  • To celebrate the start of spring in South Africa, we went on a weekend family camping trip to Dinokeng Resort, situated inside the Dinokeng Game reserve in South Africa.
    Dinokeng Game Reserve is a big 5 game reserve boasting lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino as well as other game such as antelope, giraffe, zebra to name a few. There is a craft brewery as well as other restaurants and accommodation options in the reserve. It is situated about 100 KM north of Johannesburg, near Hammanskraal, in the Gauteng province. The roads are good, and the game reserve is easily found using Waze, Google, or Apple Maps.
    Dinokeng Resort is a lovely camp site featuring a restaurant and bar area, with fantastic swimming pools and water slides. There is also a heated indoor swimming pool and play areas for the kids. For the more adventurous, there are walking and MTB trails, catch and release fishing, bird watching, and game drives. There are a combination of grassed or paved stands, and even stands with private ablutions. The communal ablution areas are clean and are serviced daily. Stands are electrified so there is no need for solar panels. Self catering chalets are also available.
    More information on the campsite, including contact and booking information can be found at dinokengresort...

    My vehicle is a Ford Ranger Wildtrak (Thunder Edition) 2.0l bi-turbo diesel, fitted with a Front Runner Slimline II rack over the load bed, a Front Runner SlimSport rack on the roof, and a Front Runner roof top tent.
    For off-grid power I use a National Luna DC25 power pack fitted with a 100 AH deep cycle battery. The DC25 is wired directly to the vehicle for charging whilst driving, and uses a Jackery 100w solar panel for charging whilst in camp. I have a Dometic CFX 35 litre fridge, which runs off the National Luna DC25. I also have a Jackery 200w Solar Power Station for charging smaller items such as cellphones, camera batteries etc.
    My camping trailer is a Metalian Bowhunter 4x4 off-road trailer, fitted with a Tento Junior trailer top tent, and a National Luna 70 litre fridge / freezer.
    I use the following photographic equipment to shoot my content:

    Check that your strap holding down the green national luna powerbox doesnt prevent the trip switch from tripping when required.

    • @CampSeekerAfrica
      @CampSeekerAfrica  Před rokem

      Thanks Dale. That's a great point - I usually make sure the ratchet strap sits above the trip switch so that it isn't hindered. That was clearly an oversight this trip!
