    The difference between the first two Diablo's and the third is that your character used to not matter. You were just following along the travelers trail of destruction as narrated from the perspective of his travel companion. You were constantly too late, and when you finally caught up with them you made a mistake and was scolded by Tyrael. These days you're the ultimate-super-ultra-mega-hero, destined to become stronger than Hell and Heaven combined, which completely removes the grittiness and bleakness from the story. Also they keep humanizing previously ethereal, ambiguous characters, demystifying the world.

      Can't disagree with this at all.
      I loved the sortof vague references to the Dark Wanderer all throughout the game and the fact that you're playing a wannabe who is going to get involved with the likes of possessed Tal Rasha, and the corrupted Zakarum, and the barbarians guarding Mount Arreat. Pretty much most of the people in town are like "You're gonna die out there, chump."
      Also, the pure torture that the warrior from D1 and Tal Rasha sign up for... so dark.
      D3 didn't have enough simple gravity. Everything was turned up to 11.

    • @HellqueenRoz
      @HellqueenRoz Před 2 lety +46

      The other side to it is that fighting evil clearly had a cost. Being a hero was actually legitimately hard and costly.
      The original trio from D1 all wound up either dead, corrupted into serving the evils they had once battled against, or both. And the Warrior himself not only fell, but actually became the vessel for the very evil he had helped to slay, thus furthering the malign goals of the Prime Evils.
      The Prime Evils weren't just a group of demon bosses for the player to take down in an epic boss battle: they were these menacing, terrifying entities that manipulated you into serving their ends. They preferred to work their evil from the shadows and manipulate people and events in their favour, but when forced to fight proved to be terrifying foes. And you never truly defeated them, at best, your actions were more of a holding action against the will of the Prime Evils. You could kill them, but their deaths were never permanent and it was only a matter of time before they returned.
      But, paradoxically, this made your characters feel all the more meaningful in some respects: you fight hard against a horrific supernatural evil, knowing full well that your own death is a possibility, but you do it because someone has to do it and the Prime Evils will rampage throughout the world unchecked otherwise.
      It made your hero feel *vulnerable* which was distinctly not a feeling in D3 where you just go around winning one epic battle after another and easily dispatching the Prime Evils.

    • @espcsg
      @espcsg Před 2 lety +17

      Very well put, alway feel like I was fighting a loosing battle. End of D1 - Warrior had to sacrifice himself but we all know how it'd turn out if you stuck the soulstone into your head. End of D2 - Baal roam free and it was all in his planning. End of D2 Exp - Destruction of the worldstone, after winning the fight against the Lord of Destruction. We may have won the battles but the Prime Evils seems to have always won the war against us. A never ending conflict between heaven and hell.

      I think you got it wrong. Baal clearly not the kind who fuck around. He is the lord of destruction. If it didn't explode, it burns. The one who fuck around would be Mephisto, being the lord of hatred, would always go for the long con, corrupting souls. Diablo is a mix between the 2.

    • @Da1337Man
      @Da1337Man Před 6 lety +51

      Actually i heard once that its actually Mephisto who tends to go with the short term plans, while Diablo as you may have noticed, always plans 5 steps ahead. The entire first game was you being played like a fiddle by Diablo himself. He never intended to keep King Leroic's younger son as his vessel, it was just a temporary body. That's why he lured you into the catacombs so he could corrupt you with the soulstone. His true end goal was to destroy/corrupt Heaven itself beyond saving, and he would have succeeded had the characters of D3 not been OP as hell. I think Baal is the mix between the two. He certainly seemed to be getting his jollies off from fucking shit up, but not even Tyrael could predict what his ultimate plan was until it was too late.

And the color . . in the original he was other-wordly, alien being, while in the remake it looks like an actor wearing over-the-top generic zombie costume . . All diablo prime evils needed a host inside Sanctuary as they become temporary souls while inside it. Not to mention High heavens and Trag'oul didn't want them in. So they had to find their way in through someone's soul to discreetly bypass protectors. Here are there respective list of their legendary hosts:
      Mephisto - Que-Hegan Sankekur or Great Patriarch Sankekur. Mephisto somehow managed to corrupt the Travincal councils and Sankekur himself even in complete captivity and used the councils to mafia the vote for the next Zakarum pope which eventually becomes Sankekur. Then he possesses Sankekur to have full control of Zakarum religion.
      Diablo - The hero of Diablo 1 series failed to do one thing after killing the manifested diablo that resulted from Lazarus' finished work. ( Lazarus was a Zakarumite priest that was sent by Mephisto to free his brother Diablo in tristram ). The hero failed to destroy the stone and instead kept it, hence the gradual possession of the hero.
      Baal - Prodigal mage named Tal'rasha was handpicked by Horadrim itself to pursue a breach of a powerful soul that entered Sanctuary, which was Baal. Baal fought with Trag'oul on its way inside which made him weak and wounded. Tal'rasha was Baal's captor but was forced to be locked with him in a prison cause Baal partially destroyed the stone that would lock Baal and selflessly used his own heart as a replacement for Baal's prison.

Here his legs are crablike, and other part of his body looks sort of amphibical with all that tentacles, so yeah, good job, Blizzard.

      its a great scene but deablo 3 is better over all .for 2 big reasons 1 the skill tree . even thow i really like the skill tree there is no way to reset the points and being that it takes almost a year to get a hero to 60 i dont think people will want to start new heros every few months because thay misplaced a point on the skill tree . the pvp itself . there is no way to stop someone from declaring war on you when thay get into the game and you cant stop them from gaurding your body after they beat you the only way to stop this is to play a locked game . if you needed a bonus reason the stash . in deablo 3 you have a shared stash between all your heros you have to make a game and jump between heros if that is possible to trade stuff or just sell it . seablo 2 is still a good game its just game play wise deablo 3 is buy miles better

      saur2244 In Diablo 2, you can save & quit and you'll get your gear back in the next game. Also you can reach end game in D2 in a single day if you want. But IMO the journey to the endgame is more enjoyable. Also, if you don't like people joining your game, you have the option to play private games. There is also the offline single player that doesn't exist in D3 which is great. And finally there is actual trading in Diablo 2.
      Diablo 3 was all about removing as many features and options as possible. It just sucks, it has no depth at all and everything you do before level 70 is pointless. It's all about Greater rifts. And to make any progress there, you need to use a stupid set which forces a playstyle on you. In D2, most builds were viable for end game.
      Latest versions of D2 allow for stats/skills reset (once per difficulty per character) or any amount of time if you gather the essences from act bosses.

      DarkSim64 all good points and at least thay are trying to fix the problems in the game but you still cant change your points at any time you want like you can in deablo 3 and in deablo 2 it is basically mandatory that if you dont want your hero to be attacked buy other players you HAVE TO play a private game . they fixed that in deablo 3 . they could have added that in deablo 2 and i dont know why they dont . its been over a year from the last time i played deablo 2 . it is true that they should have keped the auction house to trade stuff if they want . it will give players a chance to get cool stuff and support a game they like .also deablo 3 is still really dark . it may not be as dark but still really dart . i think you can adjust that in setting as well

They all moved on in one way or another from the company. No more grueling combat / 3 in-depth tech tree's giving build diversity in a strained gothic world rich with lore it all complimented itself soundtrack too. It's hard to tell what is going on most the time in full coop it becomes an arcade laser light show non stop in D3. What a letdown.

    • @wanghaifeng7998
      @wanghaifeng7998 Před 6 lety +12

      ShutoStriker All cinematics in Blizzard published games were made by Blizzard's in house cinematics team. If you listen to interviews with David Brevik, Condor or Blizzard North developed the game in conjunction with Blizzard and Blizzard provided them with the cinematics for their games. The ending for Diablo 1 was supposed to be a happy ending but the cinematics team made a very dark ending. When Condor received the cinematics they were shocked at how the cinematic went but later agreed that the darker ending suited the game very well and built Diablo 2's story around it. The studios were brothers in arms, both teams benefited heavily from the partnership. I think people should listen to interviews with David Brevik more to shine a light on what development actually was like. Diablo was supposed to be a turn based RPG but Blizzard wanted Condor to make it real time. If not for Blizzard's input and funding Diablo would not be the same.

    1:07 : Maybe the most clever move in term of strategy !
    Send an emissary to ask the ennemies to go away and at the same time, prepare the bridge to help them to invade your own city.

    Everyone! Listen to Baal's laughter.. It's almost exactly the same laugh as Joker uses after he kills Murray in the "Joker" movie. Compare them together :D
