How To Tie The Plaid Knot

Pipers and Drum Majors in Number 1 Dress uniform have difficulty attaching the plaid properly to their uniform. This video illustrates a proper method of wearing the plaid and how to tie the knot. This presentation was part of the Drum Major workshop presented by P/M Alasdair Gillies and D/M Kevin MacHeffner Conquest at 2010 Winter Storm in Kansas City.

This is a modern tieing of a plaid. Historically plaids were tied in several different ways.

In the old days of the Scottish regiments, the plaids did not have the pleats sewn in, so the wearer had to have a partner, and together they would fold the pleats each time it was to be worn.
