Today is going to be a massive decluttering project! I’m heading down to the basement to declutter the finished part of the basement.
Last time I was in the basement I organized my couponing stockpile which was a complete disaster. Here is the link gif that video if you’d like to check it out.

Great job Jodi!!! I have a project I could use advice on..we have a huge deck in good shape. We had it put on when we built the house 20 years ago. People say it's great. But, we don't use it. We don't entertain like we used to, it's basically for the dogs to lay on. I want to get rid of it and just put in a cement pad. Pretty soon the deck will need staining (again) and some repairs. I feel like we would be dumping more money into a deck we don't use. Staining is expensive and it needs done every few years. We are not sure how long we are staying here as we are wanting to down size at some point but not with the market the way it is. I don't know if the deck is a selling point or not, we get different opinions. I just am at a point in my life where I want to simplify everything I can and a cement pad would definitely be simpler. Any advice from anyone is welcome!!!
Oh Mary that is a big decision! My daughter just ripped up their deck and they had a cement patio laid. I will tell you it looks way better and I think they will get a lot of function out of it. Decks are definitely a lot of up keep. I don’t have personal experience with that so I hope someone else can share their experiences. Let me pin your comment so maybe more people will see it 😊
If the deck is a selling point depends on the state it is in. A beautiful deck, nicely stained and decorated? Sure! A run down deck that isn't maintained? Nope.
Mary, make it the way you want, you live there now. Good luck 👍
@@jodidunnmymessylife1847 thanks Jodi! I think I'll just start with my closet.....😆😆
@@barbfrank917 thanks Barb! Most days I feel that way but I just can't seem to pull the plug!!😁😁
You could totally redo the red chair your self. Flip it over. Unscrew or remove staples. Take offcover carefully. You could add some extra foam (old egg crate mattress pad) or put on extra quilted material (old mattress cover). Use the old fabric from the seat and use as a pattern. Get some good duck cloth (yep it’s called that at joanns) and cut the fabric a couple inches wider all the way around. When putting it back on, flip chair so bottom up. Put a staple in the fabric at noon, 3, 6, and 9 oclock around the seat. Pull the fabric tight between noon and 6 and then again at 3 and 9. Staple. Then start stapling around the edges pulling tight on the opposite side. Trim off the excess. Then do the arms and finally the back. On the underside of the arms fold the material under to make a neat seam and staple. Then the back. Fold under material around arm corners and at the bottom of the back. You can also use decorative upholstery tacks - basically like thumb tacks with pretty top. Just tap tap them in lightly with small hammer. You can do it!! 😃❤️🌸❤️🌸❤️🌸❤️ Love the room! I would so be using it as a hang out to read or watch tv.
I LOVE this transformation! It just goes to show that you don't need to buy lots of new things to make a big difference in a space! At first, when I saw the desk, I thought you should keep it downstairs for a craft station and move your computer from upstairs to the basement as well, and then move the love seat and couch upstairs. But as you worked away and explained your reasoning, it made so much sense. And now you have this awesome multi-purpose space that will be great for your girls at their age as well as your grand kids! The front space with the couches is an awesome spot for the girls and their friends to hang out and watch movies, and the back space is a great play space for the grand kids! I am so glad you turned the love seat so that the 2 sofas make an L shape because it really helps to make this room into 2 distinct spaces.
I also totally understand how you feel about decluttering. I also find it hard to JUST declutter a space because I often feel like it doesn't give the same sense of satisfaction as a rearrange/reorganize does. I also would not have been able to just declutter that space, I for sure would have rearranged stuff too. Plus, once you're in it, you may as well be all in!
I know you don’t know me other than my commenting, but I want to tell you how darn proud of you I am. I’ve followed your couponing channel for almost a year now and have been here since the beginning each and every week to watch you declutter. You have done an amazing job. I also love Donna Jean’s surprise cameos. She’s a hoot. ❤️
I'm so happy for you to finally have the whole house done with its 1st round of cluttering. What a great space.
Thank you so much C 🤗🤗
That America doll stuff is worth a fortune! Your Grandaughter will love it I enjoy my 8 grandkids I try to get them or take them to practice every chance I can
When you need to move the recliners out you could push the loveseat back closer to the basketball game and place the recliners in front of it or flip the loveseat facing the basketball game also. GREAT JOB, thanks for going through everything slowly. Sorry about your doggie, we always miss the pets we have lost.
It is comforting to see you working in real time. I get speeding up the video, but it is good to see real time even if for a few seconds. It is amazing what we find in our chaos! I looked for years for my passport and literally found it where it should have been... which I was sure was I had looked several times before!! Elves, Trolls, Gnomes...? Whatever!!! lol!
Best Buy takes old technology and recycle it for you. Also, if you get a tea light candle (or any wax) you can rub it inside the wooden drawers to make them glide smoother 😁
It looks so cozy and homey! You need a family gathering so you can enjoy the fruits of your labor 🥰
Blankets stored in a basement can get a little musty smelly. Throw a couple dryer sheets in that toy box to keep them smelling fresh. Great job on the declutter!
Awesome! You have inspired me to start room by room.. it’s a struggle , but it’s getting done. Thank you! 🙏🌻
Theresa it is a struggle! But totally worth the struggle ❤️ so excited for you.
Jodi, I was in an apartment and had a heavy couch that I needed / wanted out! So in those days, I did not let nothing stop me! I took an old electric (small- hand held) jig-saw I had, a pair of scissors, garbage bags and determination! Guess what I dismantelled that couch! I remember the sparks flew a couple of times! Finally after a lot of work it was done! What was left was two long metal bars. I just picked them up and laid them on the veranda until I carried them down stairs. All the bags of couch foam, material, jig sawed wood went to the garbage. I was proud I got that thing out by myself! My guy friend was shocked! I warned him I did not want it! He didn't listen! It was not his apartment, he moved it upstairs anyway! It is a method! Lol! No hurt backs, no scratched walls!
Oh that’s incredible! Well done not letting anything stop you 👏👏👏👏
Thanks Jodi!
I think your basement declutters have been my favorite so far! So so satisfying! Living in NYC apartments my whole life I’ve always dreamed of a basement where it would likely be an entertainment room, my coupon stockpile storage, and possibly guest space as well. I love the turnout of your basement and even though you told yourself to not move any furniture, I think you made good calls moving the basketball hoop and couches. For me, furniture rearranging helps tremendously mentally. When I was boxing up the figurines, frames and smaller items of the living room for my move, I didn’t FEEL like I was making progress. When we drove things little by little to the new place (15 min away), when I brought the coffee table to the new place, the living room FINALLY felt like it was being cleared out lol.
Ashe yes! I kept telling myself not to waste time rearranging because it was already a big job. My plan was to do it later but I’m glad I did it.
I hope you all are settled in after the move. It’s such a big job moving.
I wonder if you could wash those cushion covers in the washer then hang them up to dry. I think it might. Work
Totally agree! I wash my couch cushion covers all the time. Toss in some lysol laundry sanitizer to the washer too. I put them in the dryer for like 5 min tops on low then just drape whereever to completely dry. Toss back in dryer for couple of minutes if needed to remove wrinkles. Ta da!
I'm helping an elderly neighbor lady declutter her home. Her husband before his death, was a hoarder & bought multiples of everything. It definitely helps keep my own home in-check!
Bravo on being the best example of how to pace yourself!
You could put the small couch on the tv wall, move both recliners where the small couch is at with the side table in-between, then move the tv and stand under the stairs by the beam but tuck the stand under the stairs so the tv is flush with the stairs. Then move the blanket bench in the center to give you a coffee table look that also gives you blankets. Just a thought it will create a little lounge area and you can still have behind the recliners as the kids area.
Excellent ideas!! This idea for a fresh arrangement (plus add tables too) would really look so cozy!
@@teacatz3 Right! Very cozy! This is just in the mean time until she does the updates she wanted to do but thought I would share my thoughts as I am an interior designer so I can’t help but rearrange a room just like she started to do 😂 I am enjoying her videos and her fun personality her videos make me smile and laugh ❤️
My husbands mom kept all 5 of her children's toys. All the grandkids love to play with them!! It is so fun to see pictures of the different generations playing with the same toys!
Oh I love that Whitney ❤️❤️❤️
Get one of those bissel spot cleaners and clean the couch. It looks to be in good shape and I bet it would clean up well
I am working on paying off my last 4 credit cards. I have two more payments, then I will be down to 3. Other than that, on chemo and resting. I look forward to seeing your videos, they make me laugh. Your daughter Donna Jean, is so sweet to help you in some of them
The transformation is amazing! If you put the blanket chest in front of the long couch,it would be easier to grab a blanket (and put back? ha ha) plus it can serve as a coffee table and foot rest. Then there would be room for the Hello Kitty chair and Barbie boxes behind the love seat to eliminate the visual pink clutter, along with laying down the sticks and purple thing. I know that you’re not done yet,I just got so excited!😅🤣😂
Thank you Laura 🤗
I intentionally wanted that space clear because it’s where I like to do my workout videos. For me it’s always function first then what looks best ❤️
@@jodidunnmymessylife1847 that makes sense 😔🥰
You , Donna and hubby did an awesome job. Looks so good. You did a lot of decluttering. Pat yourself on the back. You deserve it.
Thank you so much Sherry ❤️
Hi Jodi awesome job! The room looks great. Always nice to see Donna Jean helping you out. I loved seeing Frankie too. It reminded me of my mom's cat her name was Baby. When ever I came over to my mom's house Baby knew the sound of my car and she'd run and hide. She was a very sweet cat. But I'm the one who groomed her and she hated being fussed with. When my mom passed Baby came to live with us. She was such a blessing to us. She never had any other cats to deal with at my mom's house. We had 10 cats at the time so it was a huge change for her. She was 12 years old at the time. Baby became my cuddle bug and she learned to tolerate the other cats. And I have pictures of her sleeping on me with the other cats snuggled up with her. She passed 4 years ago and we all miss her too.
Alice thank you for sharing about Baby ❤️
She sounds like such a sweetie! And I’m so glad she adjusted to all the changes.
When my grandparents passed I took 2 of their cats. Most would have considered them both feral. One of them found a hole in one of the box springs and hid there for a good 2 weeks 😂 but after lots of patience she grew to trust me and became one of the most lovable cats I have ever had ❤️
Wow!!! You did an amazing job transforming this space! I would bet that the girl's go down there more often too!!! Great Job Jodi!!!
Thank you Heather ❤️❤️
You are SO INSPIRING!! Thank you for showing us ‘normal’ people that it can be done little by little!
Awe thank you Rachel ❤️❤️❤️
Finally finished my basement. 3 weeks. I'm exhausted but am very proud of myself. If we had to move tomorrow, I can tell the moving company to move it all to new place. 30 years of memories, sons stuff and other things.
Tracy that is awesome!!! Congratulations 👏👏👏👏👏
We have decluttered and since may taken 4 truck loads and several car trunks loads to Goodwill and trash ! We have started putting new flooring in the laundry room! To match the other we put down in 2020 in kitchen, living room , dining room and front bathroom!
Wow that’s incredible Erma! Congratulations 👏👏👏
What a great transformation Jodi! Putting the basketball game with the dolls tucked under was genius. Looks so good and I know you are happy to go down there now. By home was totally decluttered after working on it for a year, but by daughter and her 4 boys have moved in for a bit and oh boy!
Thank you Jo 🤗
Oh yes extra people add extra clutter 😂 but I bet it’s great having them ❤️
Jodi that little drop leaf table is so cute! You should put it by a couch in your family. To cute to be in the basement!
I don't think I would get rid of those American Girl dolls and accessories like ever. My kids were majorly into Thomas and I STILL have a TON of Thomas trains, tracks, accessories, etc. They were expensive and have a lifetime guarantee. And I kept them all because I may have grandchildren one day too and want them for them. I also kept a big tote of legos that my kids played with a ton and they never go out of style so I kept them as well. And IF I was smarter, I would have kept the Barbies, Bratz and accessories too but didn't. Anyway, I know there's not room for everything but sometimes you just have to make room and do what is necessary to keep the things you want to keep. Awesome job Jodi on all that you did in this space. I also would keep that table top (may come in handy for something else) and also that basketball thing looks fun, like I'd be throwing balls around there if it were in my basement. It's nice to have fun things around and you know not too many years away EJ will be able to play with that too. I was so happy for you when you said last place in your home to do the first pass. Did you ever think you'd get this far so quickly? I know it probably doesn't seem as quick to you but I think it was quick for all that you've done. It seriously was a lot. I mean it wasn't just rooms, it was all you went through in each room like each drawer, cupboard, etc. And the emotional stuff you went through on this decluttering journey, holy moly, that in itself was enough to make it that much more difficult. It's one thing to be physically tired and sore but holy moly, the emotional stuff can push you beyond tired and sore without physically doing anything. When I watched your front yard makeover I will say that it looks gorgeous, but I was tired from just watching so I could only imagine how you felt. I know the outside work is physically draining for sure. I'd much rather work inside than out but I have and I know it's very hard work. Anyway, you've done amazing and love all that you've shown us thus far, the pink stuff, the decorating, getting your dishwasher, etc, etc. It's all been amazing and so awesome of you to take us along for the ride. I can honestly say that I can remember each and every video because each one has had something that I highly related to and has made me feel like I was right there with you, like going through all those pictures, helping your daughter in her home, filming your children and your grandson, and of course, everything with Gus, the couch, cleaning the windows he would look out all the time and the list goes on. And Jodi, I've laughed with you, cried with you, and felt exhausted with you. And apparently from the thousands of people who watch, you sure are not doing this alone. It's inspiration, motivation and definitely entertainment almost like a series that as a viewer you can't wait to see what's next, the ups, the downs, the twists, the turns, and of course, the smiles. So thanks for putting YOU into all this, and keeping it so real. I know I've said some of these things to you before but feel they are worth repeating. Oh, and by the way, I guess there was one scary part in a recent video - when that curtain rod fell. LOL, Jodi, if you could have seen me. I nearly jumped out of my chair. It scared the heck out of me. I never saw that coming and I think my heart may have skipped a beat or two. So you've definitely incorporated each and every feeling into your decluttering videos. I can testify to that! Can't wait, as always, to see what you do next! And so I don't comment for a while and here I am writing you a book! Enjoy the upcoming weekend. I think the humidity is going to decrease, at least it is supposed to here.
WOW!!! Great job!!!
It looks awesome! Great effort!
Congrats on the sponsored video!!!!🎊🎊🎊 Working hard this week getting my kids back to school. Cannot believe my son will be a senior!! As soon as school starts I am decluttering my 1st grader's room. It is a disaster 😜 love your videos!
Thank you Michelle 🤗🤗
Oh a senior! Quite the big deal. Your household sounds similar to mine. When Gracyn was a senior Viv was starting kindergarten 🥰
Great job you did!!
OMG I love how it turned out. You should clean up the chair and put it upstairs with the desk for Donna Jean.
You are doing an awesome job and I really love your channel.
Thank you ❤️
For the American doll things ~~ ask wonderful hubby if you all could make some shelves for the stuff :) so it can be used and then easily put away ?
Awesome job tackling the different areas 👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Looks so good!!!
Brilliant job, I love these transformations. Looking good. Xx🇬🇧
Wow, another big decluttering job done!! Looks great!😊
How awesome!! Great job!!
Thank you ❤️
I'm so excited for this! Been dying for good basement content 😂❤️ My mouth is currently on fire from my lunch lol
Catching up on your videos and had to smile that Donna was playing with her cash register. Fun fact, my boss’s grandfather invented the cash register along with many other patents and inventions 🥰❤️☀️
wow you did such an amazing job! I like how you moved the couch. Have a wonderful day.
It looks so good! I love how it turned out, so cozy!
Thank you so much ❤️
Wow!Looks great!
Congrats on doing your whole house!!! What an amazing accomplishment. It took you less than a year. Also, good call on keeping the American Girl stuff. I'm 38 and I still have my two AG dolls and all their accessories packed away neatly in their storage cases. They are timeless, and toys that are made to last. ❤️
Fantastic u have made it to your final space. I enjoy your videos so much. Love your enthusiasm. Great work and I would have kept the toys also. These r toys all kids seem to enjoy and u have got years of playtime n your future . Have a good rest of the week.
Thank you so much Norma ❤️
Looks great! I feel like relaxing on your sofa! Looks very inviting! Well done! 😊🌻💖

It looks very nice. I love the before and after shots.
Wow! You have so much motivation and energy.
Hi Lynn 🤗
Energy yes. Motivation no 😂
I have to force myself to do these.
Great job, Jodi!👍🥰💜
If you have a reciprocating saw, you can cut the furniture up to move it. We’ve done that with both a couch and a love seat. Congrats on decluttering your entire space! I’m just starting on mine and I’m sure it will take me at least a year. Yikes!
Looks fabulously fantastic!
Thank you Tara ❤️
Ahh, I’ve been waiting for this one! So glad you moved the furniture, I was itching for you to do it too! So great for the family to have an additional relaxing hang out space.
Me too Beekwa ❤️❤️
Love it I'm working on my bedroom. I kept telling you to move it to that corner. 😂😂😂 Basement will be amazing when done
Amazing! Well done again!

Was watching this with my 4 and half month granddaughter. She's trying to get the phone when Donna Jean was there with you . Liked how you moved the basketball game by the wall to give more space. Looks great Jodi & Donna. 🙂

I have my daughter (who’s 31)American Girl items in tubs too! And I labeled them. Once she has a garage those tubs will go to her house lol. She loved them like your girls.
Or stay here for my grandkids some day!!!
Yes! I just can’t part with them. My girls spent so many hours every week playing with them. Hopefully my granddaughter will love them ❤️
Jodi this room looks amazing!! Love the new layout of the furniture and also the cameos of Donna Jean! Your home is looking wonderful from all the hard work you have put into it. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us. 🥰

Jodi what a great family you have. I feel as if I've watched a comedy show and I'm always exhausted from laughing after watching you.😂 I look so forward to seeing you and that lovely daughter of yours thanks for a great video.

Great job, Jodi! And, as always, great inspiration! I am currently going through allllll of the DVD's my kids used to watch when they were little, keeping some and putting them in those cd/dvd cases and recycling the original cases. I am making a TON of space in the family room just by doing this. See you next week!
Oh that’s such a tedious task! But feels great when it’s done ❤️❤️
I so enjoy your videos Jodi, thanks for taking the time to share them, real life motivation.

Thank you Betty ❤️❤️
I am so stinking proud of you, Jodi!!!!! I have been with you through your entire journey and you have ROCKED it!!!!!
Cheryl thank you so much 🤗🤗🤗
You've just inspired me to do my last room too. In the past I've done it by emptying the whole room, and like you I always felt overwhelmed. I love how you work in zones. I can do that! Thank you Jodi 🤗
Kate yes! I hope it works for you as well as it works for me. I just couldn’t do it any other way ❤️
Hello Jodi! I'm a new subscriber from Nashville! I LOVE how you break these projects down into small chunks. It's so easy to be overwhelmed, not knowing where to start, so you don't start anything. I want to get it all done NOW. But look at you! Doing it a room at a time and now you've been through your whole house. Progress!!
Hi Cheryl 🤗
Yes so true! Not knowing where to start and it being overwhelming can prevent us starting. I totally understand the want it done now 😂
Ah, I can't believe this is the last room for a first pass through! I just love watching your videos each week. I am so proud of all of your hard work, you have done such an amazing job. This area looks like such a nice spot to relax in. Great work, Jodi!! I bet Donna Jean will love that desk. Has she been using the cricut?
All the hard work has been worth it. Your family can enjoy this space to relax and hang out in. I also declutter an area a bit at a time as I get overwhelmed too!
Thank you Rosemary ❤️
In our recent move we took apart a couch and love seat to get it down the stairs from the bonus room. That way we could move it ourselves and haul it to the dump.
Awesome Sandra ❤️
it's so great!. it is much better rearranged. right before you said you were moving the basketball goal, I said you should do that! it's great that all the toys are hidden but still easy to play with
