Ive been wearing iron rangers for about six months straight right now, eight hours a day walking on my feet inside. So far they've actually exceeded my expectations, the only downside to these boots so far is that they are COLD. Do not expect to wear these outside below freezing all day. Even if you're only outside for a few hours you'll need some thermal socks. They are surprisingly good in snow and slush and even ice.
The other thing I will say is that I found a lot of the youtubers underselling the break in period. These take about 160 hours to fully break in, anyone telling you 40 hours is full of it. After a month or so, they actually get quite comfortable.

I've had a pair of the Amber Harness Iron Rangers since 2016, and they're still going strong! When I first got them I wasn't really aware of proper leather boot care and wore them every day for over 6 months through rain and all sorts of conditions hiking too. The heels started coming un-tacked due to the rand disintegrating. A local cobbler was able to replace the rand and heels. The insole also started curling up around the toes. I later had a full bottom down rework done on them, new insole, V100 lug sole with a leather midsole and storm welt and they are fantastic. My go-to harsh weather boot. I now use cedar shoe trees with them and let them dry out if they get wet.

I just walked though my second pair of iron rangers, bought them in May and wore them almost everyday working 50-60 hours a week doing hvac service/install. Sole stitching on both sides of the “ball” area of the soles is worn away and the sole is starting to separate. I have all four Iron Rangers that come in wide for myself, and purchased in a half size larger the slate muleskinners. Unfortunately they were still too tight, so my son got them instead. I feel like they really are the best boot one step below the PNW boots and with the cobblers around the world who will resole or even recraft, they are probably the best heritage brand model in their niche. That being said, I think a lot of newcomer brands like Grant Stone provide a lot of the other styles with similar level of quality and rebuildability for long life.
Thanks for the videos of all the brands you've done, they help making informed purchases easy!

Hey, love the videos and thanks for giving everyone a chance to win a pair. I wanted to suggest a topic for another video, since you've been showing so many made in USA boots I was wondering whether you would consider taking a look at something Canadian made, specifically Canada West boots. I have a pair of their chelsea's, they're great, but they also make a lot of logging boots and etc. Would love to see how our nation's product compares to others. :)

Another great video Weston, thank you! I’ve had a pair of 8111 IRs for 4 plus years and a pair of 8138 Moc Toes for two plus years. These are my only two pairs of boots (other than snow gear), so they get A LOT of wear. The moc toes are much more comfortable underfoot, but the outsole wears much faster. I also think the mocs are a little more versatile as the IRs strike me as more of a pure workbook look. I also much prefer the leather lined vamp in the mocs over the cotton lining in the IRs, which is showing some wear and likes to hang onto moisture. Overall, I agree with you that the mocs seem like a somewhat better value. I’m probably a few months away from needing a resole on the 8111s, so I plan to have my local cobbler add a leather midsole and use a slightly softer outsole. I think doing that will move the IRs to the next level. Certainly they should be a lot more comfortable underfoot.

Through mud and water , they are not warm by any means but they protect your foot with stability and ruggedness.
And they're stylish. I really like how hard the vibram out sole is , you don't feel any uneven terrain what so ever I.e. sharp rocks and stuff.

I have had about 4-5 pairs of iron rangers over the years. Currently only have two left. The Amber Harness and Black. Still some of my favorites to this day. Considering they were my first pair of "real" boots. Glad to see they're still constructing the boots with the same quality materials they have been using. Lately I've moved on to the PNW brands. First pair was Nicks Builder Pros. Next was JK OT boots. Just got my second pair of Builder Pros in. And waiting on a pair of Superdutys and Forefronts from JK as well.

I adore my 8111 Iron Rangers. The mid sole (or lack there of) as you mentioned, leaves a lot to be desired. I think another layer of veg tanned leather would be awesome and bring the value of the boot higher. That aside I think the boot is fantastic and I would definitely buy another pair.

Those have been a staple for the last few decades. Maybe not as sylist as the heritage boots, but more likely to be bought for work.

Just bought a pair! I've had cowboy boots all my life, and love them. In AZ, every thing has stickers or spines! And snakes and scorpions, But love my Red wings,
Rust colored, I've never spent $350.00 on a pair of boots.
But I rally like them, I'm going through the break in process, the leather is so thick and real! I've already got a blister on my right foot. Gave it a break for 5 days, then started wearing them again, put a cloth bandage over blister area!
I can tell their going to be the best boots I've ever owned. Once they get broke in, and their made in America. And I'm a US navy, gunnersmate, and I'm proud to wear them!
Thankyou, Red Wing, and all the people that work their!

People complain about Iron Ranger comfort, etc. My guess is those fellas have too many boots. Buy the Iron Rangers, (get the right size), WEAR THEM EVERY DAY, break them in, and they just get better and better as the footbed forms. I'm 66 and can work in my concrete floor shop all day in my newer Iron Rangers all day with no issues. This my 3rd pair, and I get 10 years a 2 resoles before I need new boots. I own hunting and hiking boots, but the Rangers are on my feet 6 days a week the rest of the year. Badass boots.

I recently purchased the Iron Ranger 8111 amber harness finally. I am impressed, a really nice boot that fits my foot very well. Although the boot is still a little stiff, I find it to be a comfortable boots that is slightly snug without being tight or pinching the foot. I am liking the Redwing #8 last. I was also surprised that it is lighter in weight than I thought it would be.
