good at trimming. Thanks again.
Excellent video you help me understand how to properly fly the aircraft rather than just guessing and getting totally confused!
Wow. That was great. You are a very good instructor. Very helpful information that one tends to overlook. I would love to see you apply your considerable talents to tutorials on the basic flight instruments, the Garmin instruments (530, 1000 and 3000), autopilot operation, NDB, VOR, GPS, ILS, and RNAV. I realize that quite a lot but all of these items are of great interest to flight simmers and would be greatly appreciated. BTW, another great topic is flight planning with not only the built-in MSFS approach but also with a sophisticated 3rd party add-on like Little Navmap.
Thanks I am a newbie in flight simulator- this is the best video explaining TRIM, so far I am enjoying a new hobby. Excellent
Very clear explanation for people like me, who is starting to study and understand these new concepts. Thanks 😊
amazing vids i just discovered your channel and learning loads of info for ppl you have A brilliant ability to teach and lots of paitients, your vids a well made and tond is perfect i cant understand why you do not have more subscribers , have you got your ppl . thanks for vids hi from ireland 🇮🇪
Thank you, thank you for explaining things so clearly and for making flying looks so easy for a newbie like me. Your videos are building my confidence in learning how flying works, you teach the basics and make flying enjoyable, again, thank you, thank you.
Thanks loads mate. Missed your videos. Keep it up man 👍
your channel is SUPER helpful... keep up the good work
Great video. Thank you for posting !
I've been an instructor for many years.
Not a bad explanation but perhaps a bit complex while in the aircraft giving dual. An alternative method is to keep the complex theory to a minimum in the airplane. Allow the student to trim by rote while in flight then study the aerodynamics involved on the ground.
Trim is best explained in flight by a simple demonstration followed by the student trimming the airplane.
Example while giving dual;
Trim simply allows you to neutralize the control pressures required to maintain a specific flight condition and configuration.
You put the aircraft in the flight condition you desire. You adjust the power as needed to maintain that condition. Then you neutralize any and all control pressure by trimming the aircraft.
Nose.......power......trim. It's that simple........always !
For example.......a climb from level trimmed flight;
The aircraft has a "climb attitude". That attitude can be demonstrated by placing the nose of the aircraft at a specific attitude above the horizon, holding it there, adding climb power, then trimming off any and all control pressure.
This simple method will work for trim in any flight attitude and/or change in configuration.
The name of the game for the instructor is allowing the student to trim in flight by rote after simple demonstration followed by a more thorough explanation of the why's and how's during a post flight debrief.
Hope this helps a bit.

Brilliant as always.
Concepts that one may understand you put into actual practice that makes all the difference.
I've watched so many guides on everything you have explained here, but you manage to put into practice these concepts better than most.
Thank you
Great video thanks, very simple and perfect! I'm having trouble with the button/toggle on the Boeing yoke. I either hit it too many times or not enough. I bought a 'wheel' one.. subbed! 🙂
Thank you for this video ❤ so easy to understand ❤
Great content and simply explained. Which Microsoft sim is this?
Awesome job! Your videos are so well done and to the point. I have watched many videos that are good, especially Squirrel. I even purchased the Flight Academy VFR and IFR modules. However, I have learned so much more from your videos which has made MSFS 2020 even more fun. You are right, and THANKS TO YOU, that understanding trim as a "cruise control" made everything so much easier. Adjust throttle to maintain vertical speed as you adjust trim for air-speed absolutely clicked for me in this video. Thank you so much and please continue sharing your knowledge. There are still newbies like myself that can really benefit from even the simplest of topics!
Thanks a lot! Glad I could help you!
Good job. So clear
Your attention to detail is Amazing. My go-to channel for learning. Would like to see a video about using patterns to practice your landings.
He has one
Thanks for this excellent explanación 😊😊😊
HI, The information provided by you is excellent and much needed by all.
Can you let me know as to how you have stabilized the aircraft quickly without getting in the oscillation's mode.
I just downloaded FS2020 about two weeks ago (FSX finally broke irreparably with Windows 10) and I have been working with the C-172 and F/A-18E. Vertical TRIM worked well in FSX but it won't hold with FS2020. I've tried several different things but am of the opinion now on 8/2/2022 that vertical Trim simply doesn't work in FS2020. Two years ago we watched with eager anticipation the great improvement in scenery graphics in FS2020, but if aircraft don't work, what good is it? The product was either release prematurely, or the development staff is spread too thin working on other 'games' besides FS2020. I wish I had FSX back, but--as I said--it seems to be broken irreparably.
Very well put
Thank you for your video
May you tell me please during the climb I have to trim up or down?
Thanks for this video
good tutorial. and explanation
thanks for sharing
Thank you
Where on Earth are you flying? Looks like Nahanni National Park. It's so beautiful.
Trouble with all this is and domestic sims is that you cannot “feel” the aircraft as you can in a real one. Until someone brings out a good yoke with feedback this will always be a problem with sims. I believe there is one but it’s expensive (£1000 in the uk approx) and l have no idea if it’s any good. When l was pilot training my instructor used to tell me to use “pat” for level changes that’s Power Attitude Trim. In domestic sims you end up using the trim to change the pitch which is wrong.
Very good video.
Fantastic thanks subbed
One of the best experience
Obrigado!
This isn't just a "how to trim" video, this is also teaches a lot about "how to fly an airplane". Thank you for sharing this valuable resource...are you a teacher by any chance? :P
I am!, I teach software development at a college ;)
@@digitalaviator5088 Bingo!
Ive had an extremely difficult time with the most basic things in this sim. I have no similar problems in any other sim. Using my TM Hotas to set trim is an exercise of frustration. It kinda moves like it is being controlled by someone else. I have no fine control. That Ive had to spend 4 hours on this already with no solution in sight is so unacceptable. Two buttons, up trim and down trim. Why is that so hard?
hey , I have one issue that just came yesterday now I dont if iam doing something wrong or idk , but when I would use the plane and takeoff it would takeoff , but now my trim is 0% , always and whenever I takeoff , it just nose dives for some reason I wouldn't set the trim for any flight and it would takeoff and land smoothly idk what causing this
In a cessna you can trim up a little and you don't need to use flaps. If you do use flaps and then put them up your plane will want to nose dive which indicates your trim is not set properly. When landing, I have one question. Do you land pushing and pulling the yoke ? If yes thats the wrong way. When landing, set trim so that when you reduce speed you slowly go down. When you want to lift nose, increase speed. In other words, you are controlling height with throttle. Remember trimming is something we constantly adjust. Its not one setting and then thats it.
More videos pls
The trim setting doesn't work well.
It seems to be assigned to the joystick button, so I'm using the button to set trim. However, ①when I try to make some subtle setting by pressing the button once or twice, the reaction is very little or none. And if I keep pressing it, it suddenly moves a lot. Also, ②even if I could set the trim, it would not be stable(not be kept in that position), and after a while, it will move to other position.
I'm a FS beginner, so I don't really know, but③ is trim work like this?
I would appreciate it if you could give me your comment on the above three points.
Did you figure it out? I have the same issue. It wont stay at the same trim level
It hasn't been solved yet. However, I started the “Bush Trip” game after that, and I have found that I can control the trim in that game!
@@user-gv3uz1qd6z same, seems to be dependent on the game mode and plane you use
Absolutely!
my plane goes up by itself and even if i set trim id doesnt seem to work
it either keeps going up or down how do i fix
make small changes, adjust throttle and look out for V speed changes. You have to "chase the needle" but it'll work
Very good and well explaind .. i was understanding the relation of throttle and pitch but you confirm my approach of understanding.. thanks a lot..
I came to this looking for a hint to stabilise my MSFS 2020 C-152 in the yaw axis. I can trim the aircraft for pitch beautifully, but as soon as I go hands off, which is the whole point, the aircraft enters a gradual left turn. I have to continually apply a little right yaw to stabilise the heading, which is both tiring and frustrating. I know that there is no manual rudder trim on a C152 but, in reality, the engineers would have adjusted a fixed trim tab on the rudder for cruise flight (done by bending it) to counter this force. So, I am looking for an artificial method of stabilising a pitch-trimmed aircraft in MSFS 2020 for heading - perhaps in settings?
This is what I'm struggling with
@@TheGeekazoid me too facing the same issue...
Lekker accentje maat :p
engelse uitspraak is ook wel een handige vaardigheid, vooral dat trrrim
Great example how to stretch a five minute video into 20 minutes. Redundant much????
This would be a great video if your English was easier to understand..
i smell dutch
