Dunno if you guys gives a damn but if you are stoned like me atm you can stream pretty much all of the new series on instaflixxer. Have been watching with my girlfriend recently =)
@Brodie Moshe definitely, been using instaflixxer for since december myself :D
Yeah building your own drone might be better but if you look at it price wise a racing drone might cost you $500 but you still need to get a gopro hero 9 or other action cam and that's another $500. Then you got your remote plus goggles so in the end your better off getting the DJI FPV combo
Not a lot of people mention this.
totally agree
If you use your phone as the Goggles, minus $999.99 for Goggles. 100% you can Jimmy Rig a set of Phone Goggles.
You can always buy Real Decent Quality Plug-in Phone Antennas. So 50-100$.
15$ for goggle body.
The Drone is 500$
Get a Xbox Controller
60$. If you have a spare drone controller or buy the Mother board for what you need and etc. you would have a very good controller no doubt.
Idk though
Well said bro! 👏🏾
Thanks for your comparison. I got the DJI fpv and will return it, and will look at getting building my own fpv
A year later and now look at you guys. Im stuck on fpv since march 2020 n still here 6 quads later.
Absolutely brilliant idea of a shared video! Love it hehe and it shows the passion for sharing thoughts in the FPV community. Good job guys and I can't wait for your next collab video! :D
Much appreciated Max! I'm looking forward to it as well ;)
Can you use the DJI v2 goggles and controller for any of the other custom built FPVs?
Good question. And no can't use remote.. Goggles can buy having trouble at launch..
great production value ken. the right tool for the right job!!!
Great collaboration!!!
Is it possible to receive a digital HD video on a screen without having to buy dji goggles? Like a module that outputs the video feed to hdmi or usb C to connect with your phone, pc or any other screen.
Awesome mike . Nice that you and Dobo got together to do this content. Well done guys🤟🏻loved it
Pretty cool to work with a guy with the same passion for flying as me!
@@DroneSupremacy yes ken is an awesome dude.
Great job lads. Thanks to people like Mike and Ken we are just wiser. Thanks men for superb content. Big thanks 👍👍👍👍🇮🇪👌
Another great vid!
Another good video 🙌🏻💪🏻🤓
After flying the DJI FPV for a while, I am willing to buy a GoPro Hero 9 to attach on the drone for better performance & stabilization. Any experiences with this around here? Is it worth the 400 bucks?
They have different audiences. Just like race cars and volvos.
however, Volvos make great race cars ;)
Polestar bro
Hi! According to EU regulations whilst doing an immersion flight there needs to be another pilot next to you with the ability to step in. Is this possible with DJI FPV via a combination of remote controller/phone, motion controller/remote controller, or a second remote controller? I couldn't find the answer to this anywhere, would appreciate it a lot if you knew.
If I can get a DJI package can the googles and controll work for other builds?
This is great! You have convinced me to finally build my first quad! Love both your channels. I wanted build one last year and the Nazgul5 HD came out... so chickened out for that fantastic BNF. I would appreciate some recommendations of builds that have full CZcams build videos for a noob like me. How good is the Xylo Bardwell build for which you can order the whole kit on GetFPV? Thanks guys! 👊🏻
Building easy.. 👊👊😉💪😁😁
@@sleepingbearffg5008 yeah, I just need to do it! I will order a kit for my birthday in May. Just keep encouraging me 😉
Not sure how I missed this collab. Great video Mike.
biggets factor for me is repairs... if I crash the dji fpv and break an arm, im screwed till dji repair it. if i break an arm on my own quad, i could have a few frames at hope and just repair it the same day? and also someone mentioned the price and how fragile the dji drone is
what camera is he talking about?
Both are good, I just chose the DJI FPV because I am extremely limited on flight time and I also got it for an amazing deal. Best drone I have ever flown.
Good video again Mike
You guys are right in point with all of this!!! Please someone give us a 10bit action cam!!!!
..aaand the hero11 comes out!
As a complete beginner just finding out FPV is a thing, and looking to give it a try, this was an informative video. When Ken is saying it will cost about $4-500 to build a custom drone, is that including the GoPro (or other high quality stabilized action cam)? If not that would put the price close to the DJI considering that one includes that camera as its flight camera as well (I understand it isn't as good as some of the latest GoPro's, but at a $200 difference maybe it is more comparable to a hero black 6 for example).
Cost around 1000€ to get into custom fpv
How about for long range flying
Good and well balanced videos (both of them).
Can you put area sensors on diy cinematic drone?
OK so I have a DJI FPV drone. It’s got me interested in the other side of FPV. Now I have the GEN two goggles what do I need to get started in the other FPP world where do I go. How do I learn to build I’m interested but I don’t know where to start been asking this question quite a bit
You can buy a ready to fly quad or build one yourself, there's tons of tutorials on CZcams on how to build, just take a look at a few to see if that's something you're comfortable with.
Regarding GoPros, have you ever had a GoPro freeze/crash/stop recording while it was in the air? I've seen a bunch of reviews that said it frequently freezes, and I'm worried it will do it in the air and I don't get my footage.
No never
My opinion:
- you want to fly fpv and take cinematic footage (decent, but not superb quality)
- you dont have time to build fpv quad
- bonus: you want safety features
GO FOR DJI
Got a dji, now I have second thoughts lol, repairs are too expensive, for the warranty+1 repair you can build a whole new 5 inch
It'll be perfect for what I want to do! 🚀
@@sunnesonne how has it lasted? Do you still regret it?
@@thomasduthie my man, it gets boring after 3 weeks, get a 5 inch
@@sunnesonne honestly thinking about it, but pricing wise getting an HD 5 inch + controller + dji goggles is even more than getting DJI FPV. Reason I want it isn't really for acro, more for the feeling so HD is important to me.
Forget EVERYTHING you know about FPV and go back to when you watched your first FPV video and thought "damn that looks so cool, I would like to do that!!! If DJI dropped their FPV that day would you not purchase?
Mike/Dobo...thoughts?
I want to start FPV, and really did a lot of research these last days. Building my own drone would even interest me as well, but starting from 0 there is not really an advantge imo. If I buy a drone, goggles, remote control and an action cam, I end up even more expensive than, the DJI FPV, when going for similar specs (e.g. long range, GPS, digital). Plus I don't have any other drone for steady 0-speed, or lowspeed shots. These I can do better with the DJI than with a selfbuilt one. Plus the way better safety and reliability of the DJI. The biggest downsides of the DJI are of course the fragile build and high repair costs, but you can avoid crashing by being very carefull and train a lot beforehand. The other thing are these crazy expensive batteries, but well they seem to be good at least, and maybe in the future there are third party batteries. So in the end, when you're starting from 0 this is a very good package if you ask me. What do you think?
I agree, when you factor in time for learning it all I think this is a good starter package. Then if the controller and googles are compatible with homemade FPVs, maybe we could build them down the line.
I agree, making a fpv drone from scratch is way to much work and it also isn't that cheap
Building isn't hard at all. Soldering hardest thing.. betaflight and Open tx easy too. If decide to build look me up. I'll help
@@sleepingbearffg5008 the thing is most people don't have the tools to do that. so now you have to buy lipo charger and soldering iron and all that stuff.
I totally agree. As Mavic pilot wanting to get into fpv for the fun of flying, not so much for filming, the DJI drone can take you from the start to advanced flying without all that is entailed in building from scratch. For me anyway, I am more interested in scenic cruising fpv and I appreciate the training wheels I get with the DJI drone.
Got bored waiting for my DJI FPV so I bought the Tinyhawk II and I have to say it is absolutely amazing. Battery only lasts 4mins and I'm scared of buying higher power incase it blows up lol
Just buy a bunch of batteries
Considering the cost of the whole DJI package, you could have the goggles and a vista unit, a Crossfire radio and two identical Scratch built Freestyle quads you can swap the vista into. You can probably add Lipos and a charger and still have money to spare. It all depends on what your objectives are.
Spot on
when I added up the cost of an FPV + go pro + googles + controller it was more expensive than the DJI unit.
@@digwillhachi fpv channels don’t want to acknowledge this for some reason.
Dji fpv will always be cheaper, especially if you choose to fly digital
this is brilliant
Thanks Nick! :)
About the point of possibility of attaching any camera you want, you can do the same with dji fpv, get a mount and there you go. But with the rest I totally agree. For me this DJI Combo was and is just a way to get into the fpv. But in the future I am planning to build my own drone. What annoys me the most in DJI FPV, that because of it's costs and fragileness I am afraid to push it and thus, to progress. I will buy some cheap one for practice purposes only.
You can put any of those cameras on the dji fpv drone though..
Driving a plane is also better than driving a car but not everyone can do it right? Not everyone has the time to spend studying parts of a drone, how to assemble a drone, let alone solder their own parts.
The one thing I wonder is if I have the DJI FPV drone and then in the future I want to build/buy a regular fpv quad, can I use the current googles and controllers that came with the DJI FPV when I install the dji fpv digital components on the regular quad?
YES! You can install the DJI air unit and your all set!
@@hateforall4012 awesome! Thanks for the reply!
@@AngelRosarioC no problem man... I jumped in feet first to the digital side... However I only have the goggles from DJI... A quad from rotor riot and a Taranis qx7 for a radio. So far so good. I also spend lots of time with liftoff and velocidrone simulators.... without batteries... I spent 1200 bucks ish.... so still pricey but I got what I wanted, how I wanted it.
I don't think you'll be able to use the controller. The googles only.
if I had the time I would love to learn to build an FPV but unfortunately I don't, so I appreciate just being able to buy an AIO package.
Yes
So what I take from this video is that built drones are very specific to the builder where s as the fpv is a generic fpv drone that can do everything but watered down
So perfect for beginners really
For starters, this video was great.
As someone who just flys for fun and films sometimes.
After flying the DJI FPV drone with the digital transmission to the goggles, (I didn't fly any drones with the original DJI FPV goggles) I can't go back to analogue video ever again.
It's literally like playing a xbox 360 on a tube TV and upgrading to a HD TV and I can see everything now... I can't imagine going back to analog ever again.
Also, Like alot things in life. You get more out the more you put in. You definitely put more in when building your own rig 🙂
You can't really put too much in the DJI FPV drone though, can you? LOL
But yeah i get your point 🙌🏼
You still need to know how to program your quadcopter's with Beta Fpv if you haven't every used it before it seems almost impossible .I think that is a bigger problem for me great video gentlemen.
That's true, betaflight sucks to learn from scatch.
But FPV was never meant to be "buy it and you are ready to fly". It is a discipline and a hobby where you learn to build and do everything by yourself and learn from your mistakes.
More over betaflight and flight controllers have come a longway where the stock PIDs are decent enough to fly.
Hell ya better 💪💪👊👊
also remember to add on several $100s for the go pro to your build.
how about 500$ plus
HA! You two had me confused when both your videos showed up in my alerts but it wasn't either of you in the thumbnails.
the plan worked out hahah
I think you can attach a GoPro camera on this DJI fpv drone, why not?
Yes but why would I though? I attach my gopro where it belongs, on my FPV quads :D
Yes there are attachments out already in which you can attach a GoPro on your DJI fpv drone. Its really amazing, doesn't really affect the performance of the drone.
Overall good video. One thing I feel they didn’t account for was if someone wanted to get into fpv and didn’t know exactly what “purpose” they want their drone for
Well it's something that everyone should research before investing such a large amount of money i think
Build it hands down! It's worth it.
Just not everyone is into building their own…
Same as with other interests, some people build their own mountainbikes, others just want to cycle on Sunday.
Have seen a lot of footage of the dji lately, it might not be perfect but if you think back a few years this would still be impossible.
Plus, it seems a good way to get into this hobby, after a while you know better what you want, sell the dji and build your own.
Amazing video! 🔥 Ciao amico! 🇮🇹
so, hmm, you're saying, don't buy versatile dji fpv drone when you can buy 15 different build yourself drones? also, on other video you point out it wins in battery life and range.. I was really into fpv drones and wanted to build one myself a while ago, but got a bit overwhelmed with way too much information and choices for long range drones, and then got myself Taranis controller and Velocidrone and that really did it for me.. I realized that if i build my own drone from scratch not only i will not be 100% sure if i did everything the right way I will also not be able to retrieve it if i get myself in hairy situation.. DJI FPV is perfect transition from GPS drones to FPV, it makes it super smooth, gives you confidence that your money is fairly safe with this one.. but then, that's just my opinion.. Been flying very cheap drones that didn't have any gps stabilization, had some less cheap stabilized drones, had few DJI drones, and now that I have my FPV drone I feel very at ease to use it in Normal and Sport mode, and slowly adjusting to completely different point of view. So yeah, I think DJI FPV is the way to go if you want to try FPV drones.. and considering the goggles you get with this set are able to be used with other drones sporting dji fpv camera system, you're already ahead.. and yeah, digital view is WAY better than analog.. that was one major thing I was worried about when I wanted to transition to FPV drones..
Haha funny start
I did both.. bought the DJI and bought one to build!
Best of both worlds!
@@DroneSupremacy is the beta fpv starter good for beginners?
oh yes
Choosing a DJI FPV or a fully custom FPV drone is like buying a gaming PC versus building your own.
Obviously, the custom will do a much better job but it requires tinkering, tons of learning, arguably better flight skills/more experience, and if you're like me, you'll say, "well, I could buy this part but THIS one is much better and just a little more expensive...". At the end of the day, I would have a monster at 2-3x the cost of the pre-built with all associated purist ideologies (PC Master Race, anyone?🤣)
OR, I could fork out the cash to buy a RTF FPV that provides a perfectly decent experience with very few experience/time prerequisites.
Personally, I just want to fly around with goggles and capture nice imagery at our land in the Adirondacks. I'm not going to be racing it through abandoned buildings and obstacle courses. DJI FPV is the obvious choice for a casual beginner.
I could build my own car _ or I could buy a car that suits my needs .
you say your FPV drone costs under $500 compared to DJI FPV. but then it does not have a 4K camera and digital transmission.
Ask a room full of soccer moms... i bet you will get an anonymous vote for the DJI FPV
A self build quad has an emotional attachment because you built it/tuned it yourself, where as DJI FPV is just a luxury.
Pro Tip: Don't get attached to your quads. If (or should I say when) you crash/lose them it's not a good feeling.
Why so much hate on the dji fpv? I think it's dope. I used to build drones, I'm over it. I just buy ones ready to fly. I never crash anyways. I think a better price comparison would include EVERYTHING the goggles, the controller, obstacle avoidance system, the GoPro.l, the charger, By the time you add all of that stuff, and the time spent putting it together, I think the dji fpv is a fine choice. Also why no comparison of the GoPro video vs the dji? I have a hard time believing the GoPro video is better without a gimbal
a huge portion of the FPV shots shown in this video are shot on the GoPro 9 :) That's what I said - the gopro wins.
@@DroneSupremacy not once in the video was there an actual comparison. Same shot taken by both drones then compared
@@DroneSupremacy why dont you mention the cost of the camera, goggles, & controller for the diy fpv?
Imho. there are only two real arguments for the DJI FPV:
1) Convenience
2) Safety
Undoubtedly there is no easier way to get flying fpv. Clicking the order button does the job. And the safety features are infinitely superior. If theres a problem the drone will land itself hands free.
But the other arguments I hear are not convincing.
*Its not a freestlye quad, but a tool for cinematography*
The footage I have seen doesnt seem to be that great honestly. I feel that a Gopro + Reelsteady actually provides better results. Also I think filmmakers would not risk some typical fpv shots with this expensive and fragile drone.
*Its flight time is super long*
It is clearly more efficient than your typical 5 inch, but comparing it to a less overpowered build is probably more fair. Also does the DJI actually achieve that flight time? There are people building purposely efficient quads and getting flight times double that of the DJI. Allthough personally, Id rather just have a 5inch with a lot of power and 10 Lipos for the price of one DJI pack :D
*Its great for learning to fly*
To some extent. Its worry-free , yes. But for most people the fun of flying fpv comes from progressing their skills and challenging themselves. I think you'll run into a barrier quite soon with the DJI since it wont survive many mishaps. So yeah its great for learning basic handling and cruising around (and some mild flippyfloppys), but most people can do that with a few days on the sim, for around 1280$ less.
*A normal setup costs just as much*
Yes, something like a prebuilt nazgul5 + dji goggles + transmitter + gopro will cost you a similarly painful amount of money. _However_ I believe that package is of far more value. Firstly the gopro is something that someone interested in filmmaking will likely already have/ is multi purpose. Second for people that stay in fpv, you have a lot more options. I.e building up a cinewhoop, or a longrange quad. Everything is compatible.
*DJI is a great all in one package*
Yes, but thats also a disadvantage as mentioned above. It works great together, but only together. The controller and Batterys will only work with the DJI Quad, so people that do want to get into freestyle/racing etc. will have to buy everything again.
Now I dont really have an issue with the DJI FPV, but I think the marketing is a little problematic with the whole "future of FPV" thing. Its a sporty mavic, and it does that perfectly. But I am afraid that many will buy this with unrealistic expectations and end up disappointed. And youtube being full of sponsored influecers telling you it is the best thing ever doesnt help. But hats off to DJI's marketing team.
your opinion probably comes from someone with experience in FPV, as a beginner in the area I would disagree with nearly all your points apart from the GoPro being a better cam, but you could probably stick a GoPro on the DJI anyway. I think this is a great first step in to the world of FPV and the safety button has saved me many times already when I would have destroyed my homemade FPV, further adding to its cost for repairs. This is a great beginner package IMO, and if the googles and controller are compatible with homemade FPVs I think it will encourage many people to maybe build their own down the line.
@@digwillhachi We'll yes, its my opinion after I have gotten into fpv last year. But its not really relevant for you since you already got it. The rest of the comment is mostly just facts. I wouldnt reccomend strapping a gopro to it as that would likely mess up flight characteristics and diminish flight time. Freestyle quads are a lot more durable than you think. As of now I think nothing is compatible, but there is supposed to be an update that allows the goggles to be used with air units. ( that may have changed by now)
Anyways welcome to fpv
A HUGE aspect DIY drones cannot match is DJI's obstacle avoidance and automation. If you choose DIY, your experience will only be as good as your patience and skill level. I would always recommend going with DJI first. Once you reach the limits of that system, then you can consider manual drones. Remember, avoid the urge to impulse buy out of wishful thinking!
Build some and buy some. Bind and fly drones are getting better. In addition to that the bind and fly drones often come with a better tune than Betaflight defaults. That can be valuable information when trying to learn to tune other similar drones and make changes in Betaflight.
If you really find the FPV drone that is meant for you then buy 2 of those bastards. Buy a BNF and then buy the parts to build the exact same drone. It's always good to have a parts drone to pick parts from when your daily driver malfunctions.
That's not really an option with the DJI-FPV drone though so keep that in mind.
Nice profile photo, looks familiar 🧐😅
the dynamic range is terrible,
it's truly scary when flying.
point towards the sunset and you can't see any trees, just dark shadows
turn away from sunset,

Those are bad motors. Few of my fellows experienced Desynk
Lets not undersell how much that custom quad cost.
at least factor in the cost of it being built.
$500-650 will get you a custom built 5" with any parts you want.
which you can field repair easily.
200 is cheapest you can DIY with analog,
300 digital
350 BNF...
just tossing numbers out there,
FPV should not be one size fits all . Everybody is different , not everyone has shop skills .
Not every Airplane pilot is a mechanic, most are not . Both cost $$$$$
Indeed!
Costs $1300 for bare bones....that’s no Refresh with 1 battery which as we all know won’t get u anywhere. It’s basically a $2k fpv drone.
True. You have to factor the same thing about real FPV quads though - GoPro, extra batteries etc.
It's not exactly the same amount but it's up there when everything adds up
@@DroneSupremacy good video I recently returned my DJI fpv and ordered a cinewhoop to learn on. As a newbie fpv guy that DJI drone was not the drone to learn on at all to me....way too nice to crash. Look elsewhere for good info. This guy just likes to hear himself talk and he never compared the full product and what it includes with a diy setup.
A desperate attempt to make money. First time you wreck it, you're gonna have to send it back and probably pay several hundred dollars for them to fix it cause you can't get parts....that being said, the simple answer is NO don't buy the DJI fpv drone
Another simple answer: if you're new to FPV (most DJI FPV customers), don't fly it like an idiot. Buy a cheap quad to train with if you're worried about crashing. There are PLENTY of features that will protect a newbie from accidentally crashing unless you put it in manual right off the bat with no experience.
Buy the DJI FPV unless you think you can fly it like a fully custom acro quad through abandoned buildings. It's a great option if you have a lot of cash but not so much time and patience required to build your own, which isn't guaranteed to give you cheaper/better results.
i just bought a dji and I immediately took to youtube to see how to customize the crap out of it. Turns out there is a lot on youtube. My plans have changed and I'm not stopping until I have at least two apprentices and I have my home town enmeshed in a swarm of iLLeag7ebots to keep it... safe...
