How to make Old Concrete look Brand New! (DIY Concrete Resurfacing)

- This video will show you How to Resurface Concrete Steps with Newcrete Concrete Resurfacer product. If you have an old concrete slab or concrete steps, chances are that it looks old, cracked, and worn out. Fortunately, concrete resurfacing products such as Newcrete make it easy to give old concrete a fresh, new look.
To resurface concrete or concrete steps with Newcrete, you will need the following tools and materials 🛠🧰:
- Concrete resurfacing product: www.ctscement.com/product/new...
- Concrete Broom: amzn.to/3TWCseh
- Concrete Finishing Trowel: amzn.to/3i6bHai
- Drill with Mixer Attachment: amzn.to/3EtTYRD
- Sponges (optional): amzn.to/3UgZYmJ
- Concrete dye (optional): amzn.to/3VgF2wO
To resurface concrete or concrete steps with Newcrete, you will want to follow these general steps:
1. Clean the Existing Concrete Surface.
Before you can resurface concrete, you need to ensure that the existing concrete surface is clean. A “clean” concrete surface is one that is free of any dirt, debris, paint.
2. Select the Right Concrete Resurfacing Product for Your Application.
I recommend the Rapid Set Newcrete Product.
3. Mix up the Concrete Resurfacing Product According to the Manufacturer’s Recommendations.
Typically, concrete resurfacing product will be a “pancake batter” consistency once it is mixed up.
4. Moisten the Existing Concrete Surface Prior to Application of the Resurfacing Product.
Before you apply the mixed up concrete resurfacing product, it is recommened that you moisten the existing concrete surface.
5. Apply the Concrete Resurfacing Concrete to the Application Area.
To apply the concrete resurfacing product to your existing concrete, it is recommended that you dump out small amounts of the product and the spread it out evenly with a hand trowel.
6. Apply texture to the concrete surface using a “Broom Finish”.
After applying the concrete resurfacing product to your existing concrete and smoothing it out evenly with a hand trowel, it is generally recommended that you apply a “broom finish” to the concrete surface.
A broom finish provides an aesthetic textured surface that hides any imperfections in the concrete.
7. Allow the Concrete Resurfacing Product to Fully Cure.
After applying your concrete resurfacing product and applying a broom finish (if desired), simply allow the concrete resurfacing product to cure according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Typically, these products cure rapidly and are ready for foot traffic in as little as 2-4 hours.
8. Apply a Concrete Sealer (if desired).
Although a concrete sealer is not required, it can provide a few notable benefits such as:
- A sealer will help to prevent staining of the concrete surface and will help to prevent water discoloration.
- A sealer can “tint” the surface of the concrete - giving it a darker look.
To apply sealer to concrete, I recommend that you roll the product onto the concrete surface using a foam roller. However, you can also apply sealer using a sprayer.

The fact he showed the finish product for almost 0.5 seconds tells us it was a masterpiece 😂😂😂
😂😂😂 it looked better b4
exactly! 40k upvotes on this video too...people are such idiots.
He also made sure it wad wet.
And he only showed it up close lol
It’s a technique editors do to make you watch the video again. That slight detail in the edit probably got the video 20x more views. People rewatch because they missed the final product raising the viewer attention statistics over %200 for that one viewer. In return the video is going to be boasted in the algorithm.

Bruh for real 😂. Every Mexican in the chat gave it a thumbs down
As he was troweling I kept wondering how he was going to make that look nice. And it never happened, and life made sense again
Hahhaha
🤣 yeah first thing I thought how do I make concrete look brand new? Hmmm ohh yeah replace it 😆
@@joebly5641I mean you can but there are better and proper ways to do it without tearing it up for little projects like this. He was halfway there with the clean up of it but completely messed it up after that. If you don't know how to work with concrete, your work after will be the tell.
@@RyanYoxo I was afraid that I was going to just mess up something already messed up.
😂😂😂
The Old Concrete actually Looked Much better.
My mother always said to me “if you don’t have anything nice to say, keep your F’ing mouth shut.” So I’m speechless about this video
Dammnn well at least you aren't being rude about it 😂
@@noname-zi9xm he black, it's how they discipline they kids...😄

That’s a great advice
Yet what she said wasn’t nice…
Oof. This is a landlord special for sure.
🤣
Slumlord special 😂
😂
Nah this is more of a "I'm getting ready to sell my house and want to pretty it up some" special
If a landlord cares enough to do that they're alright. Now if it was busted up and dangerous for a couple years until there's some kind of inspection needing done then they glue it all together and hide it with this shit after threats of fines then it's a bad landlord lol
Never trust a how-to when someone is using brand new tools. True craftsman love their tools till death.
Exactly!
As someone who does concrete, this hurts. Also, I give that overlay about 6 months before it starts flaking and deteriorating
Hi just wondering if you could please advise me on a steeply sloped concrete road that is becoming slippery because the concrete road had lines on it made by some sort of trowel but now to retouch I am not sure how to approach it.
broom it early like this guy did what he has there could be a damn boat ramp. still gonna wear off though. like dude said it chips off. bro could have at least moose milked the surface first but skim coating like that just is what it is mechanical bond on something thats gonna freeze thaw freeze thaw
@@mattschatz4864 you don’t normally “retouch” concrete.
If you mean slippery when wet, that’s a texture problem…
You have two options here. Add something with texture, or texturize the concrete.
I NEVER recommend doing such a thin concrete floating for a drive of any kind.
So that leaves you with adding grit to a epoxy or paint to add grip. (Don’t recommend most paints, but they will be much cheaper…)
The second option might be to add texture by removing concrete in a reasonably aggressive fashion.
Options might be sand blasting with granite or certain slag.
Maybe a grinder? (Don’t like this one)
In the end all these are just hokey ideas that could work, but are not industry standard.
If I was pitching a customer on this, I would pitch two ideas. 1 repave. You tear out the old and put down 5-8” of fresh concrete with a good life span.
Or 2: apply asphalt. 2-4” would be plenty. It’s cheaper and can work really well.
I have to assume if this is concrete it is either really old, sees a ton of traffic, or it was very poorly done and with the wrong mix.
But idk without seeing it.
If your sold on this floating idea, get ardex. It’s a brand. Top of the line. Best bang for buck no questions asked.

Here's a tip, Its always a good idea to add concrete bonding "glue" whenever your doing any additions to exciting concrete or concrete repairs.
Weldcrete!
I concur! But these products have them in the mix!
Boncrete where I'm from
It really depends on the overlay, some products need bare dry substrate, others moist and some a chemical liquid in place of water and or bonding agent. The best I've used was a three to five part system depending on color and finish and could potentialy cost the customer almost as much as the concrete did in the first place. Either way if you don't follow the manufacturers instructions word for word and step by step your doomed before you even start. Also if it's not expensive it's gonna look like shit and probably won't last, in my experience at least.
Concrete always gets me excited
"here's how to make concrete look like it's wearing a dollar concrete costume."
"How to Make Your Concrete Look Slightly Different"
That look atrocious 😂😂😂
I literally laughed out loud at “atrocious” such a sing way to say ugly 🤣❤️
Man, the last clip of the final product, uffda!
I was going to say horrendous but i guess anyway you spin it the sentiment is still the same 😂
God!! that looks messy!! 🤮😔
What I learned after watching this short: Just repour a new staircase.
You can do this just not the way the video showed but its still just putting a band aid on a open wound

Now, only about 4K. 😉
Haha
😂😂😂
So true
I honestly liked it better before. I really like the look of weathered concrete
I was gonna say that looks terrible but everyone else beat me to it! Sorry bro dont give up keep trying you’ll get it
Honestly I'd only fix the cracks, I love the look of that worn concrete and I slip on it a lot less
It will all pop and flake off after the first freeze/thaw.
Exactly! That's what I was wondering too. I do not think this will survive a Canadian winter.
OK you can just get a bag of Portland white or gray your choice, mix a manageable portion with a mixing blade add a small amount of concrete glue then use a roller or paint brush to apply on surface. This won't dry n crack.
Every product I've used to repair,(cover existing concrete) starts to crack and chip off after one freeze thaw, even while using concrete adhesive . Stuff works in a warm climate but not in freeze thaw climates.
Just mix Portland (and a little sand if concrete is very rough). You can add a little glue if the weather is hot. That will slow down cure time so it doesn't crack.
I’m glad the comment section felt the same way I did lol
Love how he zoomed in on the finished result so that we can't see the whole thing. Must have been a real bang up job
Man I was going to come cook this guy in the comments but I see I’m too late lol 😂
The driveways my neighbors in Colorado did this too lasted about a year. One season of cold and hot weather, rain and snow was about all it took. It started to Crack and peel very quickly.
Basically just covered the old concrete in a type of grout (sand, flyash and cement). It's stuff I work with when priming a concrete pump.
Next time use glue... and apply a drier mix to fill the lows and make it flat ands smooth... then do what you did.
If your going to put in all that work at least go a little further and add a second coat to fill in the low spots that were visible. Also let it tighten up so you can roll the edges smoothly or use a edger
The fact I rewatched this not once not twice BUTTTTT THREE times to see if I noticed a difference says a lot
Seeing him trowel the steps and edges then pulling out his little cousins toy leaf blower tells me this guys never touched a single tool
I think it looks pretty good didn’t know the texture on concrete came from using a broom.
😂😂😂 stop complimenting him it looks like shit and anyone who has ever poured concrete will tell you this was a horrible job
At that point I'd just buy a couple bags of quickcrete 💀
That's what I used. it was a big improvement to my crumbling stairs, but it wasn't perfect. If you have little or no experience using a trowel or float (like me), it's a lot harder than it looks to get it smooth and even than the video makes it look.
EDIT: This project would have looked a lot better with 2-3 coats.
You should have just filled the cracked then used a epoxy this is just gonna crack again but be even worse cause now it’s gonna be chips.
He seems to be the master of "almost". Every project he shows looks like it almost worked out.
This comment section is straight up SAVAGE. It doesn’t look that bad 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Instead try adding some stone on top of that old concrete. Brings out much more value to your old concrete
Ohhh sounds nice!
I think just the powerwash + maybe the sealer/coat of paint would have probably looked better. But as long as youre happy with it lol
I'm impressed how many youtube experts are here.
Them old ones jus hit different
*cracks the first time it's stepped on* 🤣
Probably won't crack right away because the underlying structure was solid. It will look like shit right away though. Plus it will likely look shittier than doing nothing at all in a year.
It probably cracked just during the drying process
@@Daily_Meat_Dealer well you can definitely see cracks on the side after he finished plus the first freeze it will definitely Crack
😂😂😂 it's the new eggshell texture its suppose to do that
This is why you don't want to buy a house a little kid flipped.
The guy did a terrible job, but I'm curious what makes you call him a "little kid", when he's clearly an adult, and also why you think someone's age has any correlation to how good their work is?
@@agentalexcamp He's tiny.
This is pretty funny, with how bad it looked, how little you showed the end result, and the comments. 😂
Okay, to all those haters out there, it looked fine. Don't give him such a hard time for trying. It definitely looked better than the orginal so stop talking I'd like to see you do better
Why would you cut the railing you could’ve wiggled it out or broken up the anchoring cement. The railing is supposed to be in the actual landing at least a few inches.
Come on guys he's young he's learning
Appreciate it, Sean. Honestly, I agree with most of them lol. But big picture I’m pouring a new slab and sidewalk and I want it all to match!
I understand your "learning" But you're making videos like you've done it before??? Which is just awful.. a little tip for you. Take the stickers off your brand new tools because it just proves you've never used them before..
The only reason why I liked was because I didn’t expect him to install a new rail and was surprised to see a bolt on
Honestly, videos like this are best watched with the sound turned completely down
Mr George, how much u pay the new guy..20 bucks? Too much! 🤣

It used to look old, not it just looks crap. Amazing.
I want to see another video in 6 months lol
Could’ve made some nice terrazzo steps :(
It’s gonna chip off after one winter and end up looking worse than before. Rip it out and pour new
I feel bad laughing at all these comments 🤣 I think it looked pretty decent and in the end you got the refinished concrete you wanted
Great finish brotha looks good!
Appreciate it, Brett!
@@AndrewThronImprovementsno no no stop lol the finish was horrible I've seen some of you're other videos and they're great but this was horrible man and I'm sorry but I wouldn't have posted that.
Hope it lasts and doesn't chip or flake good luck
Me too. I’m hoping for at least 5 years of a good result. I plan to cover the porch soon. Fingers crossed.
It looks like a block of concrete now. The original look was pretty nice honestly.
That explains why I always see stairs breaking into chip. They resurfaced it, didn't keep up maintenance and gave up. 😂
Wow this looks awesome! Goes really well with the new railing
There goes the awesome patina of age for a cheap “flip”
Concrete doesn’t patina, it eroded and cracks. Lmao
Somehow I like the look of old concrete better
Now it's time to cover it with some stone work or tile. the junk you put on can be removed pretty easily with a chipping hammer or hammer and chisel since there was no bonding agent used.
3 days later, hmm…why is it flaking apart?

I like that rough concrete. It is great in the winter, as it grips your boots.🤔🤗🤗🤗
Power washing isnt enough in new Zealand we call this overlay but the concrete needs to have a grinder go over it for adhesion purposes id say that will crack and chip off after a few cold night and hot days 2 out of 10
Lol def looks better but def dont look new at all lol

@AndrewThronImprovements please never touch concrete again 😂😂😂
Nice work, old concretes tough though. I give it one winter and it will be coming apart the following summer.
yay, i can make my concrete look like concrete!
I like how he wore a respirator to remove a metal railing.
Absolutely perfect for a couple months.. i donno about around the world, but here in canada, with real weather changes, that would pop off by next spring thaw, you didnt even add an adhesive between your concoction and the stairs. Yeah the people who made it probably posted they add it to their "mix" but if you yrust that, then stay in the office. Let the people who have done it since they lfet home to do it. They know by experience not by reading a lable.
Looks like a military family quarters home ❤
Did you add a bonding agent to the old surface and make sure it was wet before applying the new layer???
I used the same product plus added Portland cement so it would be easier to work. Then worked it smooth came out good
Damn. Was gonna subscribe until I saw that finished product.
You should put tiles there. Lets say 120x30cm. If they are outside you need to make a drop for water. I zhink you did a good job leveling them out, now its easier to go with the tiles and give them perfect look.
You passed the broom to early but get better as you learn ❤
Let us know how this looks a few months from now. It just feels like it is not going to bond long-term.
Don’t quit your day job
Now, since this is DIY and not something he did for a customer, it’s good enough, but the end result is far from perfect, you probably would have been better off with a good epoxy paint and sand for grit. I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing this for one of my clients.
What type of railing system did you use? 🎉
This content is hilarious 😂
Definitely going to crack out
I didn't know about this crap before.. THANK YOU!
