Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games czcams.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

what a beautiful dog! I have a schnauzer and I LOVE him so much. They are the most loyal dogs and he is VERY protective of me. He even nipped at my MOM when she hugged me! I was so relieved when he MISSED! He loves to be ANYWHERE I am and he sleeps on the end of my bed. He's the BEST dog and I am so happy my husband bought him. Usually I would go to a shelter for a dog but my husband had his heart set on a schnauzer. My husband died in 2008 so I was so very happy I had Mac with me. He is my best buddy! Anyway, they are more challenging to groom but I don't do the fancy stuff. He's just my dog!

I am a little amused by those that calls this cruel and abuse. They obviously has never groomed a dog, nor seen a dog that has been neglected in the grooming leaving mats that causes extreme cruelty to the dog. They obviously also have never groomed a schnauzer that loves to try to get away from a boring (yes boring) situation any chance they get. He is really well mannered. Secondly, before these non-experienced people find handstripping videos, they should know that the hand stripping is a form of shedding. The dog hair dies but doesn't release like a regular shedding dog. Stripping the dog will help the hair follicle shed, stimulate a new living hair to grow. The wooly coat on a clippered dog is undercoat and it soaks water and dirt much faster than the stripped top coat that protects the dog from all sorts of weather. The handstripping takes long time to do but in my opinion, I think it benefits the dog if one lives in a outdoorsy environment. I have done both with my schnauzer for years and I personally prefer the wire coat. Great informative video on the breed standard though and you really stack him up nicely!

Great video!! My breeder used to groom my mini schnauzers and she groomed them for the show ring (she also showed her minis). Now after many years and dogs, the 1 1/2 hour drive one way got to be too much. My friend and her two minis from the same breeder would bring her two along. We’d drop them off and go for lunch and shop. So I searched for a groomer here and didn’t like how they were cut so I’ve decided to groom my dogs myself. Years ago I used to groom my dogs. Your video is thorough and it’s going to help me get back to grooming my own dogs. Thank you.

As a hair stylist/cutting educator trying to learn how to groom my new cavapoo, this video is awesome. For those complaining about seeing her back, body position and scissor angle are more important than the line created. You won't get the same result if you do not learn how she is standing. Thank you for the great lesson and perfect camera work that includes both and flashes back to the scissor/clipper details.

+Kelly Smith You have to have passion to do it and raw talent, otherwise you will have a very hard time. When I was in school, by day 2 the teacher was having me help other students. It isn't hard to get your license and graduate, it's just the money involved, being good at it, and getting a job after wards. Good luck!

So happy to find this video. Very good explanations. My mini schnauzer was abandoned in a park with mats that had caused severe problems that had become infected to the point he almost died. This video has helped me learn to groom him since we have been unable to take him to a professional due to his ongoing medical issues. I loved the firm but kind approach to working with Joey. Thanks.

I love the way you interact with Joey while you are grooming him. He is a very lucky dog to have a Mom like you. You do a wonderful job explaining what you are doing and the end result is fantastic. After watching your video I have decided to take mine to a groomer. There are so many techniques to master when grooming that I am intimidated and don’t want to give my guys a substandard grooming. I live in the desert in Palm Springs, CA. Miniature, Standard (not the Giant), Toy and Teacup Schnauzers are popular here. This is a great video which has helped me and my dog tremendously, my miniature schnauzer is far less stressed when I trim her then taking her to the groomers, nice one.

Thanks for sharing! I'm going to give it a try this weekend as I have had such a hard time finding a groomer who can manage a "Schnauzer cut". They all seem to be to much in a hurry to scissor the legs and are not knowledgeable about the head either. My little girl is blind but very, very sweet and patient - I'm hoping patient enough for me! I used to take her to the breeder for her grooming but she would come out tramatized - not sure what was taking place there but it couldn't have been good. You seem to love your little guy. One thing I was hoping to see but didn't - how to manage trimming her tummy area.
I agree with what you say. I don't understand why most other groomers give schnauzers a cocker spaniel style. WHICH IS MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE!!

Bgc imvu, Celticlight1 are both ignorant and idiots. Joey is adorable and beautiful and there was nothing cruel in this video. Certain breeds of dogs have to be groomed, just like humans get hair cuts. One might call a child's first hair cut cruel being they usually cry, kick and scream due to the sound of the clippers....because it's their first hair cut. As you seen in the video, the sound of the clippers did not bother Joey. He was well mannered, stood still (as still as any dog would) and looks great. I have four Schnauzers (lost three to old age) and have always groomed my own. I've never gave my dogs as pretty of a cut as you did Joey. I will play this video the next time I groom mine....and will go out and get the proper scissor and the spray....when you have all the necessary devices, the cut is surely to be better. Thanks for the great video, and for loving your dog as you do. You are wonderful!

his haircut came out really well, and he was very well behaved for a schnauzer usually they buck and kick a lot for me when im trimming the nails and cleaning the ears. Awesome work, great control of the pet

Well, I LOVE the look of Joey's haircut, especially those fluffy legs and clean lines. How lovely!
I comb my mini-Schnauzer Dxtr daily and give him a haircut every 4 to 6 weeks. I don't use a grooming table. I sit on the floor with him and run the Andis pro-animal clippers with #10 ceramic blade (I never bother with the #7 blade on which I wasted money), and afterward trim his nails with the Conair Pro nail grinders. I tried actually clipping the nails once, and misjudged the quick, so he bled all over me, and I felt so terrible for that error. I don't know that I have the patience to keep Dxtr's leg hair that fluffy. At 2 years, his lower leg hair simply is not that long.
