  • Google Pixel 8a and Samsung Galaxy A55 are both the latest midrange phones with a similar price tag. Google Pixel 8a shines at the camera, but Galaxy A55 has a larger display and a bigger battery capacity. The question is, which one is right for you? In this video, I compared the Samsung Galaxy A55 vs. the Google Pixel 8a in terms of camera, battery, thermals, and more. Google Pixel 8a has the latest Tensor G3, while Samsung A55 comes with Exynos 1480.

    Thx for the comparison! I recently bought the a55, coming from apple I wanted to try android for a reasonable price and got the a55 with 256gb storage at 380€, hence about 200€ less than the 8a would have cost. I am pretty happy with it so far, but the camera autofocus botheres me a bit since many pictures come out shaky compared to my iphone experience, esp wirh the selfiecam.

    3:10 definitely not a hot take, on budget phones a single *good* camera is infinitely better. It's crazy how budget phones waste money putting 1-2 completely useless cameras on something that's already very stretched on budget.

      @serrael-182 Před 25 dny

      Even my s21 has 2 useless cameras. If i take 50mp pics they are the same as 10mp 3x zoom. And my wide angel is probably broken but never was really good...

    • @swecreations
      @swecreations Před 25 dny

      @@serrael-182 I find the wide-angle to be nice for filming car videos, or other action content, but that's really only something you should add once you've already gotten a very good main camera (like the S21 already has). So find the addition of that to at least be justifiable.
      On something like the Zenfone 10 it's very obvious that it doesn't really need a telephoto as the main camera already does a good job of zooming in, you should really only be adding that on $800+ phones like the S24 Ultra-series where you're already pinching at straws trying to extract more camera performance than you already have.
      Definitely agree with you on it being a waste putting that in the S21. It's especially crazy on something like the Samsung A05s where they've put two completely useless 2MP cameras in addition to the ordinary one. At that point I rather have you just put in blanks there.
      The Motorola Moto G Play actually does that right, it has an incredibly good camera for a $150 phone, and the flash is put into a second "camera hole" making it look like a dual camera phone without wasting tons of resources.

      It feels like 5G drains the battery a lot on the 8a.. and often when I check, it says It only has 4G but speed tests show 5G speeds, so I almost guess Google has put the modem to be in 4G unless it needs more speed and then upgrades to 5G to save battery. But that is just something I guess, no proof.

    • @paultasker7788
      @paultasker7788 Před 24 dny

      5G drains battery faster on A55 as well. Especially in areas where 5G might be weak/intermittent. It puts the standby drain up too. Whereas on 4G mode the phone holds a nice strong clean signal. And 4G is fast enough for most stuff. If I need 5G can put it on for a bit. My A55 is averaging 9 percent/hour drain screen on and 1.7 percent/hour screen off which includes a bit of Bluetooth streaming, I'm constantly hooked up to a fit bit and there is a GPS location tracking app always on. The pixel 7a I had before was 11 percent/hour and 2.9 percent/hour using same apps and similar usage. So that difference looks to be about what you achieved as well. The only situation when the pixel was less power hungry was running Google maps in a convertible with the roof down. Then powering that big screen at max brightness the A55 drains quicker. You might only get a little over 5 hours of screen on doing this. Pixel very good at this with the smaller screen.

    Here in Indonesia, Samsung A55 is half the price of Pixel 8a which is a no brainer for a brand new midrange with 8/256GB under $350.

      The thing is, comparing cameras is subjective, and part of it is also about how the colors in the scene were compared to how the camera captured them:
      - 05:01 Linus's ears are white, not orange.
      - 08:10 The background (sky) on the A55 is overexposed, so you see it white instead of the colors that were there.
      - 01:55 The pictures are noisy on the A55.
      - 01:40 The sky is way too dark on the A55; compare it to the picture of the sky a few seconds ago.
      - 07:38 Again, the same problem on the A55: the windows appear yellow even though there was no yellow light shining on them.
      Samsung oversaturates pictures and increases the contrast too much for my taste, but maybe someone else prefers this style.
      You can also check the DXOMark of Pixel 8a and A55:

      www.dxomark.com/samsung-galaxy-a55-5g-camera-test/

      @paultasker7788 Před 24 dny +1

      Is that with most recent update because the newest version should have fixed the yellow problem. It fixed it on mine. Colours are now very natural and much less oversaturated to the point where some say it's been made worse (shows how subjective these things are). Really Samsung should just give us a slider for saturation that we can save to our own preference. I don't notice the horrid over processing on the pixel that my 7a suffered from. Like 4 Instagram filters had been added. The difference doesn't look massive though pixel looks slightly cleaner.

    Actually, for me the camera is not a major thing I use so the A55 is fine. I am going to buy a new phone in 2 weeks and I am going to get an A55 as for me it looks a lot better than the Pixel 8a and as for one handed use...I also don't use my phone one handed very often and it isn't in my hand 24/7 which is something that I find kind of sad with society today.

      My old A52s 5G is much better than my Pixel 8a for one handed use, so I can not see the A55 being worse. Just the navigation arrow is on the left on google.. so you have to reach it with your thumb, and you can feel that in your hand after a day of use, while I never had that problem on the A52s since its easy to reach.
