Rather than relaxing on her net worth of more than $6 million, Amanda Bynes found herself in more trouble than she could have ever expected. What went wrong? What Happened?

Depends on the person, it can be bad even for a normal person that doesn't do what she does but ends sitting home all day for example and eating unhealthy food and growing fat and lose social skills and starts having health issues for how little they move etc.

As an ex husband of a drug addicted woman, I’m gonna tell you this…don’t do drugs, kids. It will ruin your life and bring in people that will drag you down to hell with them. Amanda’s story is a cautionary tale.

Amanda Bynes is one of the prime examples I point to for how Hollywood chews up child actors and spits them back out. Her, Macaulay Culkin, and Lindsay Lohan all had their lives completely derailed by the stresses of working in an environment as toxic as the film and TV industry and I genuinely feel bad for them for it. It doesn't surprise me one bit how Amanda Bynes descended into substance abuse and mental health problems and I genuinely hope that the day eventually comes when children in Hollywood are able to be protected from ending up like they did.

I have a friend that retired at 24 and he's 34 now and doing completely fine. He has hobbies, reads a lot, goes out with friends and his girlfriend.
This isn't about retiring early, this is about drug abuse.
I think it's more about having no purpose in life. She was fine and sober each time she got herself a purpose ie fashion school and her boyfriend... but once those are gone, she relapsed. She should find a purpose in life that makes her happy, and keeps her busy everyday

Yeah I know someone who retired at 29 and he was fine, but after calling friends to hang out and getting snubbed because they were working and he was eating cereal in his underwear he decided to open a couple businesses. It's about keeping busy, whether that means working or hobbies

It's not about retiring early, it's about keeping yourself busy after you're done with your job. If you have hobbies, passions, sports or anything else you enjoy doing, why not spend the time you have now on those things? (if money isn't an issue anymore) Sadly, Amanda didn't seem to have a purpose in her life after she quit acting and fell prey to substance abuse instead.

i mean thats the problem tho isnt it. its not easy finding a passion. the difference between hobby and passion is that hobbies will eventually get boring if u do it enough but passions would take a whole lot longer to get sick of doing or needing a break. people spend there life looking for one and never finding it, its not something anyone can find easily.

My sister went to FIDM with her....she never had a class with her, but he roommate did and apparently Amanda was exactly how you think a trainwreck celebrity would be. She was entitled, rude, and sometimes high. Everyone talked about her at school and nobody wanted to deal with her, she was not doing well and everyone could tell

You can tell how poorly her self image was fr considering she kept calling everyone around her ugly, not only is it just her projecting her feelings of being ugly onto others, but clearly she thinks that being ugly is the absolute worst thing and makes your opinions irrelevant, and makes it so you cant check someone into a hotel. For her, being ugly is the worst possible thing someone can be and she wants to convince herself she is not that. 😢

She has bipolar disorder and IIRC the period of calling everyone ugly and declaring what cosmetic surgery procedures she wanted was during a manic episode. Her perception of herself and others was skewed due to the mood episode
I’m a woman who went through and passed that phase myself, and I can 100% vouch for the fact that it’s projected insecurity, speaking from my own experience of doing it myself. It’s sad
Ive been called ugly many times and treated horrible just for not being pretty, then i had plastic surgery and im traditionally attractive now and let me tell you, the world is a different place... People are really nice, ever door opens, men give me attention, people want to know me and what i have to say, i get health care... Before that i never had that. So, being ugly is actually maybe the worst, but most people are not ugly and they dont realise it has such an impact
I watched the Amanda Show on Nickelodeon as a kid and watched pretty much all of her movies...I was and still am so sad about what has happened to her and I keep trying to stay hopeful that each stint in rehab/getting psychiatric care will help her get out of this awful spiral she's gotten herself into. Only time will tell, but I really really hope she gets the help she so sorely needs and continues to get it so she can stay healthy and find happiness.
It's entirely possible. I am around the same age as her and have had similar addiction and mental health problems. I was an absolute train-wreck in my 20s and even until my early 30s.
I only got sober around 3 and a half years ago.
I now have a great life, am married and have a fulfilling career, but most of the people I knew who went down my path (I.V. drug use) are either dead or are still fucked.
The challenge she faces though is being in the public eye, which I believe makes it 1000X more difficult than people like me.

The career and life of Frankie Muniz is a pretty good counterpoint to the "never retire in your 20s" argument. Muniz rose to fame from Malcolm in the Middle and quit full-time acting in his early twenties. He now spends his life racing, being in a band, and the occasional movie cameo. You can retire at any age, you just need to have both the wealth/income to sustain your preferred lifestyle and to have a lifestyle that gives you meaning.
I wouldn't say he retired since racing is a career in a sense. He just quit acting. Amanda just straight up did nothing but drugs.
Same with Daniel Radcliffe, he hasn’t retired but just does whatever he wants.

My father retired from the military at 25 due to breaking his back. It usually turns out this way if you aren’t family oriented in my experience. Focusing on raising a fam and continuing to work on things kept him busy

I think early retirement is fine. Just….you know, don’t live beyond your means, do SOMETHING with your time, stay away from substance abuse, and be careful who you let in your life.

Yup… retirement is a death sentence for some people. My boss retired and moved to Florida. 3 weeks later he returned and simply said. If I retire I’ll drink myself to death, but if I work myself to death I’ll see my grandkids grow up.
This makes me sad as someone who grew up watching her as a kid (we are around the same age and I also struggle with marijuana substance abuse, but I’ve not let my life get to her level).

Exactly, they have never been children, working from the early age, usually being pushed by their parents and the managers. By 24 they have worked 14+ years.
I know Justin bieber is not an actor but he had a similar upbringing but even thought how bad people made him look, he still didnt do as bad as Amanda.

I retired in my late 20's from the military after an injury... it's not a living hell at all. Amanda Bynes turned her potential heaven into her own real life hell. If you don't make dumb assed decisions you can live a pretty nice life just taking it all in. Being caught up in a career often times numbs a person's ability to connect with what's really going on... which is, almost everything we do is based on an imagined purpose created to cope with the cold reality that, beyond keeping the species going we really have no other purpose. Life doesn't have any goals, it only has purpose... just existing is good enough, a lot of people - most people - forget or never understand this about life and end up wasting their time on a job they took too seriously. Time you will never, ever get back for any amount of money or prestige.
Truly one of the saddest examples of a child star hitting rock bottom. She was so talented and could have gone on to be one of the greatest performers of our time. It’s so tragic what mental health problems and substance abuse can do to a person so quickly. If she continues the way she’s going I wouldn’t be surprised if she dies before the age of 40.
Steady on, nothing indicated she would be one of the best of our time.

As a 29 year old who watched early 2000's Nickelodeon religiously through my childhood its absolutely heart-breaking to see what's happened to Amanda. Hope she can get better.
I really do hope she can get sober and stay clean. I've never met her of course, but my heart goes out for the pain and misery she must be going through, not to mention how terribly she has embarrassed herself on a national stage.

Marijuana triggered schizophrenia for her. It's happening to a lot of young people now, especially since the weed and vapes are so much stronger than they used to be. This happened to my cousin. He smoked a ton of weed (smoking all day, every day) when he was 15-18, and then he went crazy. The doctors surmised that his intense weed use at such a young age triggered psychosis. He's doing better, but he's on a bunch of meds that can make him seem out of it.
Go easy on the weed, kids. You never know.

Its not the weed. The problem is sourcing it. It's likely your cousin and Amanda had smoked some laced marijuana along the way. Weed laced with something like PCP or a strong substance could absolutely induce psychosis. I'm not gonna say that weed is harmless and that it isn't habit forming. It is. In lots of people, it lowers drive or desire to be more. Makes you lazy. Also anything set on fire and inhaled is not good for the lungs. Its a waste of money. I smoked for 15 years, recently quit but there were times where I easily spent something like 500 a month smoking. I always had very reliable connections, and was only ever duped into smoking something laced when I was 13. Hit a bowl laced with cocaine. Again, i think laced weed is to blame for psychosis.

I’ve smoked all day everyday since I was 14 and have still been able to hold down a normal 9-5 and smoke on my breaks and I mean I can smokeee but it really does depend on the person. Im now 26 still smoking daily and still able to go about my normal life you’d honestly never know I smoked but my neighbour on the other hand is a 34 year old man who smoked from a young age and he ended up with psychosis because of it and has now been sectioned so again it really does depended on the person.

Yeah, the exact same thing happened to my mate. He was a chronic weed smoker throughout his entire teens then lost the plot when he was around 17/18. I always remember he would tell me crazy things like how he got in a fight with Mike Tyson and stuff like that. He even got sectioned at one point.
It's honestly really sad to see such a misguided girl end up like this... she just needed help :(

Crazy to think that stories like this really show that as a child actor, life can be extremely difficult if you do not have the right support or people around you. Kind of gives me Shia LeBeouf vibes but at least he is doing well in some way.
I personally couldn't picture myself retiring and less as such early age. I think you should always have a vocation in your life (not necessarily a wage job or something like that but even that in some cases work), something that give you some kind of motion, purpose and conflict. Give up that by surrebder to your own vices and desires is only going to wreck your life.

Literally if you just occupy yourself with a hobby or something to work on whilst retired, you can avoid these kinds of issues. She went on the drugs leading to her awful mental state because she was bored if you boil it down
It's mindblowing how she didn't serve a single prison time. She was caught high while driving, assaulted a security guard, lit a person's driveway on fire and many more illegal stuff and not a single arrest. It's really important to feel like you're doing something of value with your life. I feel like she would find value in separating herself from the environment she's in and spending time doing some soul searching, in a place that nourishes her soul. She's clearly miserable, with no other way to cope or occupy her time. She's a charismatic young woman, with incredible talent. Maybe the limelight just isn't a healthy environment for her. I'm sure there's ways she could make great contributions to something incredible, and also avoid scrutiny on a grand scale which she cannot cope well with. If she had a core group of people that cared about her well-being, I bet she'd be golden.

Can't help but notice her go-to is to say she doesn't do things that she clearly does. She doesn't seem to realize that people can see more than just what she says. This is pretty common with narcissists, since they can't imagine that they're not outhinking everybody.

I remember liking her "Dear Ashley," segments in "All That!" along with any segment that had both Kenan and Kel back when I was 7.
Then I developed a crush on her when "The Amanda Show" was on Nick.
The last thing I saw her in was "Hairspray," then she just disappeared, and I had no idea why.
If you are fortunate enough to be able to retire in your 20s, it is possible to have a fulfilling life provided you are a well-rounded person with lots of interests you are passionate about. Otherwise boredom will set in along with the substance dependency that comes with it.

Regardless of drugs and mental illness, 6 million is not that much money to retire on at 24 years old….Is it doable?…Yeah, if you live on a “normal person” budget of $80k-$85k a year….She was clearly spending way more than that though 🙄
You're thinking of just spending $6 million. If you have that kind of money you'd be advised to invest it and make it work for you; property, high interest bank accounts etc.

I've been working my whole life. She's literally just 24. That doesn't equate to a whole life. This is what happens when you have no family to guide you. Just a young girl that has too much money at a young age and no purpose in life other than being nothing.

I think you are miss characterising Amanda Bynes “retiring” - she is struggling with mental health issues and (maybe still is) struggling with substance abuse issues. People say things they might regret later, or be out of character, even more so when you are under the stress of a break down.
yeah I’m ngl, the average person who retires at 24 would probably start a hobby or travel the world, explore new activities and enjoy the time by having fun, she just seemed lethargic and not mentally stable tbh
I’ve retired in my 40’s. People ask me if I’m going to “do anything.”? I reply that the only reason people work is money and that working even one second longer for someone else is just unacceptable. It pisses people off because a young retired person is a living reminder that work is really something none of us want to do.
What’s sad is people around the world are this way but yet only celebrities get notice

It's incredibly difficult to witness the undeniable demise of an incredibly successful, beautiful, kind, witty young lady and how horrifyingly she was treated by the entirety of the media, scoffers & so called friends and family, and I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that there was something far, far more sinister at play that was the reason for such a catastrophic spiral of unnatural proportions in this young ladys life, and all played out on the world stage for the stupified masses to revel in her demise. It was one of the most unpleasant events to see unfold. I wish her every success & hope she finds the peace she so richly deserves.

Drugs can amplify an underlying mental illness, especially things like ptsd. It's not like the movies where you see some 40-50 year old dude whose mellow and still taking drugs and has a full time career. Reality is it will cost you everything.

This breaks my heart everytime I'm revisited with the fact that this was what went down. I remember when I was a child and I used to watch 'The Amanda Show', always found her remarkable in more areas than one. I remember watching Hairspray at the Cinema and wowed because of how beautiful she was.Good acting ability, charm, very beautiful. Infact, I used to think she was one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen then boom a massive decline.. She doesn't even seem like the same person remotely anymore, her face changed, her expression changed, her personality seems different (not that I knew her) and even her voice has changed.

she was my role model growing up i love her so much i cant but feel heartbroken to see her suffer so immensely :( its not a coincidence that every star without a loving support system in form of family and or friends is left to be torn apart by the cruel reality of show business. this is wrong on every level, none of those amazing talented people deserve this fate. when will this end ????

I went to high school with Amanda Bynes, no one thought she was a "good girl." Everybody thought she was hot af and it carried her through life.
