Man, you've got a lot of 45s, Joe. You could open up a record store, if you wanted. So many classics too. They bring back so many good memories. I wish I could back to when some of them were popular.

Hi Joe, I agree with you about the 80's being the last decade of quality music, although, I do like a lot of "Grunge Rock". I still have the first 45's I bought with my hard earned "Baby Sitting" money (Homeward Bound,I fought the Law, Fortunate Son,This Diamond Ring.) We do need more "Happy Music". Thanks Joe for some great memories !

+Cindy Urban - I have been discovering that there were still some decent songs scattered around during the 1990's, so I will grudgingly include them when I now say "The 20th Century was the best time for quality music". But by the time we got to the year 2000... forget it! :)

Im just in the middle of re organizing my 45 collection in alphabetical order , seems ive got about 80 % of your collection . Its Kool to see them in the original Paper Company Sleeves . I used to throw them away and use the green cardboard sleeves , Now im trying to get back the Original Sleeves . You have a great collection . I find your Videos interesting. Thanks.

Excellent Collection of 45's! Mine is of a narrow Genre, I have a collection from 1955 thru 1973... Still you have an Excellent collection because like you, there are good songs in later years! My average cost of my 45's are 10 cents and 25 cents it seems that locally in Portland Oregon, no one seems to care about the Genre that I like. All my records are in very good to practically new condition.

Great video Joe, and I agree with you. The best music ever in my opinion was in the 50's, 60's, 70's 80's. There are some songs I like now that I hear but not very many!!!! Looking forward to watching the rest of your 45 videos.

Great 45 collection! I'm getting back into picking up quite a few myself. Mainly 60's British Invasion, garage and psych stuff for now. Got a lot of those 80's singles as promos when I worked in the record biz, but sold them off several years ago. 50's-60's 45's are not stocked in my local used record stores as much as they once were unfortunately.

I'm with you all the way Joe, on all those late sixties, early and mid 70's supposedly "corny" stuff. So many of those songs are dear to my heart, especially some of those one hit wonders, like "Sky High" by Jigsaw. It's nice that you have older stuff like Teresa Brewer and Johnny Mathis too. - I guess I'm even more old school than you are Joe, for me after 1975, I gradually become less and less interested, but there definitely were nice songs here and there after the "golden age".

    • @MeanMrMayo
      @MeanMrMayo  Před 10 lety

Right On, Thomas!! Yeah, I learned stuff like Teresa Brewer from records that my mom and/or grandparents had when I was a kid. Oh God, early '70s stuff on the AM radio --- loved it!! -- Thanks a lot for watching and commenting so much, man.

  • @Paneeks1960

    Hello Joe,
Some of the picture sleeve singles were fun to look at. Some of them were giving me flashbacks of working at Strawberries records in the late eighties and early nineties. You had quite a few eighties domestic singles.
I must say that stopping liking music in the 80's may be detrimental to finding new bands/artists that you may like. There are so many great bands that are coming out to this day. Take Vampire Weekend for example. They are a perfect young band for you to check out. They just have what it takes to write a catchy song the way that bands did years ago.
I never try to promote music in the VC Joe but I really think you should give these young guys a listen. Here is a cut off the new album 'Vampires Of The City'. Should be nominated for Best Album Of The Year in my opinion. Its still rock and roll to me Joe~ Unbelievers - Vampire Weekend

Cool 45s, but you should alpabetize them, easier to show. I too have all my original 45s, many of yours are missing picture sleeves. We were lucky then as teEns to have the excitement of going to record stores-TOWER-CRAZY EDDIE-RECORD WORLD-SAM GOODY-WIZ and purchasing the latest LP and 45s, 12 in.

AlwaysInAtari That's a question I don't know the answer to. Even more interesting is that the same 45 may have had BOTH a plain white sleeve AND a picture sleeve.

+AlwaysInAtari I think its a MONEY thing . Only the BIG MONEY Labels put the Extra Money into Their Biggest Stars , sort of an investment thing . It takes Money to Make Money. Thats my Guess . But the Pic Covers Are Nicer .

More physically attractive artists were sold on the basis of appearance almost as much as sound. Or they were selling a movie or tv show as well.

I have five thousand 45s, a collection that dates from 1966 to today. As I'm sure is Mayo's experience too, mine runs the gamut, condition-wise. Over the years, others will give or sell you their collections and you smartly(!) take them, but then all of your stuff is not going to look like you bought them retail yourself and have always been in your care.
My valuable collection's been sitting pretty useless the last decade. I've been losing my hearing over the last 20 years. Fate is a miserable bitch sometimes.
