- If you've watched my channel at all in the last year you know I love Barenbrug RPR so when a chance to put some down at my new lawn showed up I jumped on it. Here is what I did to put down the rye in Florida with warm season grass.

Would love an update! Did your perennial ryegrass come back after the hot Florida summer? Thinking of doing this myself. I expect the ryegrass to go dormant in the summer, but hope it comes back in the fall/winter when the temps cool down again. Keep up the great work!

This northern guy all out of his element planting northern grass in the south, you’re going to be reel mowing Saint Augustine soon if you’re not careful 😝🤣😂 lol jk I’ve seen plenty of guys in AZ, TX, GA all overseeing annual rye. I can’t imagine this wouldn’t work. I’d be really curious how long you can keep it going into summer though without it totally getting smoked lol. Nice to see you enjoying FL!

I’m enjoying it and bet next winter I’m throwing Rye in my Swales by the road for sure 😁🤘🏼
I over seed ryegrass every year in Florida.it works great.
going to look great in a couple of weeks, I'm hoping to do more work on my own personal yard this year as I neglected it pretty bad last year 🙏🤞

Update on how long the overseed fared, and if that whole RPR got you a good percentage back the next fall?

I know Brett hates the Aug but.....
Mixing it in your landscape with a reel mowed Bermuda or similar low cut grass looks very unique. Dons lawns inspired my recent renovation but I used sod not seed 🥴🤘🏼
I live in MN. Thinking of doing a complete lawn reno of my new house. Would RPR with the yellow jackets coating be a good choice?
Rye is a great choice but you will have to overseed every fall to keep it full.
How is St. Augustine a weed?!
My experience with perennial rye is that it dies off in the summer, especially in Florida. Having trouble growing grass on a slight sloped yard. Torrential rain washing most of the seeds down the slope. Recently seeded with argentine bahia and Pensacola bahia with little results, thinking about adding more Pensacola bahia mixed with perennial rye but it’s July in Florida!
I just bought a house in Ocala. It’s the end of August and I just overseeded with Pensacola Bahia and it came in just fine

This will only be good until Temps go back up. Then I'll feed the Bermuda and have that take over.

Rye is BACK
I used PRG when I first moved in to my home in florida, was great until the real heat came, but I did work to cover the ground and hold back some weeds. St first I hated my St Aug but slowly starting to love it

Where can I buy a 50lb bag of RPR? Every place I’ve looked appears to be sold out. RPR looks like it would be the perfect solution for my cool season fall reseed/overseed.
Jason you can find it on Amazon, I actually reached out to barenbrug after "Do my own" was on back order for two months they pointed me in that direction $149 for a 25# bag

Seen some lil basterds in my sod
Insecticide should not hurt the sod but make sure the read the label and see if it specifically mentions "newly established sod"

Looks a lot better but I give that Rye about Two months and it will be cooked. I've seen other people use PR as winter covercrop in Florida and it doesn't ever make it through "summer"( I mean when isnt it summer there), But by april- may its done for

Really wish you would put down Zoysia in the back just to give us Zoysia owners some content in the coming year. Allyn does a good job, but he is just to much in love with his St. Augustine grass.
