    I miss when Metroid was a priority for Nintendo. Fusion, Zero Mission, Prime 1-2, plus a few spin offs, all came out within a 4-5 year span.

      Possibly even worse is that a lot of people don't seem to expect Nintendo to prioritze Metroid. For months now I've seen videos uploaded almost every day from one channel or another talking about how 2021 is the 35th anniviverery of Zelda and speculating what Nintendo will do to celebrate it, but no one ever mentions that this is also Metroid's 35. Why should Nintendo prioritize something that no one talks about?

    I feel bad for the people who had to make Kraid’s spritework. They spent so much time making this gigantic monster Samus had to fight, only for speed runners to immediately destroy him with just three super missiles.

    Hmm... I think the black pirate trick at the end was documented on Metroid2004, back in... either 2004 or 2005. And, interestingly enough, a surprising number of _Zero Mission_ 's speed tricks and hidden shortcuts were actually in the official Nintendo Power guide; the Shinespark is basically the only thing that isn't, and the book assumed you knew how to do it from _Super Metroid_ . (I think the only official _ZM_ content that showed how to do it was... I believe it was the game's commercial?)

    6:33 "鳥人族 (chou jin zoku)"

    人 - Person

      I can also definitively say that Zebes is pronounced "zeh-bess," since the Japanese spelling is ゼーベス (zeebesu). Don't let the double E confuse you, it still makes the soft E sound, just extended.

    I was really disappointed to find out that it’s impossible to complete the game without getting the power grip. Not due to a specific obstacle, but because of an arbitrary wall appearing just because you don’t have the power grip.

    • @ventuskitsune4257
      @ventuskitsune4257 Před 4 lety +13

      Developer walls are what they are. Mainly because people like me who may have learned how to infinite bomb jump to get past, which is not too terribly hard in Zero Mission, can easily just die on the path to Ice Beam. That doesn't make it enjoyable because there's also otherwise no clear directive on where to go. It's a little bit of handholding, I know, but it feels like the right kind of handholding compared to just locking the hatch eastward when you first drop down into Norfair the first time. It's a little congratulations easter egg that you're not supposed to go this way, but good job getting there anyhow.

    • @marzipancutter8144
      @marzipancutter8144 Před 4 lety +5

      @@ventuskitsune4257 It just feels weird in a game that's otherwise aggressively wants you to try and skip items, and goes out of its way to let you out of any area no matter how little of the items you should really have at this point are in your possession.

    • @NeverduskX
      @NeverduskX Před 4 lety

      Bit late to the party, but the item they are indirectly forcing on you is the plasma beam (the unknown item), which is required for the last 2 black pirates before you can escape the ship.

    Why is it normal to play using the Japanese version?

    • @MrGeorgeFlorcus
      @MrGeorgeFlorcus Před 4 lety +26

      In most instances, Japanese versions of games are more common because Japanese text takes less time to load onto a screen, because Japanese writing uses fewer characters per sentence than English. Thus, it can be cleared faster than English text.
      Also, in some cases, and this was especially common in older games, Japanese copies of games, being the "earlier" versions of the game, would have minor glitches and technical exploits that would be patched out in international releases, and there are a few speedruns that use those exploits to get the best time.

    • @Sariusify
      @Sariusify Před 4 lety +4

      Japanese is often faster, because they have fewer letters (I think theyre called Kanji) per word, so text is quicker

    • @krunchylex9488
      @krunchylex9488 Před 4 lety +3

      The text in the Japanese version is a bit quicker, which saves a few seconds. It isn't a huge gap, so plenty of folks play on whichever version they have since there are no version-specific glitches.

    • @alexchaffin6265
      @alexchaffin6265 Před 4 lety

      less text pixels, the text is faster

      @Rocky712_ Před 4 lety +2

      Most of the time the japanese is the fastest version.
      In Metroid: Zero Mission in the Any% categories the japanese version is 7 seconds faster than the english language.

      Usually, in a casual playthrough you would fight kraid before ridley. In the speedrun you do ridley first in order to have access to super missles. Since you don’t usually have super missles for kraid, kraid is a curbstomp if you use them.
