mane776 is she really underrated? I remember when people use to dog her voice. Karyn doesn’t have star power. She’s a beautiful woman but she never had any appeal to her. There’s no personality to her. She was always gonna be stuck behind the better female artists of her day.

I must admit that while the Heavy Metal craze was going on causing me to attempt suicide at one point in that year 1989, singers like Karyn White managed to talk me out of it through song.

Alway been a big fan, love me some Karyn White, looks like they dropped the ball on the awards show, they never do our classic divas right! Would have been a great time to show the world that Karyn was back and better than ever! Btw, you said Karyn Whites “ Make Them Do Right” album wasn’t a big success , but it was in my eyes, I played it a lot and still play it to this day! It was my favorite album of the year it was released.

2014: My uncle and his girlfriend took me out to eat in Birmingham, Alabama... in the white part of town. I can't remember the name of the spot but it's like a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. type place. While we pulled into the parking lot, I told her that she looks like Karyn White. I told her that I'm seeing Karyn's debut album cover in my mind. She said, "I receive it. I like her." but he kept arguing that she doesn't look like Karyn. As we walked into the restaurant, they were playing country music. After we were seated, I Googled Karyn's first album cover to prove my point. Suddenly, the song stopped and Karyn White's "Secret Rendezvous" came on. I just looked at them and said, "GOD has spoken!"

No. She married Terry Lewis and felt obligated to let her new hubby produce her second album. But Babyface was just the better writer.
Cellmate1 Yup, that's somewhat true.. I remember it being said that L.A, Babyface, and others backed away from her because she got married to a older famous producer sooo young. It overshadowed her career. She was looked at as someone's wife and a soon to be mom. Second & third album didn't do as well as the first (First album was done with mainly Babyface). Sometimes mixing business with pleasure isn't a good idea. Everybody can't be Ashford & Simpson!
How is that her down fall? Even with LA and Babyface her debut album only went double platinum. That says a lot. Even if she worked with him on other albums she still would not have been super successful. Karyn nevee had any star power.
Mirium Butterfly this is not even true. While LA and Babyface didn’t want to work with her neither did Jam and Lewis. Being Terry’s wife didn’t overshadow her at all. And for thr record while he was older he was still in his 30’s. So that didn’t make much of a difference. Karyn just didn’t have what it took to propel her career forward. She got overshadow by better female artists. I will admit that the songs by Jam and Lewis were some of their worst work. However, I don’t blame them. I blame the artist and Warner Bros.

I don’t understand why anyone would be mad. Karyn can be unmotivated at times. Soul Train wanted to do a LaDace tribute before this and asked her to do it. She said yes then turned atound at the last minute and said no. Luckily the tribute was scrapped. But that tells Babyface all he needs to know about you. Karyn hasn’ t sung Superwoman in damn near 20 years so how was she just expected to show up and sing then.

It’s funny reading all these comments talking about how good she looks. That’s really all there is to her. Karyn is a beautiful woman but that’s it. That’s why her career didn’t last. She had/has 0 star power. There was never any style to her. She lacked a true personality. That was never going to be enough to sustain a career. I don’t also don’t get why people feel sorry for her. This woman gave up her career and ran hid never to be seen from again until 17 years later.

Karyn White & her husband may have been in love, but that didn't mean they needed to be in the studio trying to make songs..especially if the chemistry wasn't there.. She even said back then that she enjoyed working with Babyface better than working with her own husband.
