  • The American multi-instrumentalist Julius Rodriguez (in this concert on piano) plays with his trio the songs 'Gift Of The Moon', 'Two Way Street' and 'Starmaker' (a Roy Hargrove cover) live at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2023 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Anyone looking to understand Julius Rodriguez's super fertile imagination and musical drive for innovation must take a deep dive into his origins and past. The 24-year-old multi-instrumentalist grew up in a suburb of New York, but has Haitian roots. His parents instilled in him a love of jazz and soul, and he became fascinated at a very young age by the classical piano playing that he heard weekly in the local church. He studied at the Manhattan School of Music and Juilliard School before touring with rapper A$AP Rocky. As an artist, Rodriguez likes to venture beyond the standard boundaries, blending and mixing styles such as gospel, jazz and hip-hop until it becomes (in his own words) “the music”. Through his maverick creative thinking, talent and boldness, he has evolved into one of the most exciting young innovative musicians and composers of his generation.
