Honda Generator EU1000 won't star. Just follow these instructions and clean the carb. Thanks for watching. Check out my other diagnostic and repair videos.
One of the best help videos I have found. I would have sorted my genny very easily had I not damaged the float chamber by being too hasty. Thank you Inside Garage House.
thank you I appreciate that Martin Ball.
Holy Shit....IT WORKS!!!!! After finding out my FILs didn't work for what ever reason and him and my brother in law couldn't figure out what was wrong with it...I decided to do some research! And out of 9 billion videos on CZcams, I found you! Did it all word for word step by step. And baby's running damn good now! Thanks again!
Thank you John Alim for the comment I appreciate it.
I just acquired a 1000 that's been sitting and doesn't run. I can't wait to try your method. Thank you for a quality made clear straight to the point video. How could any body could give this video a thumbs down amazes me.
thanks I appreciate it. Good luck on. As far as the thumbs down, it's their prerogative. I just assume they didn't get the answer they wanted. hopefully they find what the need from a different video.
Thanks for the great post. Finally decided to have a go at getting mine going and with your input it’s now running like a charm. Thanks mate.
You're welcome David Cox I appreciate your time.
Great video! Don't forget these little generators have an inline fuel strainer that sticks up inside the fuel tank.
Yes you are correct
Thank you so much for the detailed info and close up video! Now I know what parts to order. Again, you do a great job showing how to do these repairs! Have a great day! Keep up the good work! I was hoping to go to the beach this weekend to go metal detecting at night and without my generator running to power the light bars to light up the beach, it would have taken another month. Now, I will have it fixed before Friday!
Cheers,

Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
I was given this generator by my dad as it didn’t run. I cleaned the carb & jet like you showed and now it runs really nice thanks!!!
Great job!
Have a Kipor IG1000 with the same problem. And the Kipor seems to be identical to this model. Most probably the same issue with mine. Thank you for the video!
Thank you for the comment I appreciate it.
Thank You!! Easy fix and now she's running again!
Thank you for the comment I appreciate it
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Got my Honda generator going thanks to you.
No problem and thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Thanks so much. Now mine runs like a deer and just in time to keep a fridge running in case one of theses tropical storms causes a power outage in my area.
Everything worked like you said except I could not find a small enough diameter wire to clean out the brass plug. I guess is was not clogged though because after I installed a new plug and cleaned the carb and put in new gas, all is well.
I'm glad you got it working again . Thanks for the comment
As you probably know, the wire you were using is too thick to clean out the jet hole and tube holes. I used a bristle from a broom as well as carb cleaner to get the jet holes completely clean. Thank you for the video, I would have been lost without it and my generator runs great now.
Yes use a wire that will the jet. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it

Straight to the point and clear. Great vid
Thank you for the comment I appreciate it
I'm guessing my off brand look alike generator has a very similar carb and can be serviced the same way. thanks for the brief video. Very well articulated. I ran the video at 1.5 speed w no prob. Great, now videos have throttles too!
Thank you clave for the comment. If it's a look alike on the outside then i would also assume the inside looked alike too. I didn't know about the speed adjustment till now. Thanks again.
Muy bueno amigo.
Thank you.
Perfect video. Simple but detailed. You saved me money when I fixed mine in under 30 minutes. Want to go.
Glad it helped
Great job! I've always liked those little Honda generators.
Thanks I wish I had one of these too. So quiet.
Thank you! Appreciate the video and clear how to instructions.
You're welcome and thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Thank you very much for your time to show us this lesson
You are very welcome
The jet you cleaned is the main jet . It will clog first , bathing in old fuel . If engine keeps
surging after a (bottom) carb cleanup , look for the Pilot jet , on TOP of the carb ( the
servo-motor is in the way , but the jet is accessible without having to remove it , I do it all
the time (this one needs a very fine steel wire)
Yes , main jet cleaning is usually enough, though.
thanks
Thanks ..... I got my brother's generator to start after sitting for a few years 😂. Worked like a charm
no problem but you should be thanking yourself, you did all the work!
Great presentation, clear as a bell!

Thanks! Solved the starting and running now gonna troubleshoot rough idle
Thank you for the Super Thanks, I appreciate it!
Great video! Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
perfect!! really helped me out!!
Glad it helped!
Great video, had a few running problems with my EU 10, strange one but it runs fine now but choke lever seems to be in reverse, needs to be to the right to run.. any ideas ?
yes it means the engine is relying on the choke to run... instead of what it's supposed to be used for. You'll need to either clean and clear the carb, or just replace it. It'll then run in the left position
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE ok thanks, I’ll give that a try
awesome! it worked!
Glad it worked and thank you for the comment I appreciate it
Fixed it. Thanks.
Glad I could help
Hi. I have a generator works when the choke is off, and never works when the chock is on. Which should be the opposite normally. Noting that it has a new battery, a new spark, the carb is clean, oil is on maximum level… Everything is in good condition. What will be the problem please?
When you cleaned the carb did you clean the jet so you can see thru it?
Muchas gracias!
No hay problema
ha same problem...dads old generator sitting for years...will try.
Chris .Appel thank you for the comment. I hope the best on your repair.
My one of these generators would not start for love nor money. I replaced the spark plug and pulled the carby off and cleaned the jets etc, still wouldn't start. I don't know what posessed me to do it but I looked into the exhaust pipe and lo and behold it was totally blocked with a wasp nest. I cleaned out the muddy nest and it fired first pull. Never had that one before.
wow that was strange but as least you figured it out.
very good
thank you Duyung Baru Liveaboard
Thanks!
thank you Bill Rudersdorf for the super thanks!
Thanks👍
No problem 👍
What about the electric switch for auto throttle…do I need it?
absolutely
can i open the front and disconnect the co-minder sensor. will it still run on this eu1000i if disconnected because i saw a video where the eu2200i still run after the co-minder sensor is disconnected
I would not recommend disconnecting the CO sense.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE most generator don't have it. secondly, the engine keeps shutting off on a false-positive reading because i have an external co beeper nearby that's more accurate which didn't trigger.
I would replace the sensor then.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE expensive. stupidest engineering decision on honda, considering there's always an external co alarm monitor available
I followed your video about cleaning the generator, before that I changed the oil and gaz and the sa park plug… it start but stop after 5 or 10 second
did you check the oil level to make sure it's not low?
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Thank you, oil is levied as shown in the manual…
how long have you had this generator, or is this generator new to you?
My generator will not start and when testing a light while pull starting, it does not light up. Any suggestions
the generator has to be spinning pretty fast, for the light to start glowing, have you tried putting some gasoline it not the intake where the air filter goes yet?
Wow, fantastic. I have the same Honda and she refuses to start. I’m going in.......wish me luck. Lol.
Good luck I hope it starts for you.
Woo hoo. It hasn’t run for over 5 yrs I think. Like yours it was a mess in the carby bowl, I used very fine (000) steel wool to clean it out. The jet came out after a bit of coaxing and luckily the little brass tube above it was clean. The jet was completely blocked but I finally managed to push an extremely fine sewing needle through it. I flushed out the fuel tank and added fresh fuel and pulled the cord a few times and eureka she purred into action. It’s been running for about 10 mins now and it was hunting a lot on Eco mode but now she seems to be a lot more even, not perfect though. The mud wasps had built a nest in the exhaust pipe and I cleaned it out pretty well but it spat dirt particles for a few minutes. It’s so great to have it going again and go on charging duties, two iPads and two iPhones, while we hit the road in June for a road trip through the central Australian desert to Darwin. The second or aux battery in the car was losing charge after two nights of charging devices. I’m very grateful for your tutorial, saved me a lot of money by not having to visit the Honda dealer.
I'm glad you got it working. Thanks again for the update.
I think they quit making ones that actually run a year or so ago.
dignosing a eu1000i with similar results, spark plug was very dirty with lots of build up. I am going to pull the carb next time and clean that too.
First check the spark plug! if its the problem, you'll save time. Add more information about the float, float needle valve and spring. I wasn't expecting the needle valve and almost lost it.
Thanks for the tips!
Nice video ..
Does this have fuel pump? If yes how to repair it?
Yes I think it does although I didn't see it in the video so I'm not sure where its located at.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE thanks brother
@@abdullahnizamani7266 no problem
How do I fix a starter rope onmy honda 1000?
Sorry, but I haven't had to replace a starter rope on one of these.
The generator was running for two seconds because the carburetor is getting clogged up whenever the old gas is very stale 0:55
Actually it's running on the choke.
My engine working prefect but no power, anu idea how to fix it please
unfortunately I haven't had to deal with that problem yet
my Honda gen 2000 has no spark what do you think it good be
my Honda 2000 gen has been running the last couple of days changed oil clean fuel tank put back together now no spark won't start?????
@@gregvandervort407 thank you for the comment. By chance did you take any of the body panels off from the generator? Maybe the on off switch is disconnected. Also I had the same model of generator with no spark and it was the oil level sensor that went bad. I had to bypass it to get it to work.
Good one, I am a new owner
These are very good generators. Can you get 100% gas where you're at?
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE yes ethanol free fuel available, I also use stabl. Airplane fuel is super good for storage if you can get it.
@@bhamptonkc7 unfortunately I can't get av gas.
It works is all that matter to me
that makes sense to me thanks for the comment.
Sure appreciate the video. My wife thinks I'm a genius :)
Nice. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
had a lot of water in the gas had to remove the fuel system and drain no start no spark
Did you remove the fuel tank? I think something must have become disconnected on reassembly.
Well she runs ok now but just ok, there’s a constant hunting/surging going on which is alleviated when I add some choke! Running lean. Further CZcams searching dug up another jet that will definitely be blocked. It’s the low speed or idle jet up under the Eco mode module on top of the carby. I’m going back in.......
Yes it's sounds like it's running a little lean. Even if you need to use the choke a little at least it works. Great diagnostic work.
Have you watched my other video on this genny from my other channel?
It's worth a shot.

@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Just got one of these generators out of my friends garage. how do you test for spark? If I unscrew the spark plug and keep a connected to the coil do I have to touch the sparkplug post to metal to see the spark?
@@brettsiciliano2037 thank you for the comment. Yes the metal of the spark plug must be touching the metal of the engine to see the spark.
Using wire to un clog a jet is a big NO as it can damage the jet
Thank you for the comment
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE how should you unclog the jet?
@@Mattiewall I'd guess with carb cleaner and compressed air
On tthe other hand is it really worth fixing? I mean 1kW?? 2-5 KW is useful....but this? Wat is it even good vor? a powerdrill and a small light?!
You are absolutely correct. Its meant for rv camping, tailgating, and outdoor recreation. Its not meant for powering a small house during power outages. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
We have an RV with a 5500w generator. Also a 2000 and a 1000 Honda. The 1000 easily runs the 32" TV (175w) with enough left over to more than cover a few 12volt LED interior lights and keep the house batteries fully charged. The 5500w Onan is obnoxiously noisey and sucks fuel like crazy so it is only used when we have to run the AC units. When off grid the little Honda is a true godsend and it's fuel consumption is outstanding, Always drain the carb (very simple) on shutdown since I never know when I will be using it again.
@@AAHKLEE thank you for sharing your experience with us I really appreciate it
Great generator until it dont work. Mine runs but dont accelerate on a load
hopefully you can get it working again
Just got mine. Won't start. new fuel. got spark. pull pull pull....junk.....never did run....
Thank you Gregory Meyer. It's worth putting the time into it.
broken timing belt, if you feel when pull like 2 stroke
Thanks!
