I would have never thought a remake of the original film was needed (and haven't even seen that yet), but this looks amazing and brutal.

FlyingOverTr0ut But still unnecessary. The original is still a great one to watch. A true classic. McQueen and Hoffman are superb in it. fantastic! Economically but beautifully shot without flashy 70’s editing bij Franklin J. Shaffner(also directed Planet Of The Apes from 1968, Patton from 1970). A film for the ages. Released in my year of birth 1973! I have it for years and years in my collection on 📀 dvd!
Didn’t think anyone would try a remake. The original is awesome you should watch it. Although it might seem slow by today’s movies.
I think the movie has aged quite well actually. Which would also make think no one would want to make a remake because of this, but this trailer is looking pretty good.
I think it still holds up well, but then I'm old and some movies today seem to be all action just to have all action in order to do well in overseas markets.
Papillon and Luis Dega. A better love story than Twilight. I just watched it and I can't stop crying. It touched my heart and soul. That's true friendship. That's true love. That's the porsuit of freedom. To be free like a butterfly, Like a papillon.
Just finished the film after watching it on Netflix. Absolutely sensational film. Incredible acting from rami and charlie. Oscar winning performances. Sensational acting from the pair. 10/10

It's an awesome movie. Even if the original will never be beaten, this is a good way to bring this inspiring story to new generations
Yeah really bold of them to attempt iconic roles like that knowing they would be compared to McQueen and Hoffman the cinematography might be better but it was those two that made the original as good as it was.
@@AnnaLVajda I wouldn't say the cinematography is better only because it looks more sharp, digital and artificial...The original got more powerful images (and like you say, performances)
If you love the film you should read the books !! They have been my favourite books since I first read papillon at the age of 9 years old, i first read it while staying with my nana who loved both the film and the books, papillon was to be on tv that week back when we only had 3 channels and having your favourite film on tv and it not be xmas was rare and exciting thing lol she told me if I was to watch the film with her I had to read the book first as its better and she's right honestly i probably shouldnt have been doing either but my 9 year old self put down the book I was reading which was on seriel killers ok I was a strange kid 🤣🤣 and started reading and I couldn't put it down I read it it in less than 2 days 😀 I still have that first edition copy I read that day although i soon learnt Banco the second book is very rare and it took me years to find myself a copy im not sure what happened to my nanas copy but i only have her copy of papillon due to i had borrowed it when she died so i just kept it 📚

I saw it yesterday and I must say it was amazing not a single moment where I was bored always on the edge of my seat. Both actors did incredibly well.
This movie was amazing. I haven't read the book or seen the old movie, but I was awestruck, beautiful scenery and a very strong soul touching story.
Having no facts to back it up, I imagine the negative votes are from the original version fans who couldn't stand that it wasn't a copy paste of the old movie.
If you love the film you should read the books and please watch the original as its true to the real story !! I just saw a movie, and i just cant hold myself i commented on many videos. I love movies i watched a lot, and i was never “touched” by the story this much...My heart is full after learning about this man and his lifestory. First words after movie were , you are my hero henri. I dont read books but i promise you i will read his and i found out there is 1 more part ill read it too. Trust me you wont regrest watch this movie plus cast is awesome . 10/10 Henri you really are my hero!

I watched the original as a child, and watched this remake a couple of years back and thought it was good. I watched the original Papillon last night and it made me realise how amazing the original is, a true masterpiece, but also how good the remake is. Stayed true to the essence of the story, pays tribute to the visionary film-making and dream sequences in particular and iconic lines. Bravo all round. Probably the best casting possible twice over

I just watched the original one for the first time today, it was a great movie. I'm looking forward to this one even more because Charlie Hunnam from SOA and Rami from Mr. Robot 😍❤
The book is amazing as well. Henri Charriere hand wrote in notebooks over I think just a few months. Some say parts never happened, but it's still a fascinating depiction of a world you never imagined and a man with an incredible will to live free.
Do not let people with nostalgia of the 70's stop you from watching this. I know the old version was classic. But his version, come on, you will never miss your eyes from looking at the screen from start to the end. Charlie and Rami did a great job! 10/10.

Just finished watching this movie and I'm crying...swear on God, I'm crying....this is a brilliant movie...I just don't know how to express my true feeling right now...I would highly recommend it.... Charlie was fantastic in this movie and what can I say about Rami Malek!!! He in retrospective showed that one day he was gonna win an Oscar...he was just magical...this was not just a story about Prison break,it was a story about a love story(not the one you're thinking) between two men that ended both in freedom and speration... just Loved every second of it...👍👏❤️

I just finished watching it and damn the ending was sad. It gave me chills when Louis Dega said he belongs on the devils island. After serving 5 years of punishment there he knows no better than that he actually belongs there.

Having read the book several years ago, I honestly do not see why this film was rated so low. It was really well directed, melancholic and the performances were stellar. The passage of time was portrayed beautifully. Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek are incredible actors. If you haven't seen this yet, then I highly recommend it (also recommend The Lost City of Z, another Charlie Hunnam film).
Have you read both books ?? If you can find a copy its a rare find I advise reading Banco aswell 😃
Didn't know the movie was rated poorly. If that is true, it's a real indication of how people appreciate low quality movies and can't see real value. Taking a look at the world we live in, I'm not even surprised. I guess it comes down to the people who rated it.
