I hunt anything that moves. I use 3 bows, each with its own arrow type in order to avoid switching between them, you know on a console the game is a little harder for simple things. Hawk Edge CB - 70 with 600 grain arrows, Koter Orpheus with 420 grain arrows and Koter Hephaistos with 300 grain arrows. Slow walk, crawl/crouch a lot, wait for the moment, never rush your game, soft feet works best.

I would just add that without zeroing perk crossbow is set for 10m and using heavy bolts the bottom dots translate to 30 and 50, med and light bolts will overshoot tho. Same goes for bows, mid pin will be 40m, 70lbs works best with heavy arrows, while 60 with meds for long shots. And yes, crossbow is surprisingly loud as in spook radius.
I like the game mechanics! Like the idea that the wind actualy affects the arrow, so sad that it's not really realistic.
Because of the feathers on the back of the arrow, the wind diverts it towards the wind in reality. Quite the opposite as it diverts other projectiles.
It's still just a game - a very fun game :)
I like the hawk edge bow actually used it to kill a diamond fallow deer and the reason why I use it over the other compound bow is the 70lbs draw equals more power and penetration but all of them definitely get the job done

I was on parque fernando the other day, dialing in my bows, when I heard an axis deer. Ended up following it right into a lake that was filled with red deer.
Spotted two mythical red deer owning the north end and just as soon as I saw them, 145m out, they both looked right at me and spooked.
The different arrow/bolt weights also behave different depending on which bow is used. I pick the bow I want to use and then go to the range and use all the different ammo weights for practice. The pumping iron perk also changes the ammo behavior. If I hunt with the bow as my main weapon I reset the perks and skills for bow hunting, it can make a big difference. True. Last time I tested them, the 600s weren’t affected by the wind as much as the 420s but there was difference this time. They must have changed it.
I have used each one. And the compound bow Is my favorite one, crossbow is very difficult to use and the long/recurve bow are super difficult to use.

I love bow in COTW. Most of my kills overall are with bows. I use CB-70 for highest dmg.
What I love most about bow is fact that you can kill everything - like every croc on coast, several animals from same herd on same place without spooking others. You really do not need to worry about hunting pressure. Chasing bisons and bantengs with bow is great fun - you can clear entire herd easily. And arrows covers all classes and weight nothing. I always take bow with me all the time!
What I would love to add to Lady's video: game considers arrow weight, so they all fly to different distance.
Go to range and train 30/50/70/80 and 100m hits with all arrows - yeah pen and paper or excel spreadsheet will help you. Regarding 100m range I shoot crocs on coast at 100m and in one go I kill ALL the crocs on the beach, if you aim right they drop instantly and if they are hit and go into water they will almost always die after some swimming. Shooting range is boring to me, this is better training. And you get cash from it. Btw if crocs (wolfs or whatever) attacks you and you have bow with right arrows ready (or with heaviest arrow one if its about survival for you) its easiest way to defend yourself ;)
Rangefinder I find incredibly stupid and annoying to press R, this just delays your shots. After some shooting with bow, you would be pretty accurate in judging distance between you and animal - some times I dont even bother to use binoculars to meassure distance (20/40m). Animals are pretty much same size. Easier to guess than you think.
I am using 3dots sights because its less distracting sight for bow.
Tips for 3dots sight: zero @ 20m and aiming on red dot = 80m, zero @ 60m and aiming on red dot is 100m. Regarding wind at 100m if wind is going against you, go to 95m, if wind blows from behind you go to 105m -> wind moves your arrows by +/- 5% of distance ! Its not much and when I shoot at 60m and closer honestly I dont check wind too much.
But lets get back to real bow hunting in the forest. Typical situation your dog is tracking dead animal and suddenly you hear "warning call". I immediatelly stop moving and reach to my remote caller. Then I quickly check my surroundings and position caller ideally somewhere in the side or back so I can see it from some distance (I just dont wanna sit behind and it helps me check distance if some animal comes from back). And my dog is good girl, so I always position her in the back, but not too much so she wouldnt run to me if I decide to move out. Then I crawl to nearest "best tree" with cover and clear view and I prepare possible good covers. When caller is doing its thing. I always meassure distance to nearest tree stones etc. So when animal get near that tree I know it is 50m away from me. And I double check correct arrows and set up zero range to possible distance based on visibility. And I wait. Animals usually make call right before they reach horizon. After this warning call I adjust my position - I will have time to move to other tree if my view is terrible in that direction. When I see animal I check its distance. If its 60m I go for it (my goal is to kill any animals), but I wait a bit if other better male shows up.
When everything is lined up perfectly you can hit even 3 animals before they run away. And because its bow you dont have to worry about hunting pressure :)
When I go aggressive and go towards animal, then I crawl, prone till I get to your position. Also if animal is 130m away from me, under horizon and at the edge of horizon is tree I check its distance. If it looks like distance from that tree to animal is 20/40/60m then I go to that tree and and my first check is with drawn bow, if animal hasnt moved I aim and shoot without measuring distance.
Ofc if there is high value target I double check everything and for those I go to 40m and if its a must kill I go to 20/30m.
Also what I hate about bow in COTW is the zeroing skill. I would love to use 5pin sight which is actually designed for it! But with zeroing you cant rely on sight and you always have to check zeroing :( I wish they removed zeroing from bows. Live would be VERY simple.
Crossbow? Well its draw power is insane, but thats all. Bow is super strong too and if u spec for maximum dmg via perks you dont need more draw power than you get from bow. I use crossbow only when I am bored shooting ducks with .25lr, but its reload speed is very bad. Crossbows are great if u want animal to die instantly on the spot (like those quick kill missions on class 9 animals) - there is no other better weapon for it.
Go to range and get familiar with 30/50/70/80/100m shooting and please dont use that rangefinder, its very dumb to use and you really dont need it. You wanna be real bow hunter in COTW? Drop rangefinder :)

Personally I don't like firing from a prone position since more often than not your bullet or arrow will collide with the geometry in front of you due to wonky hitboxes specially in places with uneven terrain, rocks, trees, etc. I go into a crouching position from prone, aim and shoot just before the animal spooks.

Extremely helpful video, thanks Lady! I’m new to this game, just started last week. I tried various weapons and decided to use the long bow as my main choice. Just because I practice bow shooting sometimes in reality, and that long bow in game looks almost the same with my own bow. Bow hunting really makes the game even harder, but I think they did a good job on balance of reality and fun.

Thanks it's great to know ammo is free on the range ,that has stopped me going up til now as its crazy you can't get any arrows back until you've completed the tree [You would think it would be an early unlock as by the time you get that far you have plenty of money for arrows lol]Now I know I'll be up there practicing alright .

I love bow hunting in this game. For me it strikes the perfect balance between realism and fun and it feels incredibly rewarding when you first start getting kills with the bow. Even if it's just fallow deer.
The shooting range on Parque Fernando is my fav for practicing with the bow and crossbow.

I'd love to see them add wind control to the Archery Range. - Pick wind direction and magnitude. It appears you can mostly ignore wind inside about 25 yards or if the green wind triangle touches the vertical line of your facing (so if aiming directly N - then if the Green Wind Triangle is to either side of N but touching the N-S line). At least out to 100 yards - if it's touching the perpendicular then you want to give it quite a bit of windage (only practice will help)

@@LadyLegendXO that would be fantastic. Ideally, direction and magnitude I'm not sure if windspeed is on a continuous scale or step (e.g. 1,2,3... or 0, 5, 10 kind of thing) but to really see what's going on, we'd need to set the kinds of conditions we see in-game.
Great video! Man, I could’ve used this when I was getting started. I know you can generate more noise based on how you’re loaded out. When you say you run until a certain distance, walk to a certain distance, then sneak- what does that translate to in noise bars? When I run, I am making 1 or 2 red bars depending on terrain. Should I lighten my load? I already go without a backpack to help with this. (Favorite bow is the compound. Crossbow too wonky right now and longbow and recurve are just too hard for my simple mind.)

I went back to the Bearclaw CB-60, switching between the tritium and that rangefinder sight, I have been noticing the Bearclaw is very silent, and I also enabled the Pumping iron perk.

just picked up the game during the steam winter sale and bought a few dlc already. i like the longbow, but that's just my preference. i got the high tech dlc, but that bow sways differently than the longbow. it's easier for me to hit 9/10s consistently w/ the longbow up to 35m, but with the high tec bow, i can hit 50 and 75m more consistently. although the wind really messes with me at those distances.
just noticed that the animation is a little weird w/ the trad bows. i think in one of your shots your char is holding under the grip and shooting at the grip instead of at the nocking plate, but oh well. still new, but enjoying the game so far.

I was aiming at a level 2 white tail in rancho with the 270 soft point bullets at 330 meters and i shot at the heart but it didn’t penetrate enough to reach the heart I aimed right below his neck it was zeroed in at 300

Thank you for explaining how to get close to animals. Do you run at all when hunting? How do you know when to slow down or crouch? I guess it comes with experience :) Also, do you ever wear a pack?
You're welcome! I run a lot! I slow down about 150 meters from water or stop at a warning or mating call and look around and start walking til about 100 meters then I crouch and spot. I never wear a backpack! Spooks diamonds away before you know they're there! You want the pack mule skill for extra carrying space and no extra noise - 3kg!
@@LadyLegendXO OK, thanks! I actually bought this game for the bow hunting. I prefer the challenge, however I've mostly used the rifles as a beginner because it's easier. Now that I'm on SRP I think it will be a good opportunity to switch to bows.

Hi lady, why when I use rangefinder bow sight, after the range is set, I have to aim higher than the green dot? especially at 75m and above. I saw lot of videos in youtube , they just aim at the center of green dot. Is it something to do with zeroing perk?
Definitely because of the zeroing perk. You have to have all of the points in it and have it activated and set to the correct zeroing.
What would be the best bow hunting map??
This is a nice video but I’m wondering if there are specific animal species I should and shouldnt use Bow on. Will it affect the cash reward if I use bow on wrong animals?
No, make sure you have the proper arrows and you'll be fine

I like using the regular bows. But I get the bow pulled and get nervous with the shot and mess it up more often than i would like to admit. So I have been cheating and using the crossbow.
Crossbow isn’t cheating. It’s just a different kind of bow but if you want to get better, you need to practice! 😊😊😊

The traditional bows in this game throw me off a bit since you need to aim with the tip of the arrow but in real life that would mean you are aiming too high since you wouldn’t hold the arrow at eye height (if you do then I suppose it’s correct but it’s very uncommon in the west)
um i kinda had a hard time watching you in the target range cuz for some reason there is a red light blob thing. idk what that is but i couldnt see anything :D

some look at a compound bow and see a high-tech awesome weapon .. but for me they spoil the looks and aesthetic beauty of archery ... yes they drill them arrows in there at great speed .. but if all I want is killing efficiency then a rifle is even better and more accurate .. so for me a beautiful recurve is the ultimate thing of beauty as far as archery is concerned .. beautiful to look at and simple and deadly
